An incredible guitar!!!

Overall:Where to start?! First off the most obvious is the finish. I was interested in the OD green, but was curious how it would look in person versus the picture. All I can say is WOW! The binding really pops with the green. Second, I haven’t weighed it yet but this one is on the heavier sides of semi-hollow bodies which I think gives it a better tone. Third, the neck is a rounded C closer to the 50’s style, which fits my large hands perfectly! It did require some minor adjustments for the set up the fretboard was a little dry but that’s usually the case with imports. Epiphone has really stepped up their game in the past few years and I’m all for it! You will NOT be disappointed with this one!

I've had my raspberry burst ES-335 for almost 4 months now, and while I'm overall satisfied with my purchase, it wasn't all perfect off the shelf. First the positives: the guitar's body panels have very generous flame patterns for a mass-produced import model. Perhaps they were more selective for these LE runs. The online pictures are pretty true to the actual color of the guitar, and there aren't any paint issues on mine. The stock pickups are fantastic and if it weren't for the fact that a friend has offered to give me a set of Gibson pickups, I wouldn't even bother changing them out. They will offer plenty of chime, warmth, cream, or grit for you to dial into, so unless you want a little more dirt, you might be able to save yourself the hassle of swapping ... MoreI've had my raspberry burst ES-335 for almost 4 months now, and while I'm overall satisfied with my purchase, it wasn't all perfect off the shelf. They will offer plenty of chime, warmth, cream, or grit for you to dial into, so unless you want a little more dirt, you might be able to save yourself the hassle of swapping pickups. Volume & tone knobs are responsive, the guitar holds tune after a few songs, and for a 6', average-build guy like me, this guitar feels extremely natural in my lap or hanging from a strap. The neck feels very similar to Epiphone's 58 Les Paul Standard or the IBG acoustic line, so it's slightly large, but by no means a baseball bat. I prefer my necks this way, though, so that's a positive in my book. Now for the not-so-great things. One cosmetic issue I noticed was that the binding is kind of splotchy near the neck heel. You'd have to be holding the guitar to notice it, but it's not too big to be an eyesore for me. Another issue is that one of the volume pot labels fell off suddenly. Not sure what caused it to fall off, but I've considered replacing all the knobs because I'm not exactly in love with their look, anyway. More egregiously, the fret work was somewhat lacking on this model within the upper register. The frets feel noticeably taller, and the edges don't appear to have been filed all the way. It doesn't render the guitar unplayable, but it's definitely something I plan to have corrected by a tech or luthier.Overall, this can be a wonderful guitar. Despite the flaws I pointed out, I'm happy with my purchase and don't mind taking the guitar to a highly skilled person to get it in perfect working order. The guitar sounds amazing, feels well-balanced and comfortable in playing position, and just looks so dang good! It's a well-designed package, just make sure to give yours a combover before you decide to settle.

The only reason for the 3 star rating is the work it needed. A brand new instrument may need a setup, but it shouldn't need repairs. More details below, but lets start with what was really good. This "Inspired by Gibson" model has some awesome improvements over prior models. The Kalamazoo styled headstock is really nice. It still has the same challenges as the Gibson models, but it has a much more refined look than its predecessors. Same thing with the pick guard. These two improvements provide a far more polished look to the final product. These features may seem small to some, but I appreciate them. The higher grade pots also result in a more professional feel and tone for the player. They don't have the same note separation or clarity as the T-Type, but they do have a warmer jazzy tone that I prefer, so I'm going to keep the pickups. On the "still not perfect side" of the conversation, many of these will require some additional work to get it in playable condition. Some reviewers have reported that they were perfect right out of the box, so it may be a hit and miss situation, but mine was a bit of a miss. I knew the issues were fixable, so I purchased it anyway. The factory setup was quite poor. There was far too much neck relief and the bridge was way too high. This wasn't a matter of simply not being set up the way I like my guitars. When I picked it up off the display, this one was unplayable. After fixing the relief and action, I found 2 dead frets. Not a buzz because the action was too low, but two completely dead frets (without bending). A fret level and crown was needed. My biggest critique is the fret ends were so sharp that I literally cut my finger on one. That had to be fixed. I had a professional do the fret repars and a full setup. Now, it plays flawlessly. One day I may end up replacing the bridge and tailpiece. They are fairly low quality, but on par with comparable instruments in this class. If you can do these types of repairs yourself or don't mind spending a little extra to have them done by a professional, this is a good value for most players and I would recommend it to my friends.

