I received a set of these with my last order of Feather Black (thanks guys!) and tried the Derbys out on my vintage open comb and vintage butterfly razors. Each blade was used 3 times before retiring and with 5 in a pack, it allowed me 2 weeks with this pack leaving 1 last blade for a final run in the butterfly as it seemed to be a better match for these blades.Soap used was Williams Mug and skin prep was a scrubbing with Ivory bar soap during a hot shower which immediately preceded the shave. With the open comb, on day one, I felt definite tugging or even yanking on the whiskers. This settled out on shaves 2 and 3 on a blade and did not happen at all with the butterfly. The second blade in both razors confirmed the initial impressions - definitely more tugging ... MoreI received a set of these with my last order of Feather Black (thanks guys!) and tried the Derbys out on my vintage open comb and vintage butterfly razors. The second blade in both razors confirmed the initial impressions - definitely more tugging on the whiskers with the open comb on the first use.Overall on all days with both razors I got a smooth shave after a down stroke followed by an up. The third go round in the open comb with the last blade confirmed the tugging on day one with a better shave on days two and three. The open comb is an old school aggressive razor and really revealed the nature of the Derby blades. However the next morning after each shave, I felt heavier than usual stubble. Now, usually this means a closer shave for that day, but each morning I awoke with the same experience of heavier than usual stubble. I suspect that if I was a younger man with a beard not quite so grey I would be looking at a second shave before going out for the evening.Overall I would say that these are good blade - nothing exceptional, and certainly better than some. For the price - which is quite good - if I did not already have a good Merkur travel setup I would be looking at these blades as a "once and toss" travel blade but such is not the case for me.

I see a lot of great reviews for this blade and the last 2 a bit more critical. Every face is different. You may have heavy bearded face that requires the most expensive product out there. You may have thin sensitive skin that cuts easily, or thick tough skin. Your face may be round and full (easy to shave) or you may have hollows in your face (not so easy). You may be a little newer like me (a couple of months now) to using DE razors and still scraping away a little to much, but learning not to. No product will be perfect for everyone. At my relative newness to DE shaving and somewhat sensitive skin, and some hollows in my face, I found Feather blades way too sharp. I cut myself too much, but I may have better skills with them 6 months from now. Astras were much ... MoreI see a lot of great reviews for this blade and the last 2 a bit more critical. I cut myself too much, but I may have better skills with them 6 months from now. Astras were much better but I find I get the least irritating and fewest cuts from the Derbys with my Edwin Jagger razor. With my standard Merkur (travel version but same head), I find the Derby and Astra equally good. With the E Jagger, I get the least irritation from the Derbys. Surprisingly, I get the best shaves on days 4, 5 and 6. I get shockingly close and smooth results with 2 passes (a bit more under the nose) that I cannot achieve with the other brands without cutting my face up or getting razor burn. I think these are very good blades for beginners because they are more forgiving for my lack of skills. A beginner will scrub too much and not have mastered the best angles and pressure. Someone commented that the quality of manufacturing has gone down. I haven't used whatever the old version was, if it really is an old version as opposed to simply different packaging (it's probably very expensive to re-tool a factory so I wonder if the suggestion is true), but every Derby blade I have used so far has been consistent.

I'm a daily shaver, heavy stiff beard. In my cabinet I have and use the following blades in a pair of Parker handles and one Merkur: Derby, Astra, Gillette Silver Blue, Pol Silver, Bic, Feather, Vidyut Super-Max, Lord, Personna. My baby-faced buddy and I set that list of blades best (Derby) to worst (Personna - OMG...) after discussing all these blades over lunch one day; we've both used all these blades for several months. I can't believe these Derby's are 15 cents apiece when you buy 100! I can EASILY get 4-5 shaves out of these without drag and nicks (respect to the reviewer that got the nicks, but that hasn't been my experience), and the last shave is darn near as good as the first. The Derby doesn't drag like the Astra's after a couple shaves. Quit looking and buy 100 of these, my local British import store in Northern Calif. had a 5-pk of these for $3.50 - - that'll teach me not to buy from WCS! I've bought straight razors and all my stuff from these guys (and I have A LOT of stuff!) and they've never let me down. Out of all my orders - 1 bottle of after shave busted at the neck, replaced no problems no grief with one phone call. WCS rocks, their products rock, and the service rocks! THIS is how it's done.

