Derwent Coloursoft Pencils are known for their soft velvety strip and rich vibrant colours. These coloured pencils have a round 8mm diameter barrel and a 4mm wide strip. Derwent Coloursoft is an exciting range of highly versatile 72 coloured pencils. The soft, velvety strip allows you to quickly add lots of bold, vibrant colour to your drawing and they're great for colouring in! The core of the Coloursoft range is soft and incredibly creamy, resulting in an overall consistent coverage. Due to the soft nature of the pencil, dry blending is easy, allowing the mixing of colours effortlessly. The Coloursoft is a wax based pencil and so therefore layering can only be applied a limit number of times before a wax build up prevents further layering. However, this can easily be remedied with the application of a solvent based liquid to thin out any buildup. They are best used with mixed media and watercolour paper, but are also suitable for drawing on coloured paper (including black). In comparison to Derwent’s other ranges, Coloursoft is Derwent’s softest colouring pencil.

I love prismacolors but I am always wondering about the other possibilities so I decided to give these a try. These are nice pencils but they wouldn't be my first choice. But they are nice. I only purchased five colors to test out. I LOVE the Acid Yellow.... it goes down SO nicely and creamy and is a nice addition to my collection. I used it in one of my Posh coloring books and it is dreamy! So happy I picked up that color. I got the Sea Green and it is just as lovely however, it is really the same as the Prisma's Aquamarine. Bought the Ochre and Loganberry and Grey Green. Used them all on that page and I have to say, I am quite happy with these pencils -- the picture turned out great. They dust up a bit... not horribly so but they do; be prepared for that. It is a bigger barrel but not uncomfortable -- and mixed in the cup with my prisma's, it isn't trying to draw all the attention (a pun-?).One side of the prisma's sharpener does work for this pencil and gives it a great point. They go down very close to the same as the prisma in my opinion, aside from the dusting which prisma can do sometimes too, but not as much. The Sea Green and the Prisma Aquamarine feel the same going down. The Sea Green dusted; the prisma didn't. The Derwent may be holding the point a little longer, but not by much. The Prisma might be just a little creamier but not by much (and not at all by much with that Acid Yellow). The pencils are comparable for creaminess.I am deducting one point because of the flecking that is occurring although, it really seems to be happening mostly on the Loganberry. The Acid Yellow doesn't fleck at all but all of the other four colors do -- Loganberry does the most, every time and a lot.I was able to layer all of the colors on top of each other with no problem.I would be very willing to try more colors from this line in hopes of trying to find something different. Overall, I think it is a very nice pencil.

I love Coloursoft pencils. The laydown is smooth, the pigment is vibrant leaving the colored object looking great. There is a little bit of scratchiness when you first begin coloring but that subsides once you get started. The barrel is thicker than some pencils, but I find that aids in the grip of the pencil while coloring, They sharpen well, have the color name and number on the barrel of the pencil. They're great for shaing an have a decent blending capabilities. Also, they play well with other pencils. Bonus, they are also open stock. That allows the individual to purchase a specific color without having to repurchase the whole set for one pencil or the set can be built as needed.

Best white color pencil ever created ! Lead is magic when applying to any paper surface. I use it on posterboard and illustration board. Lead does not easily break when sharpening. I highly recommend this pencil.

I have had a couple of days to use these colored pencils and I love them. They are smooth and creamy with really good pigment. The colors are vivid and beautiful. They also work great with the Derwent Procolour and Chromoflow colored pencils. I only color as a hobby, I am NOT a professional artist, not by a long shot, but these pencils are really nice. Amazingly, they work very well with Prismacolor colored pencils too! Yes, I will buy them again, and I would highly recommend them to others.
I ordered the Blackberry and Deep Red Coloursoft pencils to try 'em out. It turns out that I love them. They're soft and creamy with lots of color - even when using them on smooth paper and putting no pressure at all, you get good color and good coverage. No breakage at all, crumbs only if you use more pressure on them than I ever use. I'm very happy with the colors themselves.Btw, I emailed Derwent, who tells me that their pencils don't use heavy metals like Cadmium or Cobalt in any of their pencils. .The only thing I didn't like about these pencils is that they're thicker than other pencils - probably the same as Derwent Inktense or Holbein colored pencils, but that's just personal preference.I'm glad I tried these. I spend a lot of time in my coloring books. I have a boatload of pencils from various manufacturers. This line of pencils are so nice to work with. They feel so smooth and rich and creamy as I use them. The colors are intense and blend and layer so well. Unfortunately, I have found that some of them either break repeatedly when sharpening or were already broken in the barrel. I have tried several different sharpeners with the same result for these several colors. Luckily, I can -and recently did- order individual replacements for those that have been reduced to nubs. I will continue to do so because I like using these so much! I will recommend them with the caution to sharpen gently as this is done frequently because they are so soft and wear down a point more ... MoreI spend a lot of time in my coloring books. I use this for blending other colors together and as a highlight. It blends smoothly and beautifully. I love the ease of laying down the color and the way it blends. I wish I had gotten this color a long time ago.
I love these pencils!!! But I absolutely hate how the bar code sticker is at the end of the pencil. It is an aggravation pulling the sticker off before sharpening the pencil. Otherwise the sticker gets stuck in the pencil sharpener and messes up the point. It is just an unnecessary step to the artistic process that is totally avoidable and easily fixed. Stop doing this!
Derwent pencils are terrific in terms of feel and color. With the larger barrel size, they manage to have a feel that is both noble and playful. They are mid texture, meaning not creamy, not hard. #sweepstakes
I use various brands of artist grade pencils in my work, but primarily Prismacolor and polychromos.when I run out of tooth and can layer no more I need a softer lead to eke out a bit more detail. I have a handful of holbeins that work great-are very expensive so decided to try a color soft. I love it,a bit firmer than a Holbein so I can get a finer point. #sweepstakes
