Awful installation process

Completely terrible experience with this product. I would highly recomend a different brand if this is what they consider to be installation instructions.

Had to download the proprietary app to get the unit to function. I installed it primarily to boost signal to WiFi equipped Samsung Smart TV. Signal strength did not improve. In fact, this unit made connectivity next to impossible with the TV. Kept disconnecting. I returned the product after 7 days of disappointment. These units have 'one job to do.' When they fail to do so, they fail spectacularly. Can't recommend.

Pairing this to my router was fairly trivial, but it all went downhill from there... The set-up app is frustrating to use and looks like it was highly neglected for something that is necessary for setting up the device. The app is confusing to use, riddled with spelling errors and doesn't even do what it was supposed to do! I thought I was setting up a separate 5GHz network but it never showed up in the list of networks. Finally, the worst part of the product is that it doesn't even work! It doesn't look like the model was defective in any way, but when I try to connect up to the extender, my speeds drop to 1/10th of what they were when I connected to the router directly. I even tried placing the router, extender, and connected device in the same room and I still ... MorePairing this to my router was fairly trivial, but it all went downhill from there... Don't get this extender.. and here is why
13 June 2018

We purchased this extender because one room in our house doesn't get the best signal and when we are streaming Netflix in that room the connections buffers the Netflix stream. So we went to purchase a wifi extender to help with this. It did not. First of all the extender did not extend the current wifi connection ("Home") in the room. When configuring the connection we actually has to set up a new wifi signal ("Home-EXT") and that signal is worse. Its a dual band, so it makes a second connection ("EXT"), but you think it would at least be at par or better than the original connection. Its not. We tested this with a wifi connection tester. Results are below. RESULTS (tested in same room, seconds apart). Original Connection- "Home" - 13.6 Mbps (full bars) Dlink ... MoreWe purchased this extender because one room in our house doesn't get the best signal and when we are streaming Netflix in that room the connections buffers the Netflix stream. But the extender is weaker than our original connection "Home". So whats the point of having this Dlink product if the connection is worse than the original connection in the room.... there is none. We are returning the D-link extender. Disclaimer - We tested the Dlink in multiple room, multiple locations, and on multiple days.. results are the same. It is weaker in every room than the original connection.

Ethernet helps a lot
12 January 2020

I've had this wifi extender in my room for a few months now. Its down in the basement so once I connected the extender upstairs as instructed, then plugged it in downstairs next to my desk it worked perfectly.I wouldn't recommend using it wireless. For me since I use a desktop primarily and game on it, it keeps my latency low with the Ethernet connection to the extender. In general if you want to speed up and maintain one device's connection I would recommend this product + an Ethernet (even my cable is from a thrift store and it works great haha) And quick FYI - Don't connect to the wireless internet if you're using the Ethernet on the extender... it automatically connects when its plugged it :)

Improves wifi signal strength when not many interference from nearby devices
2 December 2020

I was new to the wifi range extender game, so here is my advice. After using the Dlink range extender for four months, I ended up going with 100ft ethernet cables connecting my devices to my modem located 60ft away in my apartment. With the 100ft ethernet cables, internet connection is more stable and reliable compared to using a range extender.I used the dlink range extender every day for four months in the part of my apartment located about 60ft away from my modem. I achieved 50% strength to 80%-90% but not full bar strength indicated on the signal strength indicator bar. Into the fourth month of use, I began working full-time from home and had to rely more on my range extender. Into the fourth month of use, I began working full-time from home and had to rely more on my range extender. My internet work calls often dropped during my work hours (8:30am to 5:00pm) and when having zoom calls with family and friends in the evenings between 6:30pm to 8:00pm.I discovered later that nearby devices (including when the microwave is heating up food) can interfere with wifi signal strength. Wifi signal strength was strongest when not many people are heavily using their internet—in the early mornings (before 8:00am), late evenings (after 9:00pm), and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).I compared internet speed tests between dlink range extender (7.4 download speed, 3.5 upload speed) versus ethernet cables (28.9 download speed, 6.7 upload speed). In conclusion, the dlink range extender is good for light web browsing and checking emails. For stable and reliable internet call connections, connect your devices to your modem via ethernet cables instead. I currently connect my ipad pro (using Belkin Ethernet + Power Adapter with Lightning Connector) and laptop to my modem using 100ft ethernet cables.

So Bad. Do Not Buy
9 February 2020

Worked okay for a few months, now its super slow and is never really connected to internet when it’s only a few feet away (small apartment) once i switched the connection to a different router. Also, i tried to pull it out of the outlet to change locations and the WHOLE Front part came off exposing the internal compartments...it still works but you can tell its cheaply made. Do not purchase, wish i could return but its out of warranty now, never buying from DLINK ever again. Their customer service was not helpful in any way shape or form.

This thing sucks
4 October 2021

I was looking at the reviews for this thing, and of course best buy hid all the negative ones. When I bought it, it had inconsistent speeds and would lag every now and then, but 4 months later, it would just not work at all. I would do everything I could to get it to work but it just won't. It only works for a little bit before it just shuts off for no reason. If your going to buy a range extender don't get this one, just get a more expensive one.

Very disappointed with Dlink devices
7 September 2020

Bought this in April and worked well for 1 month. Now I can't get speeds over 60mbps on 5ghz and I have 400mbps from the ISP and the device gets really hot. Can't return it back to BestBuy after 30 days so contacted manufacturer. They exchanged the device and the now the replacement device is doing the same thing. Contacted them a 2nd time and they are giving me the run around and then never heard from them again. This time never again with D-Link products!

Works well, easy to setup
16 January 2023

Very easy setup. Added this as a second extension of my wi-fi. It installed nicely with a slightly different connection name. The extender came up quickly and seems to have very good coverage and a strong signal (it connects from the second floor to the first floor primary router).
