This year we finally tried a large CoolCabana. It was AMAZING. VERY stable in wind that knocked down all the stretchy canopies around us as well as blowing over a few umbrellas. The CoolCabana flapped and shook in the wind but stayed in place. The large version is an 8ft square shaped umbrella with cloth legs that you fill with sand and that keeps them in place. It works great and it provides 64 sq ft of shade! Thatâs 66% more shade than a commercial umbrella at about 40 sq ft. Almost 2 umbrellas worth of shade. The CoolCabana packs smaller and lighter than a commercial umbrella and takes only a minute longer to set up or take down. Itâs also worth noting that a commercial umbrella and a CoolCabana are essentially the same cost. My brother-in-law liked it so much he ... MoreThis year we finally tried a large CoolCabana. My brother-in-law liked it so much he ordered one from the beach so heâd have it when he got home.My crew is very sun sensitive, and we have always relied on umbrellas (or other) for beach shade. Weâve been going to the beach for 60+ years. My father was devoted to commercial grade canvas umbrellas. The commercial grade canvas umbrella is a 7.5 ft octagon (almost 40 sq ft of shade). These umbrellas are very good even in gusty heavy winds. To accommodate our crew we need to set up 4 or 5 in a row.We have tried other umbrellas (large Patio tilting (very heavy), lighter weight retail style (very weak), etc.) and none compare to the commercial item.We have tried the stretchy canopy thing but gave up after a two seasons because it wasn't good in the wind (these donât work well in wind and itâs always windy on the beach. I spent half my time adjusting and resetting it whenever the wind came up or changed direction)We have tried the framed 10 ft party tent. We gave up on this after one season because of the weight and setup (These are very heavy, difficult for one person to set up and take down, not great in heavier wind)We have tried fiberglass dome tent style things for little kids (These work okay but they are small and have sides and usually a bottom that detract from the beach experience). Only babies and toddlers used it.We did NOT try, but sat next to, a few of the free flying arched shades. These are TERRIBLE! They make a constant flapping noise, and they fail whenever the wind changes direction. They also flap in the users faces whenever the wind dies down a bit. And if the wind is from land and not sea then the flapping part faces the ocean and constantly obstructs your view as well as hits you in the face. You need to always be facing out from the front of the arch, so if the wind is not directly from the sea, then you are pointed in an odd direction.Do yourself a favor and get a CoolCabana. I promise you will not be sorry.

Our family visited Destin/Miramar Beach this past week and our Cool Cabana tent was wonderful. Set up was super easy. I even took the tent down by myself with no issues. We bought the large size and it provided enough shade for 3-4 adults and my 2 young children. Filling the pockets with sand was so easy and we felt confident that our tent would not âfly awayâ in winds. It was easy to carry. We even saw other Cool Cabanas on the beach near us. Many others had regular canopy tents that required more in depth setup but ours was easy to set up in 2-3 minutes. We would highly recommend!

This Cabana was easy to set up and produced a lot of shade. Others on the beach were holding their umbrellas and some cheaper cabanas, but our stood firm. I did learn to fill each leg pocket with sand before opening the other arm of the umbrella. it makes it easier on a windy day. especially if you are on your own. So much faster and easier to set up with my big beach umbrella. I always tied ropes to the arms and filled the end of the rope with bags of sand to keep the umbrella from flying away. Life is now good at the beach on a hot and sunny day.

