I've been wanting to love this grinder, but the reality is I'm tired of having to clean up coffee grinds every time I use it. The grinder does a abysmal job of getting the grounds into the receiver cup, they get all over the lid, tray and your counter. Then when you remove the receiver, more grounds invariably fall out of the grinder itself and get everywhere. Perhaps most frustrating, when you go to wipe everything down, the button is on the front of the device so you end up tapping it 50% of the time and yep, you guessed it, more grinds everywhere. While this thing grinds coffee well, as a Prodcut design company, I would have thought that Fellow would have done a better job of deigning this product for ease of use.One other note is that the flu is not set at a ... MoreI've been wanting to love this grinder, but the reality is I'm tired of having to clean up coffee grinds every time I use it. SO while the kettle plug is nice and flush, the grinder one sticks out and regularly rests up against the hot kettle and it’s eventually going to get compromised by the heat.

The Fellow Ode Gen 2 is a great filter grinder. Quiet, consistent, great features like the anti static deioniser to keep the usual mess in check. I bought this because I wanted low fuss, fresh ground coffee in the morning. It sits solid on the bench in a nice matte black finish. It’s so quiet, you can’t even tell it’s running until you put the beans in. Most importantly my wife approves. Magnetic alignment of the cup is cool. The lid for the cup was noted to be a bit of a loose fit on the James Hoffman review, but I haven’t found that at all - it’s a nice fit.

Easily the best change I've made for my home filter coffee bar. The basic benefits over a hand grinder are obvious, and this is the perfect grinder for someone looking to achieve a high level from their pour-over, aeropress or other filter brews.I weighed this grinder largely against the Lagom Mini, and for someone not looking to do espresso at home, but still wanting something on the upper end of the value proposition with Australian support, this is certainly the one, especially now that the new burrs fix concerns with grind size on the gen1.30g grind times on light roasts are excellent, with no stalling or issues, and the noise is low enough to not wake anyone up at 5am (genuinely surprised). Worst retention I've detected is around 0.5-0.3G so far, and this ... MoreEasily the best change I've made for my home filter coffee bar. Worst retention I've detected is around 0.5-0.3G so far, and this came back to 0g every time after using the knocker and RDT, very impressive. The Iced V60 brews I have achieved on this grinder has swayed my partner into not only drinking black coffee, but demanding it almost daily, Couldn't recommend it highly enough it you have the budget and no future plans for espresso at home.

