Part of the D'Addario percussion line, Evans provide an extensive range of the highest quality drum heads for snare, bass drum, toms, timpani, marching snare, congas, bongos and timbale. Famed for their efficiency and durability in a live setting, as well as their sound quality and tonal response in a studio setting, they are one of the leading brands of drum heads amongst drummers today. Evans have been innovating in the drum world for over 60 years and were the first company to offer synthetic (non animal skin) heads to drummers. These days they pin their reputation on their Level 360 technology which they claim offers the best connection with the bearing edge of any drum head and consequently the most consistent tuning. A perfect blend of depth, sustain, and attack the G2 is a two-ply head (7mil each) featuring extraordinary consistency and durability. Its versatility makes it a perfect choice for the working drummer who switches between styles. It makes rack toms sing and floor toms growl. Similar in style to a Remo Emperor. View our full range of tom heads here. This tom head is clear which give its more attack and top end than it's coated counterpart.

Correction to my previous bad review

Hey, I'm sorry. I put in a scathing review on the Evans G2 clear head shortly after I tried it. The problem is, I didn't know that a two ply head needs to be tuned tighter than a single ply. Then I checked the recommended settings that came with my DrumDial indicator, which corrected my thinking. It needs to be higher, like 75 to 77. (I had been using 71 to 73 for my single ply batter head.) Once I tuned it as the indicator recommended, I was happy with the results. I am now ordering one for my 13" tom (the first was for my 16"). A thread on the internet reviews recommended using a single ply on the small toms, so I will probably try a G1 clear single ply on my 10" tom.I was impressed that this head required no gaffers tape for muting, and seems easy to tune. Overall:Just put these on my toms for my Ludwig power accent kit. They sound great, dramatically improved the sound from the stock heads that came with the kit. Tuning was simple, no bad overtones coming from them. I have the stock reso heads on but am going to put some Evans on to really bring out the sound. I would definitely recommend these for anyone. As always, zZounds was awesome, I wont shop anywhere else.

Evans heads are fantastic. G2's on toms sound great to me. Paired with G1's or G12's they can achieve a really nice open, singing sound that's great for any style in my opinion. I play heavier music and these heads are a great standard if you're looking for something with no muffling.

Friendly Advice.

To the drummer stating that one must tune a 2 ply batter head tighter than a one ply batter head. That is not always true. A lot of factors will come into play. Example. Shell ply thickness, shell depth.Shell material and the angle of bearing edge degree to name a few. My drums are Pearl masters Birch Studio. I have used nearly every head type available to us and I can assure you this. Nearly every head type will give your kit a different voice. I would like to suggest that you take your visual tuning device and place it in a drawer and try listening with your ears to tune and not your eyes. Also don't be timid on tuning these heads low. Just get them tight and apply a little pressure with the palm of your hand to the middle of each drum.Do this to your bottom heads ... MoreTo the drummer stating that one must tune a 2 ply batter head tighter than a one ply batter head. Heads that sound great, but won't last!

I try to experiment with different drum heads. I want to find drumheads that are durable, fairly inexpensive, and sound great! I wanna help you with the same so here's my review. This was my first time getting the G2s. When I first put them on I was amazed because they really sounded great. I also forgot to mention earlier, I am a harder hitting drummer so that's why I seek durability in a drumhead. Anyways, after about 3 weeks of using them now I'm starting to notice a lot of pitting, which upsets me a bit because I really enjoy these heads. This is of course a problem because I don't have the extra money laying around to replace these heads often. My overall review. They are worth a try. I still recommend the Remo Pinstripes over these, if you like a head like this, just because the Pinstripes are a lot more durable and sound really good.

I was disappointed
2 May 2013

My tom drums have Keller VSS 6 ply maple shells with the bearing edges custom formed by Portland custom drum maker Jeff Kirsch (awesome quality!) To my memory, he had recommended Evans G1 coated heads, which I have had on my toms for a long time. I thought I could improve the tone with the G2 clear, but I am disappointed almost beyond words. A single thickness head can resonate, but a dual thickness head appears to give a thud, but not much tone. I tried a looser tuning and then a medium tuning. Both were unacceptable to my ear. I re-installed the G1 coated, and I am content with that sound. (Hint: with a drum dial tuner, the G1 sounds good with a tension of 71 on the batter, and 73 on the resonant heads. Try tighter if you want more boing and less Indian tom ... MoreMy tom drums have Keller VSS 6 ply maple shells with the bearing edges custom formed by Portland custom drum maker Jeff Kirsch (awesome quality!) I admit I resisted using Evans again. I've used them before with OK results. But I ended up trying Level 360 clear G2s as tom batters and clear Level 360 G1s as resos. Immediate improvement. The drums came to life like never before. The toms tuned up quickly and easily. I also have a power center reverse dot on the snare and a clear GMAD on the kick. I've finally found my sound!

New Favorite Tom Head!
9 December 2013

Believe folks I have tried just about every head out there on my kits, including Remo, Aquarian and Evans and finally landed on the G2 batters over the Resonant Glass heads on my 74 Rogers Holiday kit. I tend to tune a bit low for that thick, attack filled thud and these have been the best at getting this sound. I admit that they are very close in tone to the clear emperors which I like a lot also but there was just something extra that I got from the G2 clear batters that I didn't get with any other heads out there. I also tried the coated G2 batters and didn't like them as much. They didn't have as much life as the clears. If you have an older kit that is finicky to tune and are looking for something to maybe end your tom head search then give these a try. I mainly tune by ear, but as a reference try tunebot or idrumtech numbers of 146 over 174 for a 12x8 tom and about 103 over 110 for a 16x16 floor tom. Since I landed on these heads and these approximate tunings, I now play more than I experiment or tune! Give it a try!

Sounding Good.
10 May 2012

I have the 9pc Rocker set that Ludwig put out in the 80's and it is a pretty nice kit. I have never been able to find a head that would make the drums sound good until I came across the Evans heads. I use the G2 for the batter and the G1 for the reso. I should also mention that my kit is the Rocker "Power Plus" which means that the drums are longer than standard. This allows the deeper resonant sound that can be good or bad depending how you tune. Striking the Evans set-up gives a powerful punch sound which is just a little loud for the basement so I use the "Remo" dampening rings with the drums and with that they sound just great. I did get the G1-G2 set for one drum (13") before getting the other sizes just to make sure I wouldn't be stuck with alot of heads that ... MoreI have the 9pc Rocker set that Ludwig put out in the 80's and it is a pretty nice kit. Worst Tom head experience I've ever had
14 November 2021

Maybe it was just me but I bought a brand new Tama birch/mahogany kit and I wanted to replace the stock g2's with fresh ones. I've never had a worse experience with a head before. The tuning was terrible. The sound was awful. I thought for a while my toms were possibly warped because I could never get them to tune well or sound good. Replaced them with Remo controlled sound clear and my goodness, night and day difference. They tuned so easy. The sound exploded off of them. Maybe it was bad heads I got but I will NEVER buy Evans Tom heads again. I still like some of the Evans snare batters. Giving 2 stars because the 16" sounded ok. But the 10" and 12" were the worst experience with Tom heads I've had.
