We got the Opus as part of our first espresso set-up. When functioning as intended, we loved it. It felt like a good value especially since we're not super into fancy espresso set-ups and let us grind our drip and cold brew without needing a whole other machine. It definitely can get grounds everywhere, but as long as we did a quick sweep every grind or two, it never got too bad. However, we have not been able to get a working machine for more than like two months. The first Opus we got was incorrectly calibrated- to grind espresso we needed to be at setting 5 or above, otherwise our espresso machine would get clogged. We determined with Fellow's help center that it needed to be returned and replaced. The second Opus was great as described above, until it broke. ... MoreWe got the Opus as part of our first espresso set-up. When functioning as intended, we loved it. Inner burr snapped off of its plastic supports, so rest in peace to our favorite Opus. We let Fellow know, and they very graciously replaced it for us. Except we got it today and it is also incorrectly calibrated, where grinding on setting 1 will just pour water from our espresso machine. The quality control in their factories must be nonexistent. In summary, one star because machine is good for its price in our opinion, one star for Fellow helping us out when we had issues, but no more because they cannot seem to consistently produce a working product.

I'll start with the few positive piecesPositives: it looks nice, the catch cup is a nice design and I like the magnet, it is rather quiet.Negatives: The guidance markings are meaningless and calibration of the machine is very poor.Understanding how to make adjustments is not intuitive and you'll either need a calculator, or some higher education to do it effectively (Luckily someone out there created an app to help).Grind settings appear to mean nothing - I have been trying to dial in my espresso and having gotten one almost there and made the grind 1 micro adjustment finer using the inner ring. I verified this measurement against the app. Going 1 micro adjustment finer should have increased brew time slightly, but lo and behold, it cut my brew time by 10 ... MoreI'll start with the few positive piecesPositives: it looks nice, the catch cup is a nice design and I like the magnet, it is rather quiet.Negatives: The guidance markings are meaningless and calibration of the machine is very poor.Understanding how to make adjustments is not intuitive and you'll either need a calculator, or some higher education to do it effectively (Luckily someone out there created an app to help).Grind settings appear to mean nothing - I have been trying to dial in my espresso and having gotten one almost there and made the grind 1 micro adjustment finer using the inner ring. Please make this make sense where going 1 finer somehow knocks 10 seconds off brew when keeping all other aspects of puck prep constant.I'll also note that it appears my machine is defective as the inner burr is wobbling when it is running. I currently have a warranty claim, but wish I could return it at this point. Unfortunately the espresso machine I had ordered arrived late and I've only just been able to try this out and it is past the 30 day return policy timeline.Would not recommend, I would return mine if I could. Please note: if by some miracle customer service is able to fix this through warranty I will update this rating, they have been responsive, albeit unhelpful suggesting that it is normal to see variations in brew time due to environmental conditions and fine adjustments.

The Fellow Opus is obviously intended to be visually appealing, which it achieves via its sleek, minimalist black (or white) design. Upon first impression, the plastic casing feels a bit cheap, but then the unit's weight indicates that the company focused the quality on the interior mechanisms instead. One of the things I most like about the unit is its quiet operation, which could even grind beans in the morning without waking other members of the household. Another positive aspect is that the grinding appears to be very consistent, and can be finely adjusted via the dial at the top.One negative element for me is the small size of the bean hopper at the top of the unit, which is only large enough to hold beans for one or two uses before it needs to be refilled. ... MoreThe Fellow Opus is obviously intended to be visually appealing, which it achieves via its sleek, minimalist black (or white) design. For some, this might be a positive, as it forces the user to keep the beans in their original bag until ready to be used, but for me storing the beans in an airtight hopper is as good as an airtight bag and much more convenient.Another negative is the grinding timer, which is configured by pressing the grinding button (bottom right) 1, 2, 3 or 4 times to grind for 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds. Firstly, when I grind for 60 seconds it almost fills up the grounds container, so being able to grind for much longer than that would overflow the container and seems excessive. Secondly, if one's taste in coffee means that you use an amount equal to 45 seconds of grinding, then it becomes difficult to grind the right amount of beans, and one tends to end up with leftover ground coffee (which then gets stale much faster than unground beans). So I would have preferred to see 6 15-second increments of grinding time rather than 4 30-second increments, or better yet some way of setting a specific number of grinding seconds (as they were able to do with the grind size).Overall, I'm happy with my new Opus grinder and look forward to many years of using it!Brian Cowhig

I don’t drink coffee but I have family members that do, and I’m the one who makes the coffee. I like that the machine has different grinding settings for depending on how you make your coffee. Cold brew, espresso, French press etc. The lid has a mini guide on it that helps figure out which setting to use based on how you make your coffee. It also doubles as a measuring cup, one side holds enough for one cup, the other size holds enough for a small batch, and the entire lid hold enough for a 12 cup batch of coffee. The machine is easy to use, one button starts and stops the machine. Depending on how many times you press that button at a time sets the grinding timer. Anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins max. You can remove the grinder core to clean it, however you can’t fully clean the machine. There’s still always going to be some bits of ground coffee inside. The manual says you can use a small brush to brush out some of the bits of coffee on the removable blade core, I think it would be nice to include a brush with the machine. The price is very high, about $200 and compared to the $20 coffee grinder we have. There’s a noticeable difference is the coffee we grind using this machine versus the one we had. I mean the fact that we can regulate grind settings changes everything. No more overgrinding coffee.
