Dungeons & Dragons Castle Ravenloft Board Game
The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner and you’re invited! But evil lurks in the towers and dungeons of Castle Ravenloft, and only heroes of exceptional bravery can survive the horrors within. Designed for 1-5 players, Castle Ravenloft features multiple scenarios, challenging quests, and cooperative gameplay. Each player selects a hero; a ranger, rogue, warrior, cleric, or wizard. On their turn, each player can explore further into the dungeon (turn over new tiles), move through the already explored parts of the dungeon, and fight monsters. When a new dungeon tile is revealed, there is typically an encounter of some sort, and new monsters to fight are added. Slain monsters reward the players with treasure, and experience points, allowing them to level up and increase their skills during play. Players must cooperate to stay alive, slay the monsters, and achieve the goal of their quest. Each scenario has a different goal – from retrieving a relic, to slaying a vampire lord. Castle Ravenloft is recommended for 1-5 players, ages 12 and up, and takes approximately an hour to play.

I had high hopes for this game, but unfortunately it fell short. Physically, the game is made exceptionally well - I cannot fault them on that. However, it is rather complex, and overall not very fun and entertaining. At a much, much lower price, I might even recommend you getting it to try it out for yourself, however after trying out this game, I wont be buying or recommending this and others like it again, unfortunately.

Fantastic game! So addictive. I started playing solo to get the hang of it before playing with friends but I haven't been able to stop adventuring. Absolutely love it.

It's fun packed in a box. It's like D&D turned into in a board game, with cards instead of dice and DM. Takes time to unbox and set up (huge amount of token and cards), but this is fun too. Quality of parts is top notch. Gameplay is amazingly designed. You can choose how much you role play, but you can definitively role play if you want. Feels like a campaign setting for D&D.

Given the rules complexity of Dungeons and Dragons, I had expected that this boardgame-of-the-roleplaying game would also be complex. But it is not. Where the designers have been faced between a choice of a rule which works best with D&D, or a rule which works best for a boardgame they have taken the second choice every time. As a result, playing a game flies. At my first attempt - with two friends - we raced through 3 games in just over 3 hours. And that included the time it took to read the rulebook. In essence each game involves exploring a dungeon on one of 13 quests (each quite distinct). Between 1-5 players each control a character. In essence each game involves exploring a dungeon on one of 13 quests (each quite distinct). Between 1-5 players each control a character. Each character has different powers which help in facing all the dangers and monsters that the group will face in completing their quest. The dungeon is made by laying down random tiles, monsters and (mostly adverse) events occur, and the players respond. The game is fast and great fun. The board and the pieces are very high quality. The possibility for further quests and development endless. The only flaw, in my opinion, is that the rulebook is occasionally slightly opaque. Concepts are sometimes not as well explained as they could be, and I suspect any errata will not invole rule changes as they will rule clarifications.
I bought D&D Castle Ravenloft because one person can play all adventures, you can control 1 to 5 heroes by yourself just as you would a D&D video game. Your team plays against the game, which is very well balanced if you follow the rules. Creator's put a lot of thought into these games. I've bought all 5 in the series and they get better and can be played as campaigns. Read the rules, because they change from game to game. The'r all very good.
Caste Ravenloft is a D&D Boardgame, it is not an RPG. With that said I need to remark that this game is a masterpiece really well made for those like me who did not have time, nor expertise, to make a custom D&D adventure. This boardgame comes with everything you need to start an adventure without a DM and books. You need to follow specific set of instructions, that may seem repetitive but you get accustomed to it. Everything is really well made, quality figures (that you can use in traditional D&D RPG games), sturdy Dungeon Tiles (that generates a random dungeon everytime you play), Monster cards, Encounter cards (cards that make the adventure spicy like a really mad and crazy DM), Heroes and Villains cards, and a lot of tokens (HP, status, etc.). At first, when you start to know the game, it may seem that everything is against your odds. Lot of monsters appear and the Encounter cards give you a storm of negative events, but when you gather experience you learn to play more strategically despite the seemingly repetitive turn based session. Its a really well made boardgame that I appreciate a lot, coz you can even play it alone and enjoy it in solitude. It can be combined with Wrath of Ashardalon.
This is my first experience with tabletop D&D games, and I have to say, it was extremely fun to play.At first, it feels very overwhelming with the many things going on (monster movement, tile placement, events, and battling). Somethings aren't explained in the rulebook and online sources say to do what you think is best a lot of the time, so that makes it somewhat complicated to make everyone agree, but once you do figure it all out, it's one of the most fun co-operative board games I've played.I play two players with my girlfriend (her first D&D experience, too), and we both really enjoy it.(Normally, the price of this board game is $40 and up, so at around $30, it's a bargain).
This is a fast paced co-op game that takes an hour or less. Not really a 'dungeon crawl', but more of a puzzle game like Elder Sign. Plus, you can play solo. Not only is this a great game played as-is, but if you have anyone wanting to get into D&D, this is a great starter set. While the board game is based on 4e, it has plenty to offer 5e DMs - 40 miniatures, tokens, random dungeons to make your own battlemap...Highly recommended.
This item is very fun and easy to play for people that like board games of any kind.Whether you want to kill a few hours or just spend a little time gathered around with your friends this game will do the trick. The miniatures that come with the game are all color coded and represent the characters that they are sculpted after very well, both enemies and heroes alike. Mechanics in this game take only a little bit of reading and set up for a game is about five minutes. When I first played with four other friends I read up on the rules and then walked them through their first turn. After getting comfortable with things the game took off and it was very laid back, team oriented and provided us a great way to spend an evening.I would say this is a great buy for ... I remember seeing the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons advertised in comics back in the 90's and thinking how awesome it looked. When I actually got the opportunity to play the game, I was a bit disappointed to find out that most of the game was pencil and paper work. While this is great for people who had the time and imagination to come up with amazing scenarios, I wanted something a lot more visual and interactive. Enter the D&D Board Game series. These sets (including this one) take parts of the D&D world and put a board-game twist on them. The game is a co-op game where it's the players versus the game itself (so no more need for one player to always act as a DM). The game never plays the same way! The game is a co-op game where it's the players versus the game itself (so no more need for one player to always act as a DM). The game never plays the same way! There are several scenarios (and some new ones available online) that give you a different objective each time you play. In addition, as you play the game, you place random dungeon tiles in the way you choose to customize your dungeon layout. Monster spawns are also random (though some are specified in the game for scenario objectives). The game is not a pushover either, as it is very easy to have your team wiped out and fail the objective. Overall, it's a great game that can be played solo, but is best played with a group of friends (gameplay usually lasts 1-2 hours) that will not get old anytime soon. If you're looking to capture that D&D fun without writing campaigns, designing dungeons, and coming up with the back-stories, then this game is for you.
