Some are lucky and pass the strands, but it is typically a death sentence if the floss isn't surgically removed. I don't want to test fate by experimenting with THIS floss, but I imagine being easier to break AND break down might make this slightly less dangerous. After having lost a cat to the dangers of floss in the past, this stuff definitely soothes numerous parts of my soul.

At first I thought the floss was going to be too thin and break easily, according to other reviews. But it's actually pretty sturdy and dependable. It's a good thickness (like other known-brand dental floss) - it's not too thin and it hasn't broke in the past 3 weeks I've been using it. The only part that I wasn't fully aware of before purchase is that these are made out of silk (which was bad research on my end) - and I would like more information about how the silk is harvested. There are many ways to obtain silk ethically and without boiling silk worms alive. Given this company's lack of information, I would assume the silk is not obtained ethically. This is important for me as a consumer and would not purchase this again, unless there's more transparency.

was previously using a clean brand of floss, but it came in a plastic container, which was always getting thrown out. I saw a video about this floss stating that it was thicker than some other brands, and that it was mint flavored. These were my favorite two qualities of my regular brand. This was thinner than that floss, but thicker than regular floss. One thing that takes some getting used to is the fabric is wrapped around itself in a circular direction, which feels odd in the mouth at first. I actually found that it seemed to clean a bit better. The floss did fray a little in one spot, but never broke. It doesn't have nearly as much wax as what is on most floss at the stores. It's more like cloth floss with a lighter coat of wax. This is an eco-friendly swap that I will be sticking with from now on. I also feel that the price of this floss is what I would pay for my clean brand of floss that comes in a plastic container, so this is a no-brainer for me.

I very much like the idea of this product and appreciate that is supposed to be backyard compostable. Haven't given it enough time to say if that is accurate. The floss is nice an doesn't tear up my gums too much, but my teeth are too tight for it to be truly useful. I have been using the back and forth, pull the floss all the way through and not up and out method since I was young because I've always had tight teeth. The floss shreds on every use. Do not recommend for anyone with tight teeth. I'm using more floss now than I did before because it shreds. Great environmentally speaking, but won't be great for my budget at the rate I'm using it. Bummer.
I tried this after being pleasantly surprised by Package Free's branded silk dental floss. In comparison, Dental Lace's floss is thinner which I normally like for my teeth. But it breaks during every single session I use It compared to nylon, teflon, or any other floss I've used. It looks like it's comprised of multiple threads and I can't tell that it's waxed unlike the Package Free brand. The container is cute and being glass is more durable than Package Free's paper container. But the cap screws off in the same direction as the cutter so it unscrews after cutting and then I need to rethread the silk -- who designed this?Perhaps there is a higher learning curve with this thread being extra delicate, but given that it already costs more than plastic-derived ... MoreI tried this after being pleasantly surprised by Package Free's branded silk dental floss. The first time I ordered dental lace, I ordered a case and refills. The first lace I used was disappointing. I couldn't floss all my teeth with one piece as it kept breaking. I had this problem with the whole spool. The second spool worked great and so I ordered more. With this order, one of the spools ravels but does not break all the way. The second one I have seems to work better. Not sure I will be going this route again for my floss needs
I'm really happy with this because now I don't have to use plastic cases of floss ever again. It comes with way more floss than a usual case and it works just as well despite being made differently. A lot of reviews I read before buying said that if you have teeth really close together, the floss will break. Some of my teeth are really close but the floss never breaks. Sometimes it takes more force to get it between those teeth, but it still doesn't break. Love this and would recommend!
The floss works fine, but it came wrapped in compostable bioplastic (PLA). I don't have a composting facility near me so there's not much i can do with this piece of plastic besides throw it in the trash. In landfills, bioplastics are deprived of the conditions needed to decompose & can release significant levels of methane, which has ~30x the warming power of CO2. The necessary conditions for decomposition of PLA are not met in the natural environment, so if bioplastics end up in the environment, they have the same lifespan as oil-based plastics. Basically, PLA plastic is just a great form of greenwashing, especially when you don't live near an industrial composting site. I should've realized from the description that this would come in PLA, but with a store called ... MoreThe floss works fine, but it came wrapped in compostable bioplastic (PLA). Plus the plastic wrapping was unnecessary packaging.
I purchased these for my husband and I really wanting them to work. I read the reviews about how easily the string breaks and was committed to flossing gently. My floss did break, but it wasn't a big deal.Until the weight of the spool of floss was too much and it broke the the string of floss while it was on the container. Not a big deal until I went to use it again, finding the floss had broken off inside the spool. Even using tweezers, I was unable to ever find the end of the string. I tried quite a few things. In the end, the brand new spool of floss is basically unusable. And while I admire what the brand is trying to do, having to buy new spools of floss three uses in seems like a waste of money, product, and in emissions to ship it.
The floss is ok--no glide to speak of and breaks easily, but there is bound to be some trade-off with sustainable floss and I like that I can compost this. However, the case is extremely fragile. Drop this on the counter and it will shatter into a million tiny fragments. I get that their hands are somewhat tied if they're going to avoid using plastic, but this is made from extremely thin glass. I'm tired of finding tiny shards in the corners of my bathroom. I wouldn't trust this not to break during travel either.