Gorgeous guitar

Added the Inverness Green one to my guitar collection as a father's day gift from me to me. The guitar is beautiful to look at and beautiful to play. The action was setup perfectly for me and the intonation is almost spot on; I'm not sure whether I'll mess with it until I restring it. The neck is perfectly straight and feels fairly narrow, and no sharp fret edges. The sound resonates beautifully through the hollow body. I have not played it through an amp or headphones yet but looking forward to that. Maybe. But there's very little difference in quality and playability when comparing my 2016 Gibson LP HP and this ES-335.The color is a delight even though I'm not a fan of greens. Unless it's money. The finish is flawless, it looks like it was dipped into a vat of green and is still wet.I bought this as I saw a dude playing Metallica's Battery on one and yes I am playing metal on it. You're not metal til you play metal on a half hollow. My only gripes are that there was no hardcase (it was packaged really, really well), and the B string is maybe a hair too low to the frets. Other than that, perfect and no stars deducted.

It's true what they say about these Epiphone guitars!

I'd been looking at the "Inspired By Gibson" Epiphones online for some time, particularly the ES-335. I've read and heard some great things about them and I ended up buying a limited edition Raspberry Burst Figured Top model right off the Guitar Center wall. As others have said, while these Epi 335s are not Gibsons they are as close as you can get at this or even a higher price point. To my hands and ears there's just not anywhere near an additional $3k+ in playability and performance to be had by buying the Gibson headstock over the Epiphone. The build and finish quality on this guitar is as good as it gets, the pickups are surprisingly good, I have no plans to switch anything out on this guitar. The neck is a gloss finish but not in the least bit sticky or tacky, the C-shape is very comfortable for my hands - not slim but not too chunky either. Off the GC wall all it needed was a slight truss rod tweak and adjustment to the action. Frets were ok but they but could use a polish. It's one of the best playing guitars I have and it's hard to put down. If you're considering a semi-hollow 335-style you'll definitely want to check out the Epiphones - amazing value for a well-built guitar, I love this one and it's never made me feel that I've "settled for a lesser instrument". My thanks to Anthony at the Portsmouth NH store for all your help!

Overall:This is my first semi-hollow guitar after 30+ years of Les Pauls, SG's and Strats. Man, am I ever surprised. I wanted to try an affordable ES guitar before I spent major bucks on another Gibson. The playability, the tones, the looks and the quality are all top notch here. I bought the Olive Drab model, which looks killer, and although it excels in all styles of music, it seems most at home churning out big, dirty rock chords. I've played it thru my Katana and my Marshall JCM and it just sounds fantastic. These Alnico Classic Pro pickups, Clean or with some generous gain, just sound FANTASTIC. This ES-335 has led me to second guess a few of my past expensive Gibson purchases. Every thing I could have wanted from a new, semi-hollow guitar is right here. No need to spend thousands for a different name on the headstock. From the new Epiphone lineup I now own the new IBGC '59 Les Paul (with Custombuckers), the Adam Jones Les Paul Custom and now this ES-335, and these three guitars will easily hold their own against anything that Gibson USA is putting out these days. I plan on putting some serious miles on this guitar.

