With a minimal amount of prep (picking up dog toys and clothing) it does a great job with coverage and I have found the object detection does quite well at avoiding stuff I may have missed. And when my big dog doesn’t feel like getting out of the way (he is 100lbs+) the T8 just goes around him. The mapping functions are great and the fact that you can have the robot clean everything, just a room or just an area you have selected are very handy. And the multiple maps you can store are great as I have it clean the guest room up stairs whenever I am going to have company.I have found that cleaning the T8 about twice as much as recommended seems to help keep everything functioning great. The little cleaning brush helps immensely with getting all the dust out of the dust bin since it likes to build up in the corners. And I will say that it is fairly simple to clean, very minimal effort.A few down sides I have found but they don’t really bother me is that long hair does tend to tangle up in the brush rather easily but that take all of 30 seconds and of my time to resolve and I only have to do it once a week. The other problem is that if you don’t run the T8 regularly the bin fills up to much and the auto empty station can’t get all the pet hair out. But I can’t really say that is the robots fault.A bigger down side is the mop. I bought the scrubbing attachment in addition to the standard mop unit that comes with the robot. On the positive it is great for cleaning up small messes and if I run the scrubbing unit in the same spot twice it does a fairly good job of cleaning up around the dogs water bowls. The down side is that it is more like a maintenance thing. If you have not mopped my hand in a while it doesn’t really do anything to get the floor clean. I think some kind of cleaning solution would help with that. The major down side though is not with the robot itself but is the cost of replacement bags. I find they are far to expensive. Breaking down the cost it is just under 7$ a bag when you by the three pack which is about as much as I would pay for a vacuum bag for my normal vacuum and these are much smaller. If they could do something about that I would admit that I would really have no complaints about this robot.

I purchased the Ecovac Deebot x1 Omni Sep2023. Product was maintained monthly & working just fine. Conveniently once it was Oct2024 - past the 1 year warrant mark - the product stopped working randomly. Does not vacuum properly, does not load water or cycles dirty water into the tanks anymore. Ecovac customer service is horrible & does not give any proper diagnosis & just asks you to ship the machine to United States for third party repairs - unknown cost once it's out of your hands. Avoid this machine at all cost.

Great Cleaner, Terrible App
30 April 2022

I purchase this just over a year ago - and so have had plenty of time to figure out where it succeeds and where it fails.Firstly, the good, it does a brilliant job as a robot vacuum cleaner, once it has done its rounds the floors (carpet and vinyl) are spotless. Having two side brushes makes this superior to other cleaners that only have a single brush, and its ability to get right up in there on skirtings and corners is great. It picks up all sort of stuff and even without the auto empty bin (an extra $399 in NZL for some reason) it still does about 3 trips around the house before I need to manually empty the little internet bin. Its reasonably unobtrusive, it is loud but not offensively so. It picks up all sort of stuff and even without the auto empty bin (an extra $399 in NZL for some reason) it still does about 3 trips around the house before I need to manually empty the little internet bin. Its reasonably unobtrusive, it is loud but not offensively so. The mopping attachment that comes with it is basic and really just wipes the floor, if you want proper mopping back and forth you need the posh add-on part for that, which does an adequate job, but only just. The not so great, firstly I'll start with the mop, it really isn't up to much, it says you can only use cold water, which of course does nothing to shift say an oil splatter stain on the kitchen floor, so I've got in the habit of pre-spraying the hard floors with cleaner before sending this thing out. If you set it on maximum clean, max water flow it does an adequate job of mopping. As I said, the fact the auto-empty station is a $399 add on in NZL is a joke, it should just come with one - sure you don't absolutely need it and the little bin is ok for a day or three, but if you're going to be away for a few days, you want to disable the auto cleaning schedule otherwise you will be annoyed by notices about full bin and so on... which Segway's into the App. Its fairly obvious this app is made by someone in China, its functionality and use of language is at best strange though it has improved slightly over time. The biggest problems it has are that it takes time to create a map of your home, it uses a mixture of sight/camera, bumpers and a Lidar sensor on top to do this, and mostly it works very well - and the map will exist for a few days and then disappear or it will randomly change rooms around, make them smaller or merge with a room next door, the mapping function has been a huge bugbear from day 1 and it hasn't been resolved despite numerous complaints to EcoVacs about it. They claim you can save a map once it works it out correctly but I can't see a way to do that, so you just end up in the cycle every so often of needing to remap your house, restore all the barriers you've set up so it doesn't get tangled in your AV cables behind the tv, or get stuck in the not quite wide enough gap down the sides of the toilet. The app truly is the biggest flaw with the AiVIt8 - its just poorly done and poorly updated. You can set up schedules which do work well, until of course the map goes awry and then your schedules are stuffed to.What I wish I'd known: To buy the auto empty bin at the start or that is was included to being with. That you need to use hot/warm water for mopping and you should spray floor cleaner before you set it off to clean the floor. You will need to redo the maps at least once or twice a month, it is an automatic process but it still is a frustration. If you have an outside area where the floor is level between in and out, make sure your doors are closed otherwise it will map your outside as part of the inside and try to clean accordingly. You will struggle to find accessories for it in NZL, no one seems to sell them despite so many retailers selling the cleaners, when the brushes run out or the filters need replacing your left with buying knockoffs from china, or paying a stupid amount to get overprices legit accessories shipped from AU. Once in the past year I managed to find a pack of them on Mighty Ape, but only once and they have never been back in stock again. Ecovacs tell you nothing helpful other than to buy them from Australia. So, would I buy a Robot Vacuum Cleaner again? Absolutely I would, its amazing the difference not having to hoover daily makes to ones life. Would I buy an EcoVacs again, no I wouldn't, its cleaning is ok, its mopping is meh, but the app and the lack of local accessories just makes this a frustrating product to own in NZL, other makers of robot vacs do more to supply the local market with a full range of products and accessories - EcoVacs do not do this.