Coming from having a big beach umbrella, this is a huge upgrade for our family (2 adults and 2 kids). The umbrella was ok for a while but we needed more space to fit in.The Cabana meets those needs and then some more:- It folds into a relatively small package- Unpacks into a very large Cabana with enough space for 6 people and a few beach items- Setup is very easy, you can get it ready by yourself in 5 minutes. If someone else is helping then in 2 or 3 minutes.- Taking it down and back into the bag is just as easy- You can feel the materials are high-quality- Resist high speed winds (haven't tested this one but it should be okay)- It looks really good and distinctive at the beachWe've only used it a couple of times and so far,'it's been great! Well, the cabana is extremely easy to set up, even for a single person...as long as there isn't any wind that is. We used the cabana several times while at the beach recently, and overall it was fantastic. However, on one particularly windy day, with about a 10mph constant wind and occasional gusts to 15mph, the cabana didn't seem to hold up. In fact, we ended up taking it down to avoid damaging it and while taking it down we noticed the lower spike bar was now slightly bent! (See attached photos.) I watched a few more cabana YouTube videos to make sure I was setting it up correctly and got a few more techniques to try the next time we go if it gets windy. Ironically, our single umbrella seemed to do just fine. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to the beach!
We purchased a cool cabanas 3 years ago. We spend 2 weeks every year on the OBX where shade is a requirement. We had an LL Bean beach shelter that we have had for years, setting that up was a series of steps, threading poles through material and tying everything down. It was well made but didn't provide the square footage I needed for my family. The cabana can be set up in less than 5 minutes, it handles the breezes at the beach and actually was handling the gusts with out difficulty. There are pockets in every corner to hold everything you want out of the sand. The best thing is, it looks great, cleans easily, it's compact and has a shoulder strap to make it easy to carry. We liked our first one so much we bought a second.
I rarely leave product reviews, but after using our new CoolCabana today I felt compelled to write this. Absolutely amazing product that works exactly as described. Couldnât have been easier to set up or take down and worked faultlessly in light to moderate wind. Our only disappointment is that we didnât buy one earlier! The one tip Iâd mention more is to ensure one corner of the sand spike points to the water when setting it up. That way the cabana will be aligned with the beach and parallel to the water. And one final revenue suggestion: sell a branded plastic sand scoop. Buying one from a discount store was $2 well spent!
We liked the cabana and the shade it provided, but cant really recommend since it didnt hold up to what seems like pretty "common" wind conditions at the beach. (15 mph?) Our sand stake bent on the 3rd day of use and while the company responded well and sent us another one, we spent the rest of the time worrying that, as the winds got strong on any given afternoon, we were going to have another incident. We took the cabana down on the hint of a stronger wind. Just not a very relaxing way to enjoy the beach. (Note that the cabana does feel well constructed, and the other parts held up well, so maybe just fluke?)
This thing is truly impressive. It's really simple to set up, really stable, and worth the money! It makes you feel like you're in a cozy tent even though it's really just a super sturdy and stable umbrella. Two minor issues I saw: 1) It was not immediately apparent how the poles all stayed together or how you were supposed to use the spike pole. I had no idea instructions were actually sewn onto the inside of the carry bag until after I figured it out, and I only figured it out after watching a YouTuber demonstrate the setup. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive ... MoreThis thing is truly impressive. I had no idea instructions were actually sewn onto the inside of the carry bag until after I figured it out, and I only figured it out after watching a YouTuber demonstrate the setup. The company's official video demonstration setup is not helpful because it doesn't show you that you're supposed to drive the spike pole into the sand FIRST, then use a second pole to slide over the spike pole and use it as a hammer to drive the spike deeper. The fact that it came with two regular poles and a spike pole and none of them clipped securely into each other left me scratching my head. I reached out to customer service and they were completely unhelpful, but by the time they replied, I had found that one helpful YouTube video. Some kind of indication written on the poles themselves, like a sticker with an IKEA-style figure demonstrating the hammering action would've been really helpful. 2) Unless the beach is more or less totally flat, 1-2 corners will not touch the ground. I had two dangling (weighed down with sand) because the small beach I was on had a slope that was steeper than most large beaches. I imagine on windy days, this might cause some instability, but it didn't cause any issues for me because I was on a quiet little beach in a bay area. I wonder if there is a way to make the sand pouches in each corner adjustable by a few inches to accommodate slopes?
So our coolcabana 5 made it maiden trip to Surfside Beach SC. Previously we have owned different styles of umbrellas as well as most recently a four pole cabana that is made from that tee shirt material. What we found is that the four pole style had its pluses but what you had to do was to keep adjusting th3 poles based on the wind. If the wind got underneath it it would pull the poles out of the sand and then the side would collapse. With the Cabana 5 there are no side poles just a center pole. You need just to be concerned with strong wind which will put pressure on the center pole potentially bending it. Keep in mind that the sides with sand should remain straight up and down and not out at an angle. This will help with the stability.
