First, shout out to GC for their customer service for a hassle free, and easy interaction. Thank you for your patience.So, the bass. True to first production runs of cars, there's some bugs to work out. I wound up exchanging the initial bass for the exact same one and couldn't help but notice definitive QC quirks. First what caught my attention were the bridge pickup mounting holes were misaligned, causing the pickup to be wedged in the cavity a bit...or it wasn't correctly routed? It at least leveled out, strings were fine over the poles, totally cosmetic as far as I could tell. Then there was something rattling around inside, a screw or who knows. Ultimately it rattled it's way out when I shook it and whatever it was, fell out of the gap between bridge pickup ... Lastly, I noticed the frets...all of them had a funny color. Didn't notice till they caught natural light at home. Closer look and they were definitely discolored, possibly not polished at all as they appeared dull, with varying degrees of how much discoloration fret to fret. Too much lacquer? At that point it was the frets that had me thinking "come on, Fender".I have a MIM Player Stratocaster where the fit and finish is absolutely on lock down, which is what I expected here. Compared to other Player 2 series bass guitars and a Player Plus, there are some differences so be sure to look before you pull the trigger.I did ultimately exchange for the exact same bass with a significant improvement in overall fit and finish. Even the GC representative thought the inconsistencies from the factory were odd.All that said, check it over before purchase and you won't be disappointed. I'm sure Fender is working out some quirks.The bass rocks. Easy to play, sounds great and true to Fender, it just works and simply refines a proven formula. No matter what, I do recommend checking it out.
I needed a bass for my home studio and wanted a classic tone . the bass arrived well setup and and sounded just lovely.Disappointed that the bass didn’t come with even a gig bag . At £750 you would expect this at least .
I play short scale basses but felt I should have a classic full scale in my armoury. A Jazz Bass seemed a better bet for me than a Precision and I am not disappointed.