For my beard, this Razor Blade works great! I have medium to thick beard so I change the blade out twice a week. This way I always have a sharp blade. The price is very moderate so I don't worry about waiting until the blade starts to pull at my beard. The quality control on this blade is very consistent. I have run across a few blades that I replaced early, but that happens with most any brand. I purchase the Derby Extra blades in the 100 count box so I get a bit more than a year's supply. This blade may not be for everyone, but it works great for me!
These blades are very smooth and sharp. With that being said. They worked great for a day or two growth. I had no irritation with them. I would imagine if you have sensitive skin or a sun burn. These blades would work great. Now if you got three or more days of heavy growth. I'd use a more aggressive blade for it. I made about one an a half passes on my head. I had to stop and switch out for an astra green. The derby blade was pulling the hair vs cutting. So I'd give it five stars for light growth and three for heavy. I would recommend it if you have sensitive skin or shave every couple of days. It's a very quality product and blades are package well. If you have thicker hair or go longer in between shaves. I have used Derby blades in the past. I purchased them in Africa when I ran out of cartridge blades, normally used when I travel. I had a safety razor back up in my luggage. Derby’s are not very well made, and tend to have residual micro-burrs from not being finished well at the factory. Every time I used one, I nicked myself, even though I have used both straight and safety razors for decades and have mastered the techniques for both. I used up an entire styptic pencil. Although they widely available world-wide, I would not recommend them as a purchase. There are better blades out there, such as Doric, Personna, Feather, Gillette, etc. The price point is low for a reason.
Blades seem ok. Well packed. First time using this brand. Still getting used to them. So far they dont seem as sharp as the ones i used before. Takes a couple more passes but still ends up with a close shave.
After trying the Feather double edge razor blades, because I heard they were the sharpest and longest lasting, I knew I needed to do some more careful research for purchasing the right blades for my sensitive skin. After a few minutes online between product reviews and YouTube tutorials and recommendations, I confidently decided to purchase the Derby Extras. What drew me to these were 1. Excellent price 2. Strict quality control standards from the Turkish manufacturer 3. Stated to be the best for sensitive skin 4. Several different coatings for longevity and performance. After only one shave with these, even with two weeks of beard growth, I had the most comfortable and closest shave ever! I tried these blades when I first began wet shaving three years ago. They came with my EJ razor. I. Hated. Them. I tried Sharks, Gillette Silver Blue (which I remember liking), store brand Personna, Wilkinson Sword (which I love bought a 100-pack), Merkur, And currently working on an Astra green 100-pack. I'm not having particularly good luck with the Astras; they have a good subjective feel, but it seems like I nick myself with them Every. Single. Day. (This isn't technique I rarely cut myself with Wilkinsons or Gillettes.). So, I thought I'd try some other blades. My face is very sensitive, and I have light growth, so I was looking for something not as aggressive as Astras, and Wilkinsons are more than I want to pay for blades. I ordered a pack of Derbys, and I have to say I've completely changed my mind about them. They're not as subjectively smooth as wilkinsons, but they just don't irritate my face like Wilkinsons and Astras do. My loathing of Derbys early on was spurred by lack of technique, I believe. I don't think these blades are for everyone, but for a light beard and sensitive skin, they work wonders with a light touch. Still using them in the EJ 89, with either Palmolive cream or Ogallala soap. My face feels better post-shave than with sharper blades, and my wallet feels better with the cheaper price. I may have found a new daily blade...

I have since narrowed my collection down to seven double edge shavers. and seven brushes. and three different types of blades. one is derby. other is astra. and the third is voskhod. they seem to work for me. all well and in all my double edge razors. the others I got rid of them because some shavers no matter what did not work well with any double edge blades. and a lot of blades did not work well with my razors. but this is for my face only. what may or may not work for me. maybe great for you. so don't judge one blade against another unless you try them in at least three different shavers. You will see differences I also change blades every three days regardless . and I do shave every day. which may or may not make a difference. so the most I hope for is this helps someone. to find the best way to shave for themselves. and I use shaving pucks. favorite brush i silvertip. runner up horse hair. and third boar. and shaving soap. cheap versus expensive. cheap wins out. just as good as the expensive. I just go for price and scent. I keep now several shave brushes and double edge shavers. and numerous cheap pucks of different fragrances of soap just because I like to change off every three days. it makes for fun shaving. OK enough said. HAPPY SHAVING.
