Just bought this tool, my 6.0Ah 60/20V Flexvolt batteries will not fit the sheet sander. I have no 20V batteries for my 20V max tools, always use 60/20V Flexvolt batteries. I have a large mix of 20V Max and FlexVolt Dewalt tools, never had a battery clearance issue. Come on Dewalt, huge oversight by your Designers/Engineers. It looks like you rotated the outlet on the 5" orbital sander 20V Max (don't own that tool), suggest the same improvement to the 1/4" sheet Sander. Please send me one when complete and I will sent this one to you. No idea how the tool actually works!

Sander is just what I need, great for sanding doors down in preparation for painting. 5ah batteries seem to be the best fit for what I do with minimal battery change outs. Dust collection and emptying the dust catcher needs to be a conscious thing to remember though it's better to have a vacuum hose attached to it. Vacuum hose however tends to throw the unit off balance and you find yourself fighting to keep it level for even pressure on the surface you are sanding. Overall very satisfied with the sander.

This sander have a rubber boot that covers the on/off switch to cover it from dust which I love! The speed goes from 1 to 7. The hand grip is easy to hold at the top and you only need to apply minimal pressure. If anything, you're really just guiding it in the direction that you want it to go. The battery is on the side and out of the way so you don't have to worry about hitting it while sanding. The dust bag is good but keep in mind you will get dust on the outside. It collects a lot from sanding but keep that small bit in mind. I have 4ah batteries and that gets me about 30 mins of use. So you'll need several batteries if you don't want to wait for charging. Overall, not bad for the price.

The claimed improvements with the sand paper clamps is Not an improvement but are Bad Changes. The Front clamp has to be held open with usually your Thumb on One Hand and while you try to slip the paper in the thin slit between the clamp and the base with your Other Hand, you better have a strong thumb to be able to keep it open. That's the First problem, Second Problem is you can only use the Front End of the Sander, because the Rear Clamp leaves the paper in an unusual unusable manner especially if you need to see the edge of the paper to not scratch surrounding material or items. 3rd Problem if you are wet sanding and you try to not waste sandpaper by trying to use the rear part of the paper, remember how hard it was to put Fresh paper in There? Well it's wet now, so getting it in the small slit provided by that front clamp is impossible. So, Expect to Double the Waste of Sandpaper, Double the time to Clamp the Sandpaper and Double the Frustration, also expect to hit other items surrounding what you are working on Due to the unusual Rear Clamp. And if you have ANY left over spare parts you bought for your Previous Dewalt Sanders, they Will Not Fit, including the Pads, the Armature, Bearings - now the bearing may have been workable, but it must be hammered out and hope you don't break the pad holder in the process, but all the previous dewalt parts will fit the 1/4 sheet Porter Cable Sander, they are interchangeable; but not with this New Style dewalt sander. I will not buy this Style again, I'm going back to Porter Cable.
This is definitely a great little sander to have in your toolbag. I have used it from woodworking to drywall finish and it has never let me down. It has more than enough power for any job I have given it. My only issue is with the hand grip itself. I have large hands but the grip is still a little bulky for my liking. If the grip was lengthened it would be a little easier to hold onto. The set clips to hold the sand paper are very strong and hold it tight. I would advise anyone that plans on using this a lot to keep the dust blown out from the internal components after use. It has multiple access points to the inside and is very easy to accumulate dust.
Sander worked great but does not come with a battery. I had 2 20volt 2ah batteries at home that I thought would get the job done. each battery only lasted 4 min. If your going to buy this you will need to buy the 20volt 5ah batteries which are expensive from Dewalt. Returned the item and got the corded version which is half the price all the power. Just something to consider when purchasing. If your planning to buy the bigger batteries this will be a great sander, it honestly worked well.
Like this sander. It's easy to control. Only drawback is that you are limited on the size battery you use because of the positioning of the Battery. It's not that big of a deal because if you were to use a larger battery, the sander would become unbalanced.
I purchase this Sander and used the same day comparing to the equivalent unit from Ryobi p440 that I also have, I have to say what a difference, the Ryobi p440 is much cheaper (around 45 US$ for the bare tool) but after seeing the difference it is worked to pay for this Dewalt unit.a) The very first thing I notice is how easy is to hook or put the sandpaper to the sander, is a day to night difference is by far so much easier on the Dewaltb) the Level of Noise and Vibration compare with the Ryobi P440 is so much less or better. making your job less stressful.c) On the Ryobi p440 the sandpaper has the tendency to move and you have to keep stopping put back the sandpaper to where it should and continue, in the Dewalt, this does not happen because the sandpaper ... MoreI purchase this Sander and used the same day comparing to the equivalent unit from Ryobi p440 that I also have, I have to say what a difference, the Ryobi p440 is much cheaper (around 45 US$ for the bare tool) but after seeing the difference it is worked to pay for this Dewalt unit.a) The very first thing I notice is how easy is to hook or put the sandpaper to the sander, is a day to night difference is by far so much easier on the Dewaltb) the Level of Noise and Vibration compare with the Ryobi P440 is so much less or better. making your job less stressful.c) On the Ryobi p440 the sandpaper has the tendency to move and you have to keep stopping put back the sandpaper to where it should and continue, in the Dewalt, this does not happen because the sandpaper attachment or hook system is much better. In general, I am very happy with this machine my only complaint is the price in my opinion 119US$ for the bare tool is a little to HIGH that why the 4 stars. Thanks
I think overall I will be happy with this Dewalt sander. I tried it initially with a two amp hour battery, and it didn't last very long, which was what I was expecting. I will try a three amp hour battery next time. I feel like any battery more powerful is going to be a little awkward and heavy, making the whole unit a bit top-heavy. However, when you weigh that against having to drag a cord around while sanding, the convenience will probably win the day. Also the sandpaper attachment feature is much better than on my Makita quarter sheet sander, which now must be 10 or 12 years old.
So the sander is nice but I'm having issues finding the correct paper size. The sheets don't fit correctly so having to resort to getting full size and cutting. Also I've read people having issues getting the larger 20v batteries on. That was an issue initially but if you take the bag off and put battery on then the bag back on it will work.
