The advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I'm happy with the purchase but there are some major flaws that would need to be fixed for me to buy another high performance Fenix headlamp. I mostly use it for nocturnal wildlife surveys in the tropics.Pros:-Super bright, 3000 lumens really feels like it.-Ability to use spot or flood or both at the same time.-The neutral white color of the flood LEDs looks good.-Turbo doesn't turn off after 10 seconds like some of the competitors, you get at least a few minutes before it steps down which is quite good.-Battery compartment is easy to open and swap batteries.-The twist knob to turn on and off the light ... MoreAs of early 2022 I would say this is the best ultra bright headlamp you can buy, especially in that price range. I ran various tests using the provided batteries with a full charge, at room temperature, using just 1 mode the whole time. For example, on flood mode on high (not turbo), it's supposed to get 10 hours, I got 3.5 hours every time I ran the test. Fenix confirmed it's not a defective unit. At 3.5 hours the batteries are totally spent, it won't go on flood mode at all and only goes on spot mode on low for a few minutes before dying again. No headlamp gets the advertised run time in my experience but this is way less than advertised. I understand an ultra bright headlamp won't have great run times, but the misleading product info definitely leads to false hopes.-There's no way to lock it so it doesn't turn on during storage/transportation. With a headlamp this high performance/expensive, and especially one that gets as hot as it does on turbo, I think this is not only an obvious oversight but a serious safety issue.-Gets pretty hot on turbo, it only feels a bit warm on your forehead but you have to be careful when you grab it, though this is true for any headlamp this bright and this one has better heat dissipation than most.-Needs to be more waterproof, IPX7 or IPX8.-Both types of LEDs used are CRI 70 (confirmed by Fenix), would love to have the option of high CRI emitters, at the very least in the flood LEDs.-You can't dim it to the desired brightness, it jumps up in steps, which is ok but with both flood and spot on it jumps from 400 to 1800 lumens, for my needs 400 is too dim but 1800 is too bright.-Big and heavy but that's to be expected.I also bought the LEDLenser H15R Work to compare this one to, ended up keeping the Fenix. The LEDLenser is more waterproof, main LED is high CRI, and can be locked for transport, but the twist knob is way too small and hard to turn, twisting the front ring to adjust between spot and flood is loose and feels cheap, and most importantly the battery compartment is an absolute nightmare to open/close to swap batteries. This is my first Fenix light and I can see why people like them but I really hope they make some of these changes. I'd pay another $100 for all those things.

This may be related to the durability issues I experienced with the cable, but still seems like a very odd issue considering this mode is not listed anywhere in the specs.Overall, if you're not planning on doing a lot of intense caving where durability is critical it would probably be fine, but for this use case I would not recommend it.-------------------------Edit:After letting the light sit for a couple days the issue with the light turning back on has gone away. I suspect this may have been caused by some minor water leakage. I've changed the review from 2/5 stars to 3/5 since I still have some concerns about the reliability, especially of the cable. For how expensive this light is I expect a thicker cable that is more abrasion resistant. The mesh outer layer especially adds very little protection. The tilt adjustment mechanism could also be better if the pivot point was more centered to avoid accidentally tilting the light back however this is not a major issue.

Fenix Flashlights - The Best
4 January 2022

Fenix has recently introduced a new wearable head lamp that far surpasses the lumenosity of all their previous headsets. Powered by two 21700 Li-Ion batteries, the max intensity level from the combination spotlight and two flood lights is 3000 lumens. That's bright enough to light up my back yard like the middle of July. Mostly intended for night sporting events, this is not a headlamp that is worn for temporary use but instead for all-night activities and when wearing some safety protection. What is most extraordinary is that at the brightest mode of 3000 Lumen will remain constant for five hours. The remote power pack also doubles as a 10000 mAh power bank and includes an extension cord to allow for mounting it in several convenient ways. It will provide all the energy using the super longevity of two massive 21700 rechargeable batteries, each pumped with 5000 mAh of energy. Fenix also included a way to charge these batteries within the power pack housing or the choice to remove and replace them with fresh batteries for when immediate and continued use of the light is necessary. In contrast to power packs for other lights using non-removable batteries, simply renewing the batteries has proven to be the quickest and most reliable method when constant full power is needed for extended hours of service. Next down from Turbo mode is the High mode setting and is no slouch either with a max level of 1800 lumens and 6 hours of constant light without ever having to charge or change the batteries. The HP30R V2.0 with remote power pack can be mounted on your helmet, jacket, or belt. The weight of the lighting unit is comparable in weight to the headlamps runners prefer and is not a burden at all. For those wearing safety hats with the power pack mounted on the rear, the extra weight is negligible, and you can be well assured that bright light will continue to be available for hours. There is no denying why Fenix lights are the favorite of so many people including myself for use around the home and at work. Mostly for sports and for activities of all types, it is perfect for climbers for sport and quite possibly even for rescue operations. Search and rescue teams will have hours of bright light available even in inclement whether or enduring a power outage in stormy weather. Also excellent for making a service call with your new track vehicle or when assisting to clear a traffic pile-up on a snowy highway. This latest high output head light from Fenix will last for the duration. Even for those riding a bike at night, this light in combination with the Fenix handlebar mounted bicycle headlight with its max output of 2200 Lumen will have you loaded for bear.I didn't mention everything about this headlamp, but as everything else from Fenix, high tech design is built throughout all its components, and that includes its excellent multi-selection power switch. A Fenix battery charger that fits 21700 batteries is also a good investment but not really necessary since the provided batteries can be charged within the power pack from a computer or even a standard 2A phone charger. Fenix has also announced plans to provide a line of tactical flashlights for which I'm sure Fenix will once again take the lead by providing the very best equipment available.