The Fellow OPUS gives you some custom or fine grind for any coffee or espresso top-performance product. I needed a good coffee grinder for home that makes beans into shredded for espresso and this top-of-the-line product really gets the job done. It is really quite when grinding the coffee beans. It has some really nice features. It comes with a single dose load bin, a grind adjustment ring, 40 MM stainless steel conical burrs, magnetic align catch and power button with timed auto stop. The timed auto stop comes with 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds and 2 minutes for timed grinding. One of the coolest features is when you put the cup into the grinder the magnet places the cup in position right away. A great feature that is top of the line for the best espresso that gives you the pump energy in the morning. I like the style and design how the grinder is all black and premium-looking. A really easy setup and the instructions were easy to follow and understand, it came in English, French, and Spanish. The product came nicely packed and organized. The manufacturer had one of the best packaging i’d ever seen. The box and packaging were very durable and fine. They really care about their items and look. The product comes with a 2-year warranty and if you register the manufacturer will add an additional 1-year coverage. That's not a bad deal. Also, it's very easy to clean out.
To preface my review, I’d decided to take some time to test out this product and to better familiarize myself with it in order to give it a fair review. Given that it was my first time using a coffee grinder, it didn’t seem fair to review it straight away until I was able to get the hang of it and to try to get the results that I want, at least.Getting the hang of the machine took a day or two as some things like aligning the arrow to the dot on the back of the machine in order for it to grind was something that I had to figure out after some time and was not listed in the manual. Others, like the top of the catcher cup included in the box but wasn’t listed in the product diagram, I was able to pop on after popping off the espresso attachment already in the ... MoreTo preface my review, I’d decided to take some time to test out this product and to better familiarize myself with it in order to give it a fair review. Others, like the top of the catcher cup included in the box but wasn’t listed in the product diagram, I was able to pop on after popping off the espresso attachment already in the catcher cup (an accidental discovery made while cleaning it). The anti-static top of the catcher cup is also implied/shown in an illustration or two in the manual/getting-to-know-you guide. The instruction manuals/getting to know you guide included as well as the video on the site showing you how to load up and grind your beans was particularly helpful. I momentarily misplaced my manuals so luckily I was able to locate them online. They included helpful tips on how to keep your coffee from tasting bitter/sour, which helped me to figure out how long to grind my beans, which setting to set the dial on the machine to (I use 7 for use in a drip coffee maker) - after a day or two of having sour-tasting coffee and later finding that I had been grinding my beans for too long, causing them to become too finely ground for my drip-filter coffee-making method. I usually only grind a small amount of beans, 2 or 3 tablespoons but I imagine this can fit more coffee than that. The grinder seemed a bit loud to me, but not as loud as a blender, for example. I’ve never used a grinder before so I have nothing else to compare the sound levels to.The anti-static/magnetic features of this appliance are a nice touch. They help to leave as little mess as possible as the ground up beans aren’t flying everywhere, and the magnets keep the catcher cup in place. Clean-up is simple (I just have to remember to brush the coffee grinds out of the grinder occasionally - keep the catcher cup under as cleaning or moving the grinder causes more of the coffee to fall out). It also boasts a nice and sleek minimalist design that doesn’t take up much space. All in all, my use of this machine has helped me to realize how much I actually enjoy drinking and making fresh coffee, so I do see myself using this more often. Thanks, Fellow and Influenster for giving me a chance to try out this item!

