I have a lot of headphone amplifiers. This one in particular is doing something amazing to my planar headphones. Very linear on my dynamic headphones and nothing to write home about. I have a few tube amps that can do amazing things with dynamic headphones. This thing has made my Fostex, Hifiman, MrSpeakers and my Audeze headphones sound alive in a most unusual way. It's like this amp has brought a new dimension to the sound of all these headphones. With this amp I just enjoy a new life on my old expensive planars. I do believe I will buy another!

If you are planning to upgrade from Fiio E10k , and want to see what an upgrade will sound like then this article is for you:1. You get to hear layering of instruments , if you notice that all instruments sort of lie in one plane in E10K , here you get more layering .2. Instruments sounds a bit more refinedWhat you need to know is that FiioE10K , already does 95 percent of what K7 does , you only get some layering and refined instruments . There is something called as "Diminishing Returns" , it's true in Dac/Amp .The more you invest , the less you get in return , from K7 upwards the only thing you are going to get is a bit more layering , that's all. If your basic E10K meets 95 percent then this upgrade will push it to 98 percent .

This is my first DAC/amp so I have no point of reference, but I'm happy with it. Bought it to power my new planar headphones because my computer's onboard couldn't quite get loud enough. The sound is transparent enough for my untrained ear. It looks good on my desk, doesn't take up to much space, and I was worried the RGB would be annoying but it's actually quite tasteful. Works out of the box on Linux. Did seem to add a bit of latency which was noticeable at times e.g. gaming, but some tweaks to system audio settings cut it down to tolerable levels.

Used this to drop a DAC/amp/splitter setup I was using previously. I ended up with much cleaner sound, more power and the easy of a switch to go from my headphones to my speaker amp. As always headphone bar shipped quickly and everything showed up perfectly packaged. I'm not sure you can beat the sound quality and utility of this device without spending a fair bit more money.
What a major disappointment, after reading multiple reviews and listening to youtube influencers, what a let down. THIS IS NOT A DAC.,, no definitive definition in mid or highs , 45 degree sound stage. Muffle bass no thud in the beat, and this is at max volume. No better than a typical sound card eg motu 828es. Compared to my fiio btr5 and also ifi Zen one sound signature , korg ds dac 10r . I did not play mqa songs from tidal in comparing only hifi song from tidal, but against all 3 dac's its a big No go. I returned the unit.

I connect to laptop to usb input and use K7 to power Meze 109 Pros or Sundaras at my desk location. As context, my main listening station is using SMSL SU-9 and Topping A90 D to power HIFIMAN XS or Meze 109’s. A very different level of sonic balance and technology. Enough backdrop.Sound is ultra clean, transparent and musical. Could use a bass boost switch. Tone is pure, accurate with a hint of clinical focus, likely due to THX 788 amps used internally. I am replacing a Grace Designs M900 and the K7 at almost 1/3 price is clearly better sonically, especially in mids and treble region. But, I miss the sleek, low profile footprint and ergonomics of volume knob. Grace has, well, grace. K7 physical presentation is a black metal clunky box. Must be something in between.Others have pointed out the K7’s volume knob is calibrated oddly. It is true you have to spin up the volume knob to 2-3 o’clock position to get enough juice to drive even the efficient 109’s. Annoying, uneven but again your at $200 level.I like it, don’t love it. Gives me an ultra clear THX 788 sound with a very good DAC for the price point. I am surprised that the physical, clunky black box, read non- design appearance keeps bothering me. Maybe the disconnect is that it delivers beautiful sound, not remotely on par with my main rig mentioned above, bit looks a little in the utility, ugly black box. They should have spent $25 on better casing and footprint.What else would I have considered in hindsight? Maybe the Topping DX5? Would I recommend it overall? Yes. If it’s all about sound, definitely.
Nice Dac & Amp. This drives beyerdynamic dt990 pro 250 ohms headphones amazingly. Heard many good things about Fiio k7 in many reviews and can feel it now with a smile on my face. Can feel the clear difference in the way I listen to music. Right now, I am a happy audiophile. Thanks headphone zone!!!
Bought this amp to drive HiFiman HE400se and HD6XX mainly. It has plenty of power on low gain. I can't detect any noise in my headphones. I like that it has preamp function. For the price it's all I need. I have it setup beside my Lazy boy so I can adjust the controls at arms length. What would make this great if it had a bass adjustment at 20hz-40hz something like Xbass. It's odd that the power doesn't really kick in until about Noon on the dial, but sensitive IEM it's at 9 o'clock.
FiiO K7 has opened up the soundstage of my aging Audio-Technica ATH-M50, Bose QuietComfort 25 and KZ-ZSN Pro X. I've started to hear hitherto unheard of elements in the very same music files of all genres and all qualities that I've been listening to for years. I'm more impressed with the mids and highs with the voices coming out more clear and rounded. The difference in bass is not all that pronounced but still the bass guitar riffs have become more prominent. I'm thinking in terms of getting a new pair of headphones of at least 250 Ohms impedance to realise the full potential of the device. I'm perfectly happy with the purchase.
Was owning the HiFi Man Sundara for a while now, had purchased it second hand while I was abroad, however was using just a USB dongle DAC which was not driving the headphone optimally. I was going through the Headphone Zone website and found the recommendations for this awesome Desktop Amp and DAC. Wow.. Wow. Just wow. What a difference it has made to my small collection of Headphones and IEM I have. Worth all the penny I feel.
