Do you like games like Pokemon but with an actual cool story? If yes, this is for you. Just... endure a few stupid dialogues. And the kinda bad porting on PC (You can't use your mouse, just keyboard. But it's ok, camera usually is fixed so it's not a big problem.).The "collect all monsters" part it's actually pretty awesome, bc some digimon have really specific requirements to obtain, so it's cool to try and complete the "Digidex". The story is reaaaally cool, especially if you are a fan of the saga.

The game is great! The story was really well made and there is a lot of things to do inside the game. The fighting animation is great. I would recommend it to those that likes Digimon and wants roleplay as one of the main characters like in the anime. Game gets more grindy as it goes on in order to digivolve the digimon so I would discourage anyone who does not like grind to stay away from this game unless you are a big fan of this series.

A grindy collectathon that can still be fun

Whether or not you like this game depends on your general enjoyment of party recruitment and leveling. Nostalgia will also be a huge factor. I found myself working towards certain digimon just because I liked seeing them from the shows.My biggest gripe was how the game simply doesn't respect your time. So much dialog feels pointless and/or meandering. The writers could really take a course in conciseness. The voiceless protagonist was a truly bizarre decision. Adding to this annoyance is how he repeats the same body language ad nauseam. Get ready to see an unhealthy amount of thinking face, dopey smile, and shoulders heaved in exasperation.The environments are very similar to each other. Navigating the digital spaces are a chore because you can't climb - only fall at best. If there's a chest out of the way, you'll go far off the right path and often subject yourself to a couple of random encounters in the process.Progressing the main story becomes very repetitive. You'll have zero idea what your next objective is until you speak to your boss. She'll suggest you check out some place that coincidentally happens to be where someone has a request for you. They'll feel silly as they remember they should actually file the request to your office. You'll trek back to your office to officially accept the request and make your way back to the same NPC in the exact same location to finally start on the mission. It makes you wonder if the team ever bothered with basic playtesting.And the biggest time offender is ABI. These are points each digimon has that are earned by evolving/devolving. Luckily the majority of top-tier digimon can be obtained by devolving once. But the coolest digimon are gated behind absurd ABI requirements. If you truly want them, be ready to evolve/devolve dozens of times. If this isn't an attempt at padding an already long and sloggish experience, I don't know what is.Combat is incredibly basic. It's two levels of rock-paper-scissors weaknesses based on (1) your digimon type and (2) your digimon elemental attribute. Type is king however, so if your digimon is the wrong type to fight an opponent, you'll do pitiful damage even if you hit them with their elemental weakness. This makes strategy boil down to always having an even number of each type in your party and just overwhelming the enemy in a battle of attrition. There are buffs and debuffs that I never found really necessary or even useful. Your digimon can learn techs for curing ailments but you're infinitely rich in this game and can just buy loads of restoratives to do the same.All of this aside, I did enjoy raising an army of Mega level digimon and seeing old favorites from the show. But I can't recommend this game to anyone who doesn't have nostalgia for the series.

Aged but Wonderful

This game is a little aged with it's fixed camera and nearly ps2 looking graphics, but if you can get passed those small issues, this game is wonderfully addictive. Trust me...I've played over 90 hours of this already!Both Digimon Story games are here and with all DLC + new game plus and the ability to trade digimon between both games. Also, the first game now includes all extra digimon included in Hackers Memory which puts the total over 300. Like digimon? Like RPG games like Pokemon? Like laughable translation errors? If so, this game is for you!! (ps: laughable translation errors really are a positive in my opinion.)

Not gonna spend the review bashing Pokemon. If you know, I don't need to spell it out for you.As far as these games go, they were crafted with love that can be seen through the overall quality, time, and polish that are clearly there.While both entries are admittedly text heavy, you will be sent on an otherwise wonderful nostalgia trip of a JRPG. You can customize your team how you seem fit, the battle controls are straightforward, and the story is decent and at the very least very colorful and funny at times.If you grew up loving Digimon and wishing they could produce a quality video game to compete with Pokemon, this is it. AND is is two games in one and cheaper. Win-win-win.

Could be better.

2 games in one. Digimon RPG.Gameplay is like pokemon except you control more than one digimon.Story is mixed. The first game was a slow start and didn't catch my interest until half way through.The translation is pretty bad. Sometimes you get to pick your dialogue (3 choices) but when you read it you'll realize it's 2 sentences that take up 3 lines. And sometimes you make the right choice but it will be wrong because they translated the answers wrong.Overall they will satisfy your digimon itch, but there's lots of room for improvement.

SMT In A Candy Wrapper

It's a cute game that plays very similarly to both Persona and SMT. The guy who did the art for SMT: Devil Survivor I and II also did the art for this, and it surprisingly works quite well for the theme. The music was done by the same guy who did Danganropa. The music and the visuals work well together for some pleasing eye and ear candy.Much like SMT, the digital and real worlds have begun to merge and you're thrown into the middle of it. Your job is to figure out why this is happening. While not as dark as mainline SMT, it's getting there, and while it's not bad, it can be jarring with the bright backgrounds and cute monsters.Combat is intuitive, turn based, and easy to pull off. Super fun and unique from other JRPGs like Pokémon

Extreme value for the price, it’s two games! Both games take a long time to 100% finish as well.My favorite part of the game is managing all of my digimon and digivolving to every possible digimon.It has a great story, there is a ton of dialogue which could be good or bad depending on your preference.The 3 digimon battle system is fantastic and a nice change from a typical Pokémon type battle system. It adds a lot of options for how you want to play and setup your party of digimon. There is 3 Rock Paper Scissor types, and 9 elements that combat each other. This causes you to make sure you Party is well rounded and stops you from relying on just 1 strong digimon.I would definitely recommend this game if you are a fan of Digimon, JRPGs, Pokémon, or Persona 4/5.

I suppose I thought it would be a some Pokémon clone, but it is far from that! This game has been a pleasure to discover; hundreds of unique Digimon and digievolutions, a genuinely interesting story, and honestly some of the funniest interactions between characters I’ve ever seen! The lack of a chat log and skip chat are annoying but not game-breaking for me. Also keep in mind this is one of those, “die and go to title screen games,” but you can literally save almost anywhere and it’s pretty easy to tell when something big is about to go down.
