Tongue on my right boot was crooked, leaving part of my leg exposed at the top and makes it uncomfortable to lace all the way up. The boot looks great and holds up well for an all around boot. I’ve used it for hiking, riding motorcycles, and as a casual. The tongues themselves are a little narrow and the top eyelet could be moved down. The tongue defect drives me crazy though. Would have returned but i was heading on a trip and needed them. Hopefully I can rate the next pair at 4 or 5 stars.

After the pandemic Danner quality has been awful. The eye hooks that you lace up fell off. The glue and stitching was trash. One boot fits great, but obviously when they stitch opposite boot they don’t reverse engineer so it doesn’t reciprocate fit, it hurts to break in and never fully breaks in like the opposite one. For $250 you’d think you’d get two separately, correctly stitched boots. Clearly they only used 1 machine and don’t understand the importance of stitching opposing feet so they reciprocate, break in and seat properly. No more Danner for me.

I really like this boot. Break in was quick and painless. After a couple of weeks they feel great. Sizing is generous. I have bunions and usually have to order wide sizes but in these the standard D width fits great. They’re also a unique and cool style.The only gripe is about the tongue. I’d read reviews complaining about this but dismissed them as folks who couldn’t figure out how to use the tongue slits or tie their boots properly. Nope. The slits in the tongue are useless as they don’t line up with where the laces cross. Tying the laces tight enough to hold the tinge in place would make them too tight to wear comfortably. The tongue flops to the side no matter what you do. It’s not enough to get rid of the boots but it’s enough that I don’t think I’d buy ... MoreI really like this boot. It is challenging to find well made boots for gardening, where the soles don’t carry mud back to the porch. Furthermore it has been impossible to find any with a full gusset tongue so soil is excluded. Therefore I again purchased this marginal boot, my second pair, so I could get the first pair fixed. The brass eyelets wore thru and became razor sharp, and I had Vibrum Athlete soles added, a design that doesn’t carry mud. “Good enough “ is all I can say, but better than anything else in I could find, at any price.

However the tongue doesn’t seem to be long enough and isn’t sewn in high enough which makes the tongue always migrate to one side of the boot leaving my socks exposed. After four weeks of wear the soles began to separate and I returned them under warranty. Danner again gladly replaced and shipped me another pair. The second pair of Bull Run boots had the same issue with the tongue and a similar break in time and after a 4-5 weeks one of the upper lace hooks popped off (again, not while tying, lacing or snugging them up. I was simply wearing them). I continued wearing the boots for another few weeks with the lace hook missing until I had time to drive to the factory store and explain that I would like a refund, not exchange because I no longer want to continue to exchange for boots that aren’t made with quality. Danner suggested that I was pulling the laces too tight when tying the boots and that if I wasn’t satisfied with the bull run boots I could try a higher end boot like the Power Foreman, Quarry, or their version of smokejumper boot and pay the difference. I was not willing to get into the $300-$400 price range with Danner because the quality didn’t look much better than the Bull Run at $190 and I already own a pair of whites and Hoffman's Boots. So, I left that day with a gift card because they didn’t have any Bull Run boots to exchange in my size and had to later drive to another danner store to pick up the boots, which after getting home and wearing I discovered had a large fold inside of the toe cap. I decided to wear the boots anyway after being frustrated with returns and exchanges but was forced to again return to a danner store after the toe cap cracked and separated from the leather after two days of wear. Another trip to the danner store to again ask for a refund, not return. Danner again would not refund my money but gladly issued me and exchange and suggested again that I try a higher end boot that was suited for work (you will find the Bull Run boot on display in their work boot section in stores and online). I left that day with another pair of Bull Run Boots only to return home to find that the right boot has no plastic toe cap at all! Another trip to the danner store today to ask for a refund, not exchange....same story. Danner did not have an exchange in my size but offered to ship me a pair when they are available next week after refusing to make another trip to the Danner store. How many times will Danner exchange defective boots and how can it be worth it for them? Danner has great customer service and return policies if you’re willing to stay with them as a costumer and try their entire boot line but their quality and designs are low and flawed. Please consider the time, energy, and money it will cost you to receive warranty exchanges. Please do your research when buying boots and buy truly American made boots (made in America with American materials) if you can. Thank you for taking the time to read.
I am a big fan of Danner after my past purchase of logger 917, vibram console and gtx, super comfortable. I went with the same sizing of logger for bullrun, but it came at least one size larger. I also have boots of same sizing from other brands but none of them feels as large. The boot is one thumb longer than my other boots. It does not wrap my ankle, and is as loose as a rain boot, I can put my palm in it. The laces don't tie up, and is too thin for the hole. It keeps getting loose even I put on my wool boot socks. I like the design, but it needs some serious reconstruction.
The boot fit is great, however it feels like you are walking barefoot across the ground! I had to buy Dr. Scholls inserts to add comfort. Something you shouldn’t have to do when buying a $200+ boot. Danner needs to install better quality insoles. I don’t understand why they don’t!!?? For $200 it will be the last pair I buy. I’ll stick with Thoroughgoods for better overall comfort and durability.
The toe box on the cristy will collapse onto your big toe while these are breaking in and rub a blister. A bandage over the rubbed area will prevent further blistering while the break in gets finished. After a week these are as comfortable as my 6" Bull Run Moc Toe I've had for years. The laces are noticeably thinner than the Danner replacement laces, but work well to start. I love these boots and the notes above qualify as nitpicking in my book.
This was my first pair of Bull Runs after having previously wearing Moc Toes. These have been great! Typically spend 12 hr days in my boots and these have been extremely comfortable. Didn't seem to take any time to break in and of course have held up great. One word of caution these ran a half size larger than size I always wear. Danner boots are at a premium price but very worth it due to the comfort, quality, style, and durability.