Inconsistent performance
21 May 2023

I've had it for about 10 months now. The robot is very capable: it is robust, cleans well, overcomes obstacles... But only sometimes. The really inconsistent behavior drives me MAD!The good part: It has fully mapped the house and it excels at its task, zipping through all rooms then returning to its station. It overcomes obstacles (doorsill) and avoids dynamic obstacles (dog toys, moving chairs). After a few uses it's really easy to get long hairs unstuck from its brush, and it tells you when it needs to have its sensors cleaned. The mop is also easy to use and clean. The bad part: It only seem to work correctly half the time! For many times it will not go over a 20mm doorsill that it very easily overcame many times before; It will get stuck on doorsills; It will forget how to handle chair legs and take way too long to move around; It will randomly decide not to clean half of a room; It will randomly decide to stop a cleaning task, dropping some rooms; And the worst offender of it all - sometimes the app will forget the entire map, requiring you to re-map the house! But it doesn't get completely forgotten, sometimes it will switch up between previously built map versions, so it actually keep hidden versions of the house map in its memory. Some of them are incomplete, some of them become bugged, it's a mess. This robot is easy to use and maintain, has good hardware and could be amazing, but looks like it has serious software issues. Would not recommend.

Worth every penny!

I saw an independent review highlighting this as the best on the market. It is a lot of money to spend but I can honestly say that this is the best that I have owned, and I have owned a few different ones already! Previous ones that I have owned in the past advertise that they are "smart" and that they clean in a systematic way but they haven't done - they have been like headless chickens scooting about, cleaning the same areas over and over and getting stuck, my previous one would even die mid-clean even though it had over half of it's battery life left. No such issues with this one... Firstly, setting it up was a doddle. Simply plug in the dock and switch that on, switch on the docked robot vac and download the app. Scan the QR code on the robot vac and that effectively pairs the robot vac with the app. After a couple of updates - one of which to the firmware, another to the camera, it was good to go. It will start by constructing a virtual map of the entire floor (I have it running on the upstairs floor of my house as it is the largest area) - it does this my making its way around the edges of the cleaning area and drawing up barriers and obstacles as it goes - it also cleans whilst doing this. If set to, it will automatically ramp up the power to get across carpet and thicker rugs but across hard flooring it will get across very quickly. What I like about it is that it really is intelligent. For example... 1) If it doesn't run into a barrier (so, leaving an area uncleaned) it will still go back and get over to that area to clean and continue filling in the gaps on the virtual map. 2) Another feature that I really like is that it will go up and down in tight parallel lines doing 180 turns to ensure that it covers the entire area and it does a great job of edge-cleaning (see the attached video). 3) Lastly, unlike my previous robot vacuum cleaner it doesn't keep going until it crashes into something, once it has worked out the barrier and cleaned that edge it will stop short of that. The app works well as well. Allowing you to monitor it in real-time. You can also set boundaries on the constucted map (see the red box in the image). I marked a barrier here to stop it (albeit, temporarily) from going into the lounge as the kids play in there and the dog relaxes in there. The area covered and duration can be tracked in here as well as the battery life left on the robot vac. The battery life is impressive! It cleaned the whole area that I needed it to and still had well over half it battery left in it. Another feature that I like is the ability of it to act like a roaming security camera. You can send it to various rooms to check what is or has happened in there. We have used it to spy on the dog a couple of times but he usually keeps well out of the way! Still, it's a very nice to have! The mopping function, I am yet to explore but I will update this review should I decide that I need to use this. This is the only review that I have ever written on an item purchased on eBay and probably my most detailed review ever but that is only because I am so impressed with this. It is worth every penny.

