I was given an 13lt Dometic in xmas 21, for my bicycle tours. Frozen 2lt milk bottle of water, lasted 4 days, for my xmas trip. So happy, that I bought a 42 lt 10 days ago. Put in 4 X 2lt frozen bottles, first day, with nothing else, and they have lasted 9 days, without opening it. Needed this bigger one, so I don't have to take out my portable 3 way fridge, as it is big and heavy. Only needed the ice to last 6 days, as this is the average trip we do with the campertrailer. Great investment!

I used 4x1L frozen water bottles in this esky and they were completely defrosted within 24 hours. Upside is that the food and drinks inside did stay cool enough for the rest of the weekend and it wasn’t even a hot weekend and I pre cooled the esky too. Very disappointing in that their claim says it keeps ice for 3-4 days. The people I was with had the same esky but an earlier model and theirs didn’t keep the ice either. Maybe I should have spent the money on a Kings product at least then you know you get what you pay for.

I was totally misled by BCF staff when I was seeking the best icebox for long fishing trips. I was going to spend $400 on a Yeti until the staff member turned me onto the Dometic and assured me it’ll keep ice solid for 7-10 days! I though ok even if the ice keeps for half that time I’d be happy. So I was also upsold the divider and rack for an additional $50. On the first 2 uses I couldn’t believe how a 4L ice cream container of solid ice could turn to water within 5 hours. I was amazed at how poorly it performed its only task, to keep stuff cold. I’ve owned some cheap crappy eskies but this expensive storage box takes the cake. How long does this company think it can get away with selling boxes that perform worse than a cardboard box in full sunlight? My wife has become an avid smoker of everything meat - red, poultry, fish, etc, etc - and needed a container to keep cooked meats warm (and still slowly cooking) - a slower cooling period increases the tenderness of the meat. This 'icebox' turned out to be perfect for the job as the wide dimensions accommodated a small number of foil dishes (each with a different meat) or a single large foil dish with a 4 kg brisket in a fly-free warm environment. A thin wooden chopping board in the bottom stops the Dometic from getting scorched. I have 5 other iceboxes of various sizes - including some Dometics - but this was the only (smallish) one that was suitable for this purpose and has fast become the most often used icebox in our home. Awesome! A few dot points...- Put a small, medium and large "arctic ice" frozen gel pack in it.- Sat it on the dirt under the side awning of my 4wd. Not covered with anything else.- This was in QLD autumn weather... 29°c days and cool nights.- Kept all my drinks and food cold for the 3 days I was away.- Came home and put the icebox out the back. Checked it 3 days later and large gel pack was still 1/2 frozen. In conclusion 100% recommend this for a few nights away. No ice slush water to empty when you get home and food not drowning in water either. Hot tip... Do what I did and put some frozen water bottles in your icebox before you go away. Cools it down first before you add your gel ice packs in.
Love this esky, it's the perfect size for a weekend away, 2 or 3 days it'll keep your food and beers cold with ice bricks. Fits perfectly on top of my titan drawer system and I can tie down the esky to the tie down points on top of the drawer, plus still open the lid and get stuff out of the esky without pulling it out of the car (the shallow depth is perfect). Esky is also lightweight enough. Sturdy handles. Price is reasonable, too. Still deciding on whether to get the divider. Yes, I would recommend.
Bought one of these on a sale. With under a week of using it the sleeve that the drainage bung screws into came loose and spun around with the bung when tightening and unscrewing causing it to start leaking. Leaked water all over my car interior. BCF were fast to replace it when I took it back to the store.- Only keeps ice for 2 to 3 days max even when inside or shady areas.- Way overpriced for an esky.- It's built tough but even on sale was more than double the price of equivalent size brands.- Can't stack cans 2 high and 1litre wine and 1.25L and 2L soft drink won't stand up.
Brought the 42 litre for a 7 day camping trip and had to refill with ice every day because all the ice melted. Every drink we put in there was cold from the fridge and still the ice melted as fast as it would in a cheap esky. Should have saved abit more money and got a real fridge. Will be taking it back to get refund, don't recommend this product at all.
I bought this about 3 months ago and have used it several times both for trips away and for one day use. Even with constant opening, putting in and taking out of items at various temps and not ‘pre-cooling the ice easily lasted up to 3 days. It does help to not break the ice up too much or to keep it while in the bag. The bigger the blocks the better.I feel like some of the other reviewers here may have been expecting more than a icebox can possible deliver although, I’ll admit, this one, at full price, is at the top end of the range for its size. Look for it on sale, like at the time of writing at BCF.
Well worth it, I bought this as it was the only chilly bin I could find that would fit into our camper in the gap we wanted it. It's sturdy, has nice and flat sides and bottom and fits lots of food into it. I have only used it twice and with relatively small ice packs in it at that, but it has had no issue keeping everything at a cold temperature at the beginning of an NZ summer. I just flip the rubber latches under inside the lid when not in use so it can have some air circulating. I'm definitely going to be buying the accessory pack (basket and divider) for it at some point as well.
