Bad plastic taste in boiled water even after 4 months

Nice looking kettle to match our toaster, but since day 1 it always needs washing out with clean water or you get a plastic taste. Descaled and repeated for 4 months. It's the only kettle we had where we need to always tip the old boiler water out and give it a good wash with clean filtered water, then refill to boil for cup of tea. However if you forget the kettle even for a few mins and decide to reboil then you get the plastic taste .Rang customer services or said they have heard of this.I think the plastic components in the kettle are leaching chemicals into the water and it tastes awful unless you alway go through the same routine of washing kettle out before use.Support at Dualit said if I'm not happy take back for a refund, so it appears they may all be ... MoreNice looking kettle to match our toaster, but since day 1 it always needs washing out with clean water or you get a plastic taste. If you are planning on buying this kettle - beware - read the problem reviews thoroughly, sadly all true.I have what seems like universal faults with my kettle now too - i.e. first on/off switch fails to work - I literally have to stand with my finger pressing it down or it flips up & turns off - & now leaking very badly with every boil!Like others, I was attracted to this kettle because of its looks, it's very classy, and because of the brand, Dualit have a good reputation which has badly let its customers down with this kettle. It is a fault they are aware of but chose to ignore which clearly states the company has no pride in the integrity of its manufacture or customer service.I, for one, will never buy from them again.Shame on Dualit!

I bought this expecting a quiet, long lasting kettle. Whilst it is quieter than some, it's still pretty noisy. But I can live with that. The big problem is that over the last few months it intermittently does not switch on when the button is pressed down. It's unpredictable which makes it frustrating. This isn't what I expect from a kettle marketed as top end.My 2 Yr warranty soon runs out and I think I will have to return it.

Disappointing
10 March 2021

Although not purchased through John Lewis, I felt I should review this kettle for others who are considering purchasing it. I have had two of these in six years: the first one lasted just over two years before it started to leak. I contacted Dualit, who agreed it should last longer and asked me to send it to them for the service department to assess. After a while, they contacted me, told me it wasn't possible to fix the problem and sent me a replacement. Satisfied customer! However, two and a half years later, the second kettle developed the same problem of leakage, plus the on/off switch had developed a mind of its own. I contacted Dualit again and told them the tale. This time, they said for me to return the kettle, they would assess it and let me know the cost ... MoreAlthough not purchased through John Lewis, I felt I should review this kettle for others who are considering purchasing it. This time, they said for me to return the kettle, they would assess it and let me know the cost of repair, I didn't think about this for long: same fault as previous kettle which couldn't be fixed, so this one unlikely to be fixed either, so I would end up with no kettle, or a replacement at a reduced cost and the likelihood that the same problem would occur, Decided to give up on Dualit kettle and purchased a £30 Russell Hobbs replacement. Very disappointed as we have a 20+ year old Dualit toaster which is fantastic and trouble free and we assumed the kettle would be as reliable. On the positive side, it looks great, boils quickly and is quiet but that doesn't compensate for problems.

Great design but doesn't last long
5 February 2023

Bought the copper version of this kettle approx 3 yrs ago . Was attracted by the design and although expensive for a kettle i expected it to last ,having a Dualit toaster and hand mixer which have been reliable. Unfortunately it has stopped working! Copper trim is wearing off. Longevity is no better than cheaper kettles.Very disappointed. I understand that Dualit could offer a repair but that in itself is costly!

New Dialit Kettle

Dualit certainly know how to design . This new kettle has copper trim which is very eye catching and brings warm tones to the kitchen sitting alongside a Dualit toaster with the same colour theme . I was recommended Dualit appliances by my daughter who has had earlier models for ages with no wear and tear problems or defects. I expect to be using my new kettle and toaster for many years . Expensive but worth it and should not have to keep replacing has I did with cheaper models .

Not worth the money!
14 May 2022

Most kettles available now are cheaply made and over priced, (plastics imitating metal, same kettles just with different branding etc.). I decided that after having gone through a number of average kettles over the years, paying well over the odds would surely lead to the excellent quality and feature's gained from the cheaper bracket all those years ago (what's happened to Kenwood? They used to be amazing kettles now they feel like counterfeit rip offs?!). The Dualit Classic kettle is definitely the best quality kettle I have received for a while. I cannot help but still feel underwhelmed and ripped off somehow though. I expected the kettle to at least illuminate the window (It doesn't). There's no button to open the water fill lid (which is really stiff to open even after a number of uses) and there's screws open to the elements as if someone has just added the copper accents and Dualit branding when required. It's a lower bracket kettle from all those years ago modded to look like an expensive higher end kettle. Definitely not worth the money paid for it. Yet again, gutted with another purchase of an item which should have been premium.

Stylish and solidly built
16 February 2023

Bought to replace a previous Dualit Kettle as the element had failed and was not repairable. This model cost more, but can be repaired should a critical component fail, in the same way that the classic toaster can, so hopefully more sustainable. It feels a lot more solid than previous models we've had, it is nicely balanced in the hand and it pours really well. Only negative is the lid ( hence only four stars), which is hinged to one side, but pulled open from the centre. Not exactly awkward, but not as ergonomic as it could be. Also, for this price, it would have been nice if it had two temperature settings, as some other premium kettles have.

Stylish looking kettle
1 October 2022

I really love Dualit products and in particular their kettles and toasters. I bought this as a gift for my parents and they think it is a fantastic replacement for their previous kettle and looks great in their kitchen. The capacity is great and it is not too noisy (compared to some other previous models of Dualit kettles). You have to lift the lid by pulling on the plastic handle/ring at the top (there's no button to automatically release the lid), which I thought would be an issue after the kettle has boiled (for example, hot to touch) but my parents have said it is absolutely fine and not a problem at all. It is a pricey kettle, but I find that Dualit products have good durability, so it should last for a long time.

Very disappointing considering the price.
1 March 2022

We bought this kettle in August 2019 and justified its high price based on our assumption and Dualits marketing that it would last. Shortly after it was two years old it sometimes became difficult to switch on, the on/off switch would not stay down. This has now become a constant problem and I enquired with Dualit to see if they would consider repairing or replacing the kettle as it is still only two and a half years old. They refused completely and told me that I should send the kettle to them for repair at my expense at an estimated cost of £54.I have decided not to and will not buy a Dualit product again. Sadly their claims that it has their "trademark longevity and reliability" are neither backed up by the build quality or their customer care policy.
