Fender CD-140SCE Acoustic Electric Guitar - Sunburst w/Case

Thus is a replacement for a 2018 model. AMS with its additional 1 year protection covered a replacement for me. This new model is significantly better than the previous style. Starting with the appearance- Fantastic. This guitar is stunning. The sound- to my ear, this guitar has a much fuller sound than the other. Less of the treble high. More of a mid, full sound. The electronics- this new, smaller tuner/eqis a better version of the last. Previously you could hear the plastic electronic vibrating for the bass. Not on this one. The cord jack- the old model was a built in jack/strat button. Bad design used to unscrew inside the body. New model is separate. 1 for cord and another for strap. A Nice Acoustic

I bought my CD140SCE about a year ago now, and i can honestly say that it is my single pride and joy taking the number one spot over my MM John Petrucci Signature and my starter pack bass that I stripped and rebuilt from the ground up. Out of the box, this guitar was pretty good. Action was okay to my feel and the factory strings seemed a tad flat, but hey, thats standard with any factory built guitar these days. So after tweaking the action and putting on a set of Elixer Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze, this baby sang like a song bird. The preamp is nice, and sounds good when plugged in, though by its self w/o a compressor you do get a decent amount of the Piezo pickup "barking" when you play. So to fix that I tend to use both the preamp and a good condenser mic (when applicable) to add the ambient guitar sound and level off some of that Piezo harshness. Other than that, this guitar oozes beautiful tone by itself when just played acoustically. Which raises another point, THIS IS A SOLID TOP GUITAR!! NOT A LAMINATED TOP!! For those not sure of the difference, here is a simple explanation. Solid top guitars develop better tonal quality with age and use (when taken care of, of course) and Laminated top guitars tend to warp and crack, and sound the same (if not worse) with age. If you do alittle research, you will find that this is the only acoustic within this price range with a true solid top, even the other fenders are laminated top guitars. This was the major deciding factor when I was shopping for an acoustic and I found that the other brands I was looking at (Ibanez and Yamaha) didn't have solid top acoustic in the price range. Overall this guitar is second to none. The tuner and preamp are great, neck feels fantastic (satin finish btw), the tuning knobs hold pitch very well, and the fact that you get this high quality from a brand like Fender makes the price that much better!!

Awesome guitar, awful sticker!

The guitar sounds great. I really recommend it for an intrument in that price range.However, Fender had the great idea of putting a "free online lesson" sticker on the pick guard that sticks so well that it took me half an hour to remove it with a special glue remover and my pick guard is now scratched all around where the sticker was.In 2020, people still don't know that when you put a sticker that is supposed to be removed, it should be easy to remove. Don't use strong glue!!!

Disappointed

Disappointed. The guitar and case are very nice. I did have issues with severe fret buzz. The saddle was too low and needed to be shimmed or replaced. I elected to replace it with a bone saddle and naturally it had to be restrung for additional cost of $75.00. It plays and sounds fine now but it should not have need that type of work done to it in order to make it playable is it was purchased new.

Two aspect to this . The guitar was delivered off the shelf, boxed . No set up before dispatch . So when I got it out of the box it was unplayable with a string height of about 3.5mm at 12th fret and the bow in the arm dramatic . So it went to a Luthier fir a professional set upAnd in fairness to Rimnerscthey reimbursed me that cost .The Luthier found the strings fitted were not Fender Duratones but cheap Chinese strings and the guitar was not an Indonesian made Fender, as most are, but one made in China .So genuine Fender duratone strings were fitted and the guitar now plays a log better than it did.This guitar comes with a good quality lockable padded hard case which in itself would have cost up to £100 so it is a bargain but I don’t play the case .The guitar ... MoreTwo aspect to this . Quality often suffers and they are the masters of fakery and poor standards . Why a company like a fender allows the Chinese to make these instruments is beyond me. My guitar had two to three imperfections in the finish too. But putting cheap Chinese guitar strings on a Fender and trying to pass them off as Fender Duratone strings is unforgivable and I’ve written to Fender about this .

Good Guitar once modified(revoiced)

My wife bought me this as a present so I would have a bedroom guitar to practice on when I wasnt in the studio. It is a lot easier to fall asleep with a under 300 guitar on top of an electric blanket than 2000.00 one.I got so familier playing it that the unspectacular voicing started bothering me.So I decided to revoice it. First thing to know is it is really overbuilt to handle abuse.Things I did.1. Thinned down all the bracing into parabolic arches instead of the straght scooped end form. I went from 5/8" to approx a little over 3/8" while thinning and rounding everything I could reach. The X-brace joint is pretty sloppy, so smoothing that out and making it more flexible worked wonders. Tap, press and restring.. repeat untill it works without the top becoming flexible.2. Tusq Nut and bridge pegs.3. Only thing I still want too do is refret. I play too many jumbo wire superstrats.After a couple a days of work I have a guitar that has a nice chimey voice and a tight bass. It will never compete with a highend acoustic, but it will hold its own in upper mid price range now. Best of all I am much more attached to it after putting some of my own blood into it ( hey razor blades are sharp).

Great guitar for performing and recording

I'm so pleased with this guitar. It has a thin body, very light and it sounds great when connected without any extra noises. It's then great for performing and recording. It's not loud at all on its own and so far I haven't received any feedback from the amp.With a Fishman preamp and a light but strong case, its price/quality is unbeatable... Highly recommended!

It was pretty good

Overall:This guitar was an absolute bargain for the price range, but it did have a few flaws. I think the most noticeable one was when you run your hand on thw top and bottom of the neck you can feel the frets sticking out, but once the strings have been changed it sounds quite good! Would definitely recommend if you are a beginner or not a serious acoustic guitar player!

However apart from lack of communication my purchase went smoothly, the guitar turned up one day later than expected, extremely well packed and a great guitar at an unbeatable price. My other guitars cost considerably more...