Which, after grinding, you would attach to your portafilter to transfer the grounds, allowing you to easily measure, grind, and transfer espresso beans straight into your espresso machines portafilter. Then you just insert the portafilter into your espresso machine, and voila! Freshly ground espresso! The portafilter dosing cup is compatible with both 54mm AND 58mm portafilters! And anyone that has ever used a grinder before knows how messy they can be and how static can cause grounds to stick and end up all over the place. The Opus features a magnetically aligned catch cup that snaps beneath the chute to ensure grounds fall nice and neat. It also features anti-static technology to help keep whatever you're grinding in the catch cup, where it's supposed to be, and prevent potential static from making messes. All in all, I really like my Fellow Opus Conical Burr Grinder. It works great, was super easy to use, has a massive possibility of grind options, and allowed me to finally be able to try this bag of whole bean coffee that I have had in my cupboard forever!Thank you, Fellow and Influenster, for a great, fresh cup of coffee!
I was incredibly excited to try this grinder, as I am very into making my own coffee at home as a hobby, and had actually previously looked into purchasing a Fellow grinder. I did not and opted for the slightly more expensive Baratza Virtuoso+, which currently retails for $249.95 (compared with $199 for this grinder at the time of posting). While I recognize that grinder is slightly more expensive, I am using it as a point of comparison as I believe both would appeal to similar consumers. In my opinion, the Virtuoso+ is better in both build quality and grind quality than the Opus. In addition, I felt that, although both grinders had 40 settings, the Virtuoso+ made for a smoother grinding experience. The one thing I did prefer with this grinder was the cleaning process, which was much simpler and easier to complete. While I recognize this isn’t Fellow’s top of the line grinder, they are still charging a high price point for it in my opinion. For the $200-250 range there’s simply there’s simply better grinders out there.
Thank you so much, Influenster and Fellow, for sending the Opus Conical Burr Grinder in exchange for an honest review. WOW!! This is the best coffee grinder on the market!! Opus includes a spouted catch for mess free transactions, a volumetric closing lid to measure the perfect amount of coffee beans with a grind guide, so I can't get confused and anti-static technology to minimize retention. Making the best cup of expresso or iced coffee. It's better than any coffee shop. This is definitely worth investing in, especially if you are an avid coffee lover. I think this would make an excellent birthday or Christmas gift. This does not take up too much counter space. It looks modern and sleek, giving a classy, sophisticated look to any kitchen or coffee bar. Now that coffee tastes better and easier to make with the precise grind of the coffee bean for different types of coffee, I can't wait to try out new recipes. I highly recommend it.
Looks nice, feels cheap and plastic and light but what can you expect for a lower price I suppose. I have a couple other grinders and they could be used as a weapon if need be. Not this one. It's light and feels cheap. Everything is plastic. It does look good. I'd pay 100 more to have it feel heavier and higher quality but I'm sure they are trying to hit a price point and the important thing is that it grinds well. Put the money into the grinder itself. My girlfriend has the Ode version 1 and it's nice but it throws coffee grounds all over the place with every batch of coffee we make and it's white to make it even worse. You have to dedicate some time just to clean up the mess from it so I thought I'd try this and hopefully it wouldn't be so messy. I give it an 8/10 for being messy, not perfect but way better than the Ode. I just wish this was made to the quality of the Ode. I have an old Ranchillio Rocky grinder and that is pure quality and heavy duty and has served me well for 20 years and still going strong I just got sick of standing there for a minute and holding the button while it grinds. I was looking for something hands free and this does it. It matches well with the Aiden coffee maker which makes fantastic coffee but like this suffers from feeling extremely cheap. I would gladly pay more money for a heavy duty unit that feels like it's made to last a lifetime. Fellow products in general to me seem very well thought out and it seems odd to me that this opus grinder and aiden coffee maker and so cheap feeling in the hand. I'm surprised it got by the powers that be at Fellow.