I’ve been using the Fellow Ode for the past moth and have grown quite the fondness for this machine. For those with a conical grinder, you will be amazed how fast this grinds a 15g dose! Less than 5 seconds. Highly recommend a RDT spray to reduce static mess down to almost none. Bonus, if you own a Fellow Opus grinder, you can use the Opus plastic cup. It’s also magnetic and the exact same size without those internal fins. Some reviews mention frustrations with the metal version. 10/10 grinder for filter.
I upgraded from a Wilfa Svart and the difference to me is huge. I’m still working out where to dial beans in for use with my Moccamaster but the grinds are really consistent and i’ve not had a bad cup even if I can tell I haven’t cracked the code yet. Filter bed is always flat and no bouldering as with the Wilfa. It looks cool, is quiet and grinds the coffee really well. There is some retention and it can be a little bit messy but i’d rather it was spilling fines and chaff easily from the machine rather than retaining it all inside. I’m really happy with this, i may upgrade the burrs eventually but out of the box the coffee tastes great. Excellent service from Coffee Hit as usual.
Unbelievably disappointing purchase from Crate & Barrel! The grinder is listed as a for sale item during Black Friday sale, and I ordered it for my husband as a Christmas gift. However, when we received it this morning, the product box is severely damaged and the bottom of the grind is also chipped. We immediately called the customer service for exchange, but shockingly, we were told no refund or excusable for final sale. This is also the last unit in the warehouse. So, Carte & Barrel listed a damaged product on the website and marked it as final sale. This is very disappointing and will never purchase any products from Crate and Barrel again! Be ware of any for sale item on Caret & Barrel, because they are damaged product to deceive customers in the holiday seasons!
Took extremely long to get. I am talking four weeks. The tracking number they gave me was different from shipping company so I was never able to track or know when shipment arrived. The gen 1 grinder does not produce a fine enough grind for light roasted beans and French press. Using high quality fresh roasted beans. I am at three and the brew while not bad doesn’t taste fully extracted and weak with some bitterness. Wondering if I can even make a good v60. Hopefully if I dial in more I will get better flavor. Thinking of upgrading burrs but then we are talking about turning a 300 dollar grinder into a five hundred dollar grinder. The good, will most certainly look nice in any kitchen if you rdt bean retention is almost non existent. Slow customer service. I have a bitter taste in my mouth and its not just from the coffee grinder.
First, the good: the ground coffee that the Ode produces is the best I've produced at home, and makes my brew taste demonstrably better. But now for everything else. I need that coffee when I'm done, because using the Ode produces a dull throb right behind the temples every time.Beans don't slide from the hopper into the feed tube on their own, so you'll be poking them down continuously from all sides. You'll use a wooden chopstick for poking because a plastic one would leave shards in the coffee when it gets caught in the burrs, as it occasionally does. For that reason, you definitely won't be using a metal tool or your fingers. The machine turns itself off anywhere between two and five times for every grind, but continues running at the end despite the touted ... MoreFirst, the good: the ground coffee that the Ode produces is the best I've produced at home, and makes my brew taste demonstrably better. But now for everything else. For that reason, you definitely won't be using a metal tool or your fingers. The machine turns itself off anywhere between two and five times for every grind, but continues running at the end despite the touted auto-shutoff. So you'll be using one hand to stick-poke the beans down and one hand to keep turning it back on. What you won't be doing is anything else at all in the kitchen while this is happening. The knocker is useless at removing leftover grinds immediately after use, but the machine will later poop a little pile of them into the cup. They would just fall onto the ill-fitting rubbery plastic cup cap, but you've removed that because it does nothing but get in the way. Hopefully you'll remember to chuck them before your next grind, but sometimes you won't.The burrs are often nice and clean, though, because you'll be disassembling the Ode with a screwdriver pretty frequently to clear jams. It's more sensitive than a mean-girl middle schooler. You'll keep a Phillips head in the bucket of spatulas on the counter, because it's easier than digging through the junk drawer to find it.Long story short, you'll enjoy that coffee, but you're gonna need it.
Some context, this is my second Ode. The first one died after about a year of use normal use. After quite a bit of wrangling with Fellow on chat, in frustration I called up their store in SF and worked through them (amazing). They thankfully sent out a new unit. That is indeed cool. The problem is that the unit, in general, is still not great-great. The build quality IS excellent; the fit and feel are really good. The issue is with some of the functionality. For one, the bean hopper's angle pitch is off, which creates a situation where your beans have to be manually, by hand, nudged in for grinding. The other issue is the unit - both of them - inexplicably just turn off. The pattern of turning off is not consistent - sometimes its during very light grinding with a few beans trickling in - beeps and turns off. Sometimes during heavy grinding - beeps and turns off. Its a small nuance but you want a $250 grinder to really just grind, not be persuaded to grind. Like, you want it to feel as if the machine wants to grind, like its waiting to grind in the morning. This unit continually makes excuses, not truly relishing in the joys of its single function - grinding.
I used a Cuisinart Burr Mill for 10 years and decided it was time for an upgrade. I bought the Ode coffee grinder thinking it would be a countertop beauty. Boy, was I wrong! Eight months in, I’m doing the unthinkable - buying pre-ground coffee because using this thing is a nightmare. Here's why:Mess Machine: The grinder creates a coffee dust explosion every time. The tapered lid on the catch cup is a joke—grinds land on top and slide down, creating a mess that’s especially terrible in dry climates like Colorado. The static cling is out of control, there is NO seal between where the grinds fall down and the catch cup. In hindsight, obviously a recipe for disaster.Sticky Situation: To cut down on the mess, I switched to oily beans. Big mistake. In hindsight, obviously a recipe for disaster.Sticky Situation: To cut down on the mess, I switched to oily beans. Big mistake. They stick in the hopper, causing frequent clogs and turning the grinder into a disaster zone when trying to clear it. And if you accidentally hit the grind button while unclogging? Coffee chaos.Death Shakes: Occasionally, the grinder has a seizure, wobbling around and throwing grinds everywhere. It’s like it’s possessed. So much for the "super quiet" peaceful grinding experience I was excited for.I ignored the reviews about the mess, thinking, “How bad can it be?” Rookie mistake. After 8 months of trying to make it work, I’m reaching out to support for a refund or replacement. Don’t waste your money on this grinder. This is form without function at its finest.
