I was looking to buy an air purifier and the John Lewis associate I spoke to recommend the Dyson. When I saw this online and at a cheaper (for dyson) price I nabbed it. However, it turns out there is no purifier setting - you either have to have the heat on or the fan on, so clearly you can't leave it running all the time like a regular purifier. I called John Lewis and they confirmed this. The recommendation is to leave it on cool setting 1 but this is noisier and has more airflow than my old Bionaire or Levoit purifiers. So not ideal. I am sure great as a fan or heater and bonus of course that it purifies the air when it is on, but I wish I had understood the difference and Dyson had made this clearer. Sadly as I had opened the box JL wouldn't refund or exchange ... MoreI was looking to buy an air purifier and the John Lewis associate I spoke to recommend the Dyson. We've had our heater/fan for about a month now and are really impressed with it. Due to the warmer autumnal weather we haven't really needed the heating on in the house but have used this heater to add some warmth to our living room. Another reason for purchasing was because it's lightweight and can be moved around - great for the other half who works from home. The heater is fairly quiet and doesn't interfere with tv viewing - just put your sound up a couple of bars. It's kicks out the heat even on the lowest setting and has various options to change the direction of the heat as well as turning off once the pre selected temp is achieved. At present our smart meter states it costs 52p per hour to run but we only need it on for about 20 mins to feel the benefit. ... MoreWe've had our heater/fan for about a month now and are really impressed with it. The fan element works well. A bit noisier than I expected for a Dyson but no worse for me than a conventional fan and it doesn't bother me. What I don't like is that, in heating mode, the fan keeps operating even when after the room reaches temperature and the heating element has switched off. I have other fan heaters that will just cut out once a temperature is reached but this keeps circulating air until the temp drops sufficiently to trigger the heating element. Aside from being blown with room temperature air, it means it continues to make some noise and use power. Not ideal for how I want to use it. It also draws more power than my much larger Dimplex tower heater (about 1.7kW versus 1.1kW for the Dimplex) although the air speed from the Dyson seems stronger so ... MoreThe fan element works well. Easy to use, lightweight, and provides relief for warmer or cooler days. I have a small-ish living room and the heating element on this fan is powerful enough to warm up the room in about 5-10 minutes. The cooling feature of this fan is also sufficient for the living room when it warms up. That being said, because of the way my house is built, my living room does not get super hot. For my living room, the cooling feature of this fan is sufficient to bring the temperature down, however if your living room gets really hot I am unsure if it would provide as much relief as other more powerful fans.
The size is perfect and can be moved around easily and has a tilt function which is perfect when sitting on a cabinet. Cools the space down amazingly and from what we can tell the purifier works great. Only small downsides are it gets a bit loud on high but so far have not had to have on high for long as it works so well on 1 or 2 setting out of 10. The light on the front can be a bit bright in the night but you get used to it, be great if manufacturers could make lights dim or sleep until buttons pressed. Was a little worried about spending so much money but glad we did, love it and really happy with purchase. Price and service from Good Guys was fantastic.
I have a home beauty salon and it gets all of the afternoon heat. The ducted aircon turns the place into Antarctica and the power bills massive. I wanted a solution to cool the room down without needing the aircon and this has done just that. Yes a fan would do the same thing but it's allowed me to condense 3 appliances (heater, fan and air purifier) into one unit. The remote control and different settings have been very helpful too. In low 30s temps I haven't needed to put the air con on so it will pay for itself in no time. I considered this a year ago when looking for an air purifier, and now wish I had've just gotten this model instead of getting a $200 air purifier and then this a year later. Plus you know it's built to last being dyson.
I can notice the air purity already after one day of use. We bought it for our toddlers room to maintain the temperature throughout the night, whilst purifying. The air isn't drying like other fan heaters, and distributes the heat more efficiently across the room. Once the desired temperature is reached, the heating turns off (and back on once the temperature drops), but the purifying continues, which is very quiet. Unless you set a timer to turn the Dyson off, the purifier will continue circulating... which is ideal for us, but just a note for others. From my very quick research, the air purifying doesn't cost much to run so happy to run it overnight and turn it off in the morning. Note that the the manual has a warning to supervise children under 3 around the fan.
I bought four of these units, based on how happy I am with my Dyson vac. I gave two to the lodger and his son living upstairs at my house, one for my bedroom, and one to my partner. Only my partner likes hers, and her house is solid brick and always cool anyway. My house is not, and feels the heat. The lodger and I are in agreeance that the units are hopeless with hot weather and do little more than push the already warm air around. They certainly don't 'cool'. We are more hopeful that the heating part of the unit will at least do something useful in winter. I'm probably going to return the units to the shop and ask for a refund or purchase something that does work.
I purchased this as I work from home, I thought it would be more cost affective to heat up just my office than putting on the heating! I've only used the heat functionality and it's great! You can set the heat temperature and fan speed as well as direction you wish it to blow. I also use it to dry washed clothes I've hung on a clothes horse. The fan itself is small (check size in product description), it does not take too much room but equally it looks quite cool. I look forward to warmer days when I can use the cool function. It is a pricey fan but with all electrical items, you get what you pay for.