Back in the 90s I had an Epiphone Casino from the late 70s, which was a joy to play. It's long since gone and I was hankering after something with that vibe again. I wasn't taken by any of the current range of Casinos and I'd always fancied a 335, so that's what I went for. I chose this model for the burst finish. My Casino was a lovely aged tobacco burst, which I actually preferred, but the finish on this guitar is great and it does look the business! The construction of this guitar can't be faulted. Everything is neat and assembled well. All the pots are straight and true, and set equal height from the body, which I can't say was true for other recent Epi's I've seen. The finishing on the fret ends is good, save for a couple that needed rounding over a little. ... MoreBack in the 90s I had an Epiphone Casino from the late 70s, which was a joy to play. The finishing on the fret ends is good, save for a couple that needed rounding over a little. But, from the box the fret surfaces are rough so they needed a good polish with some wire wool, which I've done. So far, I've not found any dead/flat spots, but that brings me to my next point... the action and setup from the factory is really quite high IMO. It's playable, but the nut needs some work and I intend to lower the action at the bridge by about 40%-50%, which is considerable. If you're someone that's not comfortable doing your own setups, I'd suggest factoring in having a full setup done to your liking after purchase. Of course, if you're a slide player, then no issues! The guitar sounds great and the pickups respond well to rolling back the volume to clean things up on those bluesy tones you're likely after if you buy this guitar. The neck is chunkier than I expected, but certainly comfortable and, again, finished well on the back. Tuning stability is OK - just the usual G string going a bit flat after aggressive bending (with stretched strings) but nothing I'd say is a problem at all.I've not had the guitar long enough to speak about it's durability, but given the construction and feel of it, I've rated it as "good". It may well turn out to be excellent. If Epiphone did a 'relic' version of this in a tobacco burst, I'd buy another one!

I played the store demo and was deeply disappointed. I had already ordered the guitar online and was waiting for delivery when I saw the guitar at my local GC. I asked to look at it and to use it to find a suitable case (the Epiphone case is excellent). The input jack was falling off, there was dust all over the guitar, the frets were rough, and guitar was just not easy to play. When mine arrived, I opened it to find an immaculate ES-335. It was comfortable to play and in almost every way excellent. The figured maple on the left side comes out in the light at certain angles, but the color and figuring is beautiful. I was extremely impressed. Glad I purchased this on sale. What a great deal from GC on a superbly made guitar. Even the sales associate at GC was duly impressed. The tones are just what I wanted from a semi-hollow, but the humbuckers, while very good, were not as hot and full as the humbuckers on my Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. Still, the pick-ups are very, very good. The build quality is solid, which was very surprising as a Chinese-made guitar. The quality control at the factory must be pretty reliable. This guitar is worth way more than what I paid for it. If you get one, I hope yours is just as amazing.

good for the money, one significant issue

This was for my son, a late beginner, to add to his Ibanez s521. This was ordered online, not bought off the wall. It comes very well packaged for shipment and arrived with zero scratches or damage. The strings that it has are actually OK and I may keep them for a bit. I am not a huge fan of the gold metallic but it is the kid's preference, and the finish seems nice. I did not see much of the paint covering part of the binding in places as some have remarked, and the binding seems to be pretty decently done. The only really startling indicator of low build quality on ours is the very rough finish on the insides of the f holes. There are places that the paint has small runs in it and you can tell there was cost savings. The only really startling indicator of low build quality on ours is the very rough finish on the insides of the f holes. There are places that the paint has small runs in it and you can tell there was cost savings. There are guitars in the price category that are much better finished in there and I would have gladly paid a couple of extra bucks for this. At least they could have painted it black on the sides of the holes, like they did on some of the other colors, to hide it somewhat. On the gold, it is just jarring. I may do just that, after it is out of warranty of course. It is sad because there aren't any other significant issues on mine. The fret ends seem pretty nice and there really isn't any lifting, sprout, or sharpness on any of them. I am intermediate, so I can't really say authoritatively how the tone compares to others objectively, but to my ears it sounds pretty good especially compared to some others in the price range, like the stock Ibanez pickups. Seem to have clarity and not muddy. Like the neck profile. Neck required a slight loosening of the truss rod to straighten and the action was easily lowered to 1.5mm at the 12th fret low e without significant buzzing. The treble bleed does its job and single coil option is nice too. It won't sound like my strat but it does give some versatility. The guitar is very fun to play with its neck profile and radius once I did my mild setup on it, and hard to explain, but I don't want to put it down once I start using it. Despite the one flaw, I still think it is a good buy and recommended.

what a beautiful guitar.

I like this guitar and am pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fret work. they are smooth, even, with no high or low spots, no buzzing and not sharp edges. way better than my other Epiphones. It plays well and feels well. The one thing I am not sure about is it seems to not have tuning stability. I seem to have to tune this often whilst playing and it sounds out of tune even though it is tuned, and the intonation is pretty close. a couple strings are a touch high at the 12th fret. Neck seems straight to my eye so I'm not sure what the deal is but other than sounding slightly out of tune all the time I do like this guitar and am impressed with the quality of it. action height is nice also. it seems set up well.