Included with the robot is the Auto-Empty Station, which has an infrared signal emitter to help the DEEBOT dock, auto-empty inlets where the dustbin’s contents go when the station is initiated, a dust bag under the top lid, and an indicator light. Thepower cord wrap that’s built into the backis a nice touch that I appreciate because ithelps with hiding the power cord. Both the DEEBOT and Auto-Empty Station are verywell designed.Setup:Under the top cover is a paper insert that has the steps to get started. I found them to be helpful and easy to follow. Basically, all that’s required is to remove the protectors, install the side brushes, place the Auto-Empty Station in the desired location, put the DEEBOT on the station, power it on, download the app, scan the QR code on the DEEBOT, then finish the on-screen instructions. Within minutes, my DEEBOT was ready to go. Setup was seamless from start to finish. I always appreciate an easy setup process.Performance:The DEEBOT is impressively efficient. It doesn’t just roam aimlessly and change directions when it bumps into a wall or object. It maps out the room, moves in straight lines when it makes sense to do so, knows where it has been, and covers nearly every inch of the floor. It’s even able to make it over a somewhat high transition strip that’s between my laundry room and living room. I’ve inspected its work after multiple uses and couldn’t spot anything significant left behind. My wife and I have a cat, so we were hoping this would help pick up hair throughout the week instead of it accumulating prior to our normal cleaning day, and it does a fantastic job of doing that. It’s also helpful for the inevitable kitchen messes after preparing/eating meals. Looking at the clean floor after it’s done and seeing how full the dustbin gets is quite satisfying. The Auto-Empty Station eliminates the need to manually empty the dustbin after each use, but I do have to occasionally check the dustbin because pet hair sometimes gets caught. When the DEEBOT transitions to carpet, it recognizes the difference and increases suction automatically. Even with the higher suction engaged, it still operates quietly. The only time it gets loud like a full-size vacuum is when the dustbin is emptying at the Auto-Empty Station. A lot of our flooring is hardwood, but several rooms are carpeted, and the cleaning effectiveness on the carpet is just as impressive as it is on the hardwood. I wouldn’t say it can replace a standard vacuum, but it certainly helps keep my carpeted rooms cleaner than they’d normally be. Whether I tell the DEEBOT to just do certain rooms or the entire first floor of my house, the battery lasts a long time. On average, it can get up to three hours of runtime on one charge. The mopping capability for hard floors is a great bonus, but it’s not perfect. As I mentioned, a large portion of my flooring is hardwood, so having the mop helps keep the hardwood cleaner than just a vacuum would. However, mopping just involves a wet cloth getting dragged across the floor as the DEEBOT is also vacuuming, so I wouldn’t say it’s deep cleaning by any means. Although it’s better than vacuuming alone, I wish the mopping cloth spun or vibrated to scrub the floor a little more than it does. My other wish is that it was acceptable to use a cleaning solution instead of just water. The instructions specifically recommend purified water. There’s no mention of a cleaning solution, so I’ve just assumed it’d be best to stick with water, in case using a cleaning solution somehow causes damage. Despite those wishes, I still like the mopping capability because it does a pretty good job of preventing grime buildup on the floor. Overall, this DEEBOT has the smarts and performance to deliver nearly perfect vacuuming, but I think the mopping performance is just moderate.App Features:General controls, like starting, pausing, or stopping a cleaning job can all be done in the app. Additionally, there are plenty of more advanced features available in the app as well, such as cleaning schedules, a cleaning sequence (order in which rooms will be cleaned), the ability to select a specific room or area to be cleaned, virtual boundaries, adjustable vacuum power or water flow level, and more. If you have Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant devices, the DEEBOT can even be controlled with your voice. It’s a feature-rich app that makes the DEEBOT experience both user friendly and convenient.Verdict:Where the DEEBOT OZMO T8+ falls short is mopping. While it’s cool to have a robot vacuum that mops at the same time, I think the word “mop” should be loosely used in this case. It’s more like a wipe. I might eventually try the add-on mopping accessory with high-frequency vibration that can be purchased separately, but I wish that was already an included feature and that cleaning solution could be used instead of just water. I think this DEEBOT is mainly designed to be a vacuum though, so with that in mind, there’s no denying that the DEEBOT OZMO T8+ is an innovative and effective robot vacuum. It accurately maps out the floor, knows where it’s been and where it still needs to go so that a spot doesn’t get missed and time isn’t wasted. The feature-rich app enables highly customizable cleaning, like schedules, virtual boundaries, or even the ability to tell it a specific area within a room to go clean. The icing on the cake is the included Auto-Empty Station that empties the dustbin automatically after each cleaning job. I’m happy to report that the robot vacuuming experience has been nearly perfect and for that, it deserves my recommendation and a five-star, “Excellent” rating

