This headlamp is fantastic. I used it for the first time on a recent camping trip. The quality and lighting of this headlamp are outstanding. Top notch Fenix design. And, after being gently thrown 72.4 feet in an unprovoked nighttime attack by a feral Wooly Mammoth, my Fenix HM65R headlamp remained functional and safely secured on my head. In fact, the lamp setting spontaneously switched to high beam mode which deterred the Wooly Mammoth from further aggression and alerted Park Rangers to my predicament. Thank you Fenix Store. I had high expectations for this headlamp as I watched video after video about it plus already having a meh experience with a petzel headlamp I was looking forward to this one mainly because of the vast illumination possible combined with very good battery life. At least they were good battery life claims. It claims to be able to last 4 hours on the highest setting but I’m not getting anywhere remotely close to that. On the highest setting for a for minutes, the magnesium around the unit gets surprisingly hot, like almost burn your fingers hot. So it would’ve died in less than 1 hour if I kept that up. I purchased a couple extra rechargeable batteries and a pack of CR123a batteries to have as backup. I do love the band and the adjustable knob works really well! The clicking adjustment of the trajectory and angle of the beams is very nice too. So there are some things I do like about it but again, battery claims are VERY exaggerated and beware of using the max lumen mode, be prepared for some hot metal on your forehead!

My absolute favorite headlamp. I'm that guy that tinkers at odd hours and always has a headlamp. Works great for hiking, working under a car, electrical work, etc. Feels light on your head and is DURABLE. It does seem to eat those o rings if you swap batteries but 2 in 4 years ain't bad. I'm colorblind red green and the light really being so adjustable helps me really distinguish colors when wiring or doing other projects. Great work Fenix. Battery life if on high is low but it's understandable. Commonly I'm on flood medium maybe with 1 spot level but mostly just love the flood with option to spot and turbo if you're in the woods and got something cool to look at or what not.

First, the light is *solid* and not some flimsy, cheap-o piece of junk mad in China. This light will and has already taken a lot of abuse from me in my work (I'm the maintenance man for a trailer park and we are *constantly* repairing trailers and under them replacing water pipes, etc). This light gets loads of sweat on it in the summer months, plus mud and water and rust and dirt and grease, etc, and this winter will get a break from some of those things, heh. The *light* this thing puts out is *ASTOUNDING*! I use the medium flood the most often as I'm almost 60 and my sight isn't as good as it once was and I need light far more often than I did 20 years ago. This setting truly does last all day long. One can even turn on *BOTH* the high setting spot and high setting flood simultaneously and light up the neighborhood, lol. This is literally one of the best purchases as a tool I've made since I started work as a construction carpenter 40+ years ago. I'd tried a cheaper priced headlamp made by Energizer before this and that thing ate the AAA batteries like they were going out of style. I was going broke from using that headlamp. This headlamp is saving me all kinds of money and heartache. If you can afford the initial cost, and if you're not trying to survive on a disability check and can get a spare Fenix battery, do so! You *WILL* be extremely happy with your purchase. I'll never buy another brand or model, since I'm sure this one will last me several years even getting beat up as it will. My HL60R bit the dust or I should say the head band bit the dust. The short of it is I needed a new head light. Fenix no longer sells the HL60R and yes I still like it better than the HM65R. The 65R has a better light output than my 60R but is just not as handy in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong the 65R is a great light not just as user friendly as the HL 60R. Light output HM65R wins, comfort goes to the 60R. THE 65R does get a bit warm and you can feel the heat..doesn’t burn but gets warm on your forehead. Ease of use 60R wins hands down. The controls on the 65 R are a bit awkward and messy. What I guess I am saying is the 65R is a good headlight but I wish that Fenix would bring back the 60R.

I like having flood or spotlight options & having battery charge indicator. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the 1st one I bought I have to take the battery out of it to charge. The internal charging stopped working, so I just automatically do that with this one. I originally bought this headlight because it uses the same battery as my Fenix PD35 but since owning it, it's my favorite headlight. That's why I bought another one. Petzl, Black Diamond, etc. They all have the same issue of weak floodlights that may be good for staying on trails of close up work like map reading, rope management, and general camp task. But when I'm home I also heavily rely on my headlights when working around the house at night in the garden. And they all have the same issue of weak yellowish lights that chew threw batteries but don't provide me enough illumination when I'm digging around my tomato plants in the evening.Well this summer I was digging around picking tomatoes and put my hand right on a giant bull snake I didn't see because the yellow hue of the light didn't make him stand out clearly. Been using the Fenix HM65R for a few months now. I am a saltwater fisherman and fish on the Galveston Bay in Texas every three days in my kayak at night often times all night. This light has been a game changer. I was recently having trouble finding a light that could stand up to the salt but this thing has been awesome. I have wiped it down with a wet cloth after each use to remove any residual salt and haven't had a single issue. Also, the battery lasts all night flawlessly (mid beam setting). Very bright on the spot and flood setting. Makes spotting bait fish easy and makes me feel very safe when signaling to boats to go around me. 10 out of 10 will be sticking with Fenix in the future.
