Bad plastic taste in boiled water even after 4 months

I don't love this kettle. It works but it has some serious design flaws, including a lid that gets pretty hot and is difficult to open if you've recently boiled water and need to boil more. Additionally, the kettle itself feels pretty flimsy and has waaaaaay more plastic that I was expecting. Overall, the kettle looks fine on the counter but, honestly, if you care about usability and the price you're paying, this could do so much more. I've had the kettle for about 1.5 years and am already looking for a replacement (note: kettle IS still working but I want more functionality).

Looks great, lovely and quiet and seems quick to boil
12 February 2024

I was originally looking at slightly cheaper kettles but ended up switching to this at the last minute, as one of the few that JLP will actually certify as quiet boil. With open plan living/dining/kitchen I could not cope with how loud our old kettle was, hence wanting a new quiet kettle. Dualit have a good reputation and with included warranty I decided to spend the extra. This looks great in the kitchen, easy to fill, the fill guide on the side is really clear and easy to use. It's also lightweight and easy and comfortable to lift (important due to shoulder injury).

Not Long Lasting Keetles
27 January 2023

We have had 2 Dualit kettles in 6 years.First keetle we had was the jug design, this just stopped working after 3 years, at the time it was under a lot of use as I was a career for my father and he drank a lot of tea.We gave the benefit of doubt to the kettle not withstanding longevity as other less expense brands we had purchased over the years, to excess use.We liked the design of the classic so purchased this along with the toaster. It was being sold as a silent kettle, we had recently moved to an open plan house so silent is what we required in our kettle design, unfortunately we had to return it as it sounded like concord was taking off in the kitchen. We stuck with the same design and the replacement was, indeed silent. Now, Yet again after 3 years this ... MoreWe have had 2 Dualit kettles in 6 years.First keetle we had was the jug design, this just stopped working after 3 years, at the time it was under a lot of use as I was a career for my father and he drank a lot of tea.We gave the benefit of doubt to the kettle not withstanding longevity as other less expense brands we had purchased over the years, to excess use.We liked the design of the classic so purchased this along with the toaster. It was being sold as a silent kettle, we had recently moved to an open plan house so silent is what we required in our kettle design, unfortunately we had to return it as it sounded like concord was taking off in the kitchen. We stuck with the same design and the replacement was, indeed silent. Now, Yet again after 3 years this design has mall functioned beyond repair, this time with a leak at the water gage.Once I forgave, twice Not a repeat buy again.Nice designs, but they just do not last .Very disappointed at the price we paid for what we believed to be a long lasting device. We will now be buying another manufacturer. If you want it to be a show off kettle buy it, if you want longevity for your money buy another brand.3 STARS 1 FOR EACH YEAR OF USE

Not worth the money!
14 May 2022

Most kettles available now are cheaply made and over priced, (plastics imitating metal, same kettles just with different branding etc.). I decided that after having gone through a number of average kettles over the years, paying well over the odds would surely lead to the excellent quality and feature's gained from the cheaper bracket all those years ago (what's happened to Kenwood? They used to be amazing kettles now they feel like counterfeit rip offs?!). The Dualit Classic kettle is definitely the best quality kettle I have received for a while. I cannot help but still feel underwhelmed and ripped off somehow though. I expected the kettle to at least illuminate the window (It doesn't). There's no button to open the water fill lid (which is really stiff to open even after a number of uses) and there's screws open to the elements as if someone has just added the copper accents and Dualit branding when required. It's a lower bracket kettle from all those years ago modded to look like an expensive higher end kettle. Definitely not worth the money paid for it. Yet again, gutted with another purchase of an item which should have been premium.

Outstanding Kettle.

Quiet, non-drip, quick to boil, sleek design. Extremely happy with this purchase. Worth every penny.Bought Dualit as my Partner used to fix them in his Saturday job. They're made to last and are easily fixed / parts replaced, therefore better for the environment. We've had a Dualit toaster for 15 years, used it every day, for a family of four, and not had any issues. It's so quick compared to normal toasters (keeps inside of bread fluffy whilst outside beautifully toasted) and is still going strong. Our old kettle died New Year's Eve. Ordered this New Year's Day; online checkout said delivery in 4-10 days - arrived early on 4 Jan (3 working days).Excellent product and service from John Lewis. Thank you.

Reassuringly expensive but probably worth it
26 May 2024

Looks good, large capacity, quick boil (and fairly quiet about it), easy to see fill level, and best of all the perfect pourer (I don't know how they have engineered it but it really is the best pourer I have ever come across - no splashing risk here). Clinchers for me were that it is made in the UK and has a replaceable element so should last for ever in theory. Dualit have always proved to be the best engineered appliances (with minimal gimmicks) for me (my coffee grinder is at least 20 years old and my toaster - elements replaced once - definitely older and we also have a younger but excellent stick mixer) and this looks to be no exception. One small niggle - the lid doesn't have a spring opening, but this is probably just one less thing to go wrong. Review of Dualit 72796 Classic 1.7L Jug Kettle - Polished Stainless Steel
16 January 2024

A great looking kettle. The quiet boil is impressive and the shiny base it sits on matches the kettle which was a good unexpected surprise. The only difficulty is that it is not easy to see the level of water in the kettle through the window on either side. I tend to judge the level by opening the kettle when I fill it up. For the price I would have expected a better way of seeing the level.

Very disappointed. Expected more from Dualit
2 November 2023

I thought it's whole selling point is it would last for years and was repairable. Was great for 2 and a bit years...but I only used it twice a day max for one cuppa, yet it stopped fully boiling after just over 2 yrs. Stops boiling prematurely and won't switch on again. Dualit said estimated repair £54 but add on postage costs and being without kettle for 3-4 weeks, is it worth it? Expected SO much more from this kettle and company. Even the last cheap kettle I had was still going strong after 7 years. I love the design and it is great at being non-drip but I am so disappointed with this kettle now and with the Company.