HM30R V2.0 for early morning work

Very powerful headlamp as others reviewers have noted and while I never seem to need the maximum illumination, the double batteries are great for longevity. The headlamp is a bit heavier then my HM70R but it's to be expected. The option to attach the battery pack to your person instead of the headband takes care of this weight distribution if needed. Why would it be needed? securing the battery pack to your head while wearing a cap or just around your head may tend to slip off when you're working depending on the strap tightness and your comfort zone. I've gotten use to the push button on/off mechanism of the HM70R so the twist switch of the HP30R V2.0 is just different and takes a bit of practice before becoming muscle memory. Unpleasant experience with the lamp. I used it in a cave for about a year and a half. I submerged it in a cave pond to a max of 3-5 centimeters to take an illuminated wet picture, when I took it out and switched it back to the lowest diffused light setting it would instead switch to turbo mode (3000 lumens of light) but at the medium and strongest diffused light settings, the stabbed light settings, and the turbo mode settings continued to work fine, only at that setting if I switched to turbo it would flicker on and off. Coming out of the cave, after about 30 minutes out of the water it reset and worked fine. When I turned it on the next morning it would not light up, it would not turn on. It was humid inside and winding the coil switch stopped the little click between the stages and on the thread if I wound it towards the close it tightened if towards the relax it could be unwound completely and I could remove the coil switch. When I rewound it, it stopped working. Unscrewing the back, you can see that the copper wire on the coil switch is bent and not in contact with the copper plate. Inside there are signs of soaking and some damage to the insulation. The insulation is aged on the coil switch. The insulation at the cable inlet appears to be incomplete/not fully insulated in places. I'm not saying I don't recommend the lamp but I have had problems with it despite loving the features of the lamp, it's like a cheap Scurion with poorer material quality and much poorer reliability.

Nice headlamp but....
18 February 2023

This is a great headlamp with super bright light. It's basically like wearing the sun on your head. The problem with the light is the switch. I bought the headlamp and within the first 6 months the switch got to the point that it was near impossible to turn. I contacted Fenix and returned the headlamp for repair. Fenix actually replaced the headlamp with a brand new headlamp and everything worked great for about another 6 months. Now the switch turns freely but, as I turn to select the brightness, not all the levels work and the ones that do work the light flickers. I believe it's something with the switch itself. Possibly a bad design issue but I love the turn switch because it works better than having to push a button several times to get to the mode/level you want.

Switch Failure
18 March 2023

I purchased this light and saw the reviews about the switch failing beforehand and thought it was just a rare occurrence. However, after 13 days of using the light, it stopped working. I only used my light in an indoor environment and never put it through anything serious. The dial felt "gritty" after 3-4days. It was noticeable but not a problem. Then on the 13th day I transitioned from the flood light to spot light mode and in-between the transition where the "shut off" is, the light stopped working all together. The batteries are charged, the tabs were pulled off the batteries, and the connections are fine.I have already sent in request to see what warranty will do for me. I have two other headlamps from Fenix and I can say that this was very unexpected.

This is the light for me!

I have nothing bad to say. Light is super bright. Battery last a very long time. Nice feature being able to charge a phone using the battery pack. It does get warm. Using the light in a tight attic space for 6hrs did result in some heat and made me sweat a little. But was tolerable. I personally added a small foam Pad as a cushion for my forehead. It is slightly heavy. Reason for adding the foam pad . Weight is not a complaint. Fenix makes smaller lights if you want that. This light is bigger, heavier, warmer than others but is by far the brightest. That's what I was looking for.. perfect for my needs! I don't know about battery drain when not in use. Because I use my Fenix headlamp daily. Then charge it when it gets to 1 or 2 bars of four. Battery life indicator is ... MoreI have nothing bad to say. Light is super bright. Thank you Fenix for a great product! Have owned for 3 months.

Worth the money!
9 June 2023

this is by far the best quality headlamp i have purchased. I am tried many different brands, Ledlensor, Coast, Black Diamond, and Milwaukee. This is the most expensive one i have tried; but wll worth it. Its very high quality Aluminium, and headband is sturdy. I have different lights for different occasions. This light will light up the entire area you are walking. The Flood lamp has a softer white and brings out the color with great visability, and the spotlight is powerfull at a distance. If you had to walk in the woods, or light up the yard; this is the one to buy. The battery life is great as well. It fits my head very comfortablly if you ware it for a long time, it just seems to balance out on your head perfectly. I wore it all day, and loved it. I like the turn nob and easy operation. It just fits whatever you need in a headlamp. I turned it on low for around the house, and high outtside. So many other brands really just are not that bright, or long battery life. I wan't sure if i should pay that much for a headlamp; but its definatly worth it in my view. I love it!