[Rewarded Review] Great Features!
26 October 2020

I purchased my DEEBOT OZMO T8 after seeing a great deal for this model with the auto-dispense bin from Best Buy. I was in the market after getting a new pup that sheds all over the place (but I'll also own up to all the human hair in the house). The DEEBOT can just barely vacuum the entire house in 1 charge (about ~1000 sq. ft) for me but I've also seen it charge and resume. It keeps my house clean of hair and debris with it's auto-scheduled cleaning so I don't have to think much about it other than maintaining the dust bin and filters and removing any hair from the rollers. There are replacement parts available on the market so that's a great plus.My main gripes about this vacuum is that the auto-dispense bin does not work well unless you get new bags (which can ... MoreI purchased my DEEBOT OZMO T8 after seeing a great deal for this model with the auto-dispense bin from Best Buy. There are replacement parts available on the market so that's a great plus.My main gripes about this vacuum is that the auto-dispense bin does not work well unless you get new bags (which can add up in cost). I tried vacuuming the house every other day to reduce the amount of hair the robot needs to auto-dispense but that has not helped in my case. I think it will take a careful balance of emptying the dust-bin bags and vacuuming frequency to get the perfect automated cleaning schedule but that's just too much coordination in my opinion. The second gripe is the mopping function. I haven't figured out how to properly integrate a mopping routine with the vacuum routine since my house has carpets that will block the robot from passing through in order to mop all the non-carpeted surfaces in my house. It also takes a bit more manual work to fill the reservoir and install the mopping pad. I hear good things about the mopping attachment that is $99 however I wish they would have just included it from the beginning instead of providing the current mopping feature.

[Rewarded Review] Still learning, but loving it!!

We just started using this about a week ago, and have had a great experience so far. This is my first robot, and I’m the exact opposite of being a techie, so there’s been a steep learning curve on my part regarding setting it up and getting a good map to work from. We have a large home with carpets, hard wood, time, and area rugs. My biggest lessons learnt deal with taking the time to get a great map the first time you use it. I ended up making multiple maps and through trial and error I think I’ve now perfected the process. Biggest lesson: Dock on hardwood or tile if you have carpeting, because otherwise the robot will be “stuck” and can’t leave its dock when you put it into mopping mode, because it’s programmed to “avoid” carpets while in mopping mode, so don’t ... MoreWe just started using this about a week ago, and have had a great experience so far. I ended up making multiple maps and through trial and error I think I’ve now perfected the process. Biggest lesson: Dock on hardwood or tile if you have carpeting, because otherwise the robot will be “stuck” and can’t leave its dock when you put it into mopping mode, because it’s programmed to “avoid” carpets while in mopping mode, so don’t make the same mistake as me and spend time mapping from a carpeted docking point. Also, take the time to remove chairs, area rugs, or anything else that isn’t permanent in your furniture setup - that way it gets a great view of what is permanent - it can then adjust for chairs and area rugs on individual cleaning. Also, when you’re getting used to the App, don’t touch it much while it’s mapping - I made the mistake of moving chairs around the house while it was mapping, only to accidentally click the wrong button on the app when it was on its way to return to the docking station, and I lost my entire map and had to do it all again - talk about stressful. That being said, wait for a nice day out so you can just put all of your chairs (or baby gear in my case), outside on your deck, so you don’t have to race the robot around your house moving things while it maps. Also, don’t be afraid to pause it while it maps. Separately, I had trouble figuring out how to customize room names, etc - the trick is that you must first wait to finish a complete map (which means that unless you have all hard flooring, that you need to map in vacuum mode (and not mopping) mode, and then you can go back and mop after you’ve fully mapped). After you finish mapping, it then activates another part of the App where you can name rooms, and set up a cleaning schedule. All in all, I love our robot, and have had a great experience.

[Rewarded Review] Terrible unit- Do not buy from Ecovacs!
30 March 2023

I have had this unit for 2 years now, and it's been a constant struggle to get it to clean and empty properly. The whole point of a robotic vacuum is to make your life easier, not harder! I spent the extra money to get the self-empty feature, and if you have dogs, this is really useless. I can't say if it would really work or not without the dog hair, but it's easily clogged and never empties for me, forcing me to manually empty every day. The unit also cannot reliably dock itself. It tries for like 15 minutes every day, and 90% of the time cannot dock itself. The unit also constantly loses the map you created. Rebuidling the map and relabeling it in order to use the area clean feature is a time-consuming matter. Given that this happens regularly, it's unacceptable. ... MoreI have had this unit for 2 years now, and it's been a constant struggle to get it to clean and empty properly. These latter 2 problems seem to have gotten markedly worse with the software updates, as it was not always this badSo far as Ecovacs customer support goes, they do respond quickly by email, but offer no real solutions to the problems. For a unit that's some $800, I expect better performance and longevity than this. Ecovacs did offer me a discount on a new unit, but with this track record and the fact that they offer no fix for the existing problems with this unit, I have no interest in ever dealing with this company again.
