A good mountain bike shoe can make the difference between an amazing day of riding and a frustrating day of slips and blisters. I recently put the 5.10 Freerider Pro to the test while using it nearly every day for a few months on the trails surrounding Boulder Colorado.I tested the Freerider Pro primarily on the mountain bike trails near Boulder Colorado, but I was able to get a weekend in at the amazing IMBA trails at Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming. I have the amazing privilege of mountain biking as part of my job, so every day while at work I would change out of my regular hiking boots and lace up my 5.10 Freerider Pros. I would then head out on a mountain bike patrol of one of the local trails. I have the amazing privilege of mountain biking as part of my job, so every day while at work I would change out of my regular hiking boots and lace up my 5.10 Freerider Pros. I would then head out on a mountain bike patrol of one of the local trails. Some rides were 15 miles of sunshine and dry trail conditions and some rides were 7 miles of mud and puddles. Over the course of the last two months I put almost 500 miles on my Freeriders. I’ve smashed my toes on rocks and roots, hiked my bike more times than I’d like to admit, and ridden these shoes in a variety of weather and trail conditions.Right out of the box the 5.10 Freerider Pros felt amazing on my feet. This initial feeling only improved with time. They’re as comfortable as just about any shoe I own. Not only are they comfortable, I think these shoes look great! Most outdoor gear is trending in the direction of having very bright color options, but not these 5.10 shoes. For someone who prefers earthen tones to the usual neon outdoor clothing, the more muted colors on the 5.10 Freerider Pros made me feel right at home. The Freerider Pro features a weather-resistant synthetic upper and an impact-resistant toe box. The impact-resistant toe box saved my toes on multiple run-ins with roots and rocks. The weather-resistant and durable upper shoe shows few signs of wear after months of riding and kept my feet dry on all but the wettest days. In my opinion the 5.10 Stealth S1 outsole is the best all-mountain outsole on the market. I never had a doubt about whether my shoes would slip off the pedals. Not only do you feel secure when riding, but these shoes are great for hiking in too. I know you’re supposed to stay in the saddle, but sometimes you just have to push your bike!Despite my shower of praise for the 5.10 Freerider Pro, I do have a few areas the shoe could improve. First, the ventilation: these shoes are hot and don’t breathe very well. If your feet sweat a lot, you’ll need some thin socks to avoid wet feet. My feet rarely sweat, but wearing my usual wool socks I could feel them getting hot after shorter rides on warm days. Second, the laces on these shoes could improve. They aren’t very durable and they are hard to sufficiently tighten. Luckily laces are cheap and easy to replace! As an added bonus, you can feel good about buying 5.10 and Adidas products. Adidas is regularly listed in the top 10 among the 100 most sustainable companies in the world. In addition, Adidas partners with multiple global NGOs focused on reducing ocean and air pollution. All in all, the 5.10 Freerider Pros are my new go-to mountain biking shoes, and I’ll continue to use them for years to come. When they finally wear out, I’ll replace them with the exact same shoe. The 5.10 Freerider Pro is the closest thing on the market to a perfect mountain biking shoe. A few small tweaks and I’d call it perfected. Cheers to you, 5.10 design team!

I was in the market for flat pedal shoes for awhile. Went to a couple big box stores to try on a few different pair. Thought the Freerider Pro was one of the better shoes. The in store price was like $160. So, of course, I naturally look online to compare prices. $90 from Cambria, with free shipping. Now, don't get me wrong. I will often spend my money at the local shop even when it cost a bit more money, but this was an extreme difference. I would certainly shop with them again.I wear a size 10 and sometimes prefer a wider profile. These FiveTen's in a size 10 fit great!I have not been able to use them as much as I'd like, but the first few rides look promising.

Bought them for E biking in Sicily. I kind of thought that they were a gimic. They were not. The grip on the pedals biking the hills of Sicily was amazing. I also used them as my all around shoe. Traveling, dinners, walking around on lots of cobblestone streets. They were quite comfortable. My feet are on the wide side and there was plenty of room. They were true to size.

Bought same size as my Shimano 44. Shoes arrived in time and was a bit disappointed as they felt too tight. Tried again at different time of day with summer and winter socks (seal skins) and thought maybe ok. Went half a size up on another order as other sites suggested and although they felt comfier thought they felt a bit sloppy with summers socks. So sent bigger ones back. After a few rides now pleased I stuck with original order of 44. Smart shoe really grippy coming from spd easy to clean. My advice maybe wear round the house ,keep on to see. Have heard these shoes give a bit through use so will only get comfier.
Not my first pair of Five Tens and won't be my last. Perfect for any time you're not clipping in! During races I usually swap pedals for SPDs, but training, fun rides, or hitting the local bike park I run flats and these shoes are sufficiently rigid and really stick to the pins.Gives great control and power transfer with the ability to reposition your foot as needed.Perfectly at home and comfortable off the bike after rides too, and honestly they've become my default shoe for day-to-day.
Fit and finish on the shoe looks fine, but it's simply too small to wear. Because of the stiff build and very rigid sole, this shoe is unforgiving of size errors. I wear men's 13D in most Allen-Edmonds shoes. ASICS sizing is off and I wear 14 there (and have even had to go with 15 recently). I bought 14 for the Freerider Pros. If I were just wearing them on the couch, they would fit...just. But add physical activity to the mix--with the likelihood of the foot sliding forward in mountain biking--and size 14 is a non-starter. Backcountry doesn't carry the full Five Ten size range so I have to go elsewhere to find men's 15s...and pay return shipping cost for the privilege.
Solid shoes. Good grip, good stiffness. Good fit and good durability so far. Much stiffer feeling than the reg free rider. And with a more durable outer. Super comfy. Stays tied up well. Proper true to size. My 8US feet fits an 8 in these perfect.Worth checking out as a freerider upgrade!
This is my third pair of this brand and model. Love these things. Decided to get a backup pair due to wet weekend days back to back. (don't ride muddy trails, but rain will happen in the mountains) This particular pair I bought was the bright orange and yellow. FYI, The picture on the website was toned down quite a bit because they are basically neon orange rather than how they appear in the photo. But otherwise the same trusty shoe. I have wide feet and struggle to find outdoor shoes that work well with my flat feet. I buy a full size larger in these and they fit perfect. (i.e. normally wear 10.5, I buy 11.5)
Wore very sporadically for 3 years, just the bike park and then on my gravel bike for casual rides. I cant beleivbe how fast the sole wore out. I am very dissapointed in this. I had used plain hiking shoes for years and years and years, once they wore out i tried these and considering the cost i expected far better perfromance. The Sole does stick to the pedal wear thanks to the soft rubber. But that also means i developed a hole in the sole within a few montsh of riding. These are kinda pointless unless youre lookign to show off how much money youre willing to spend on your gear. Otherwise i found hiking shoes to be a longer lasting choicethat also offers more versatility. The upper part of the shoe has maintained very well though. It is olny the sole of the shoe ... MoreWore very sporadically for 3 years, just the bike park and then on my gravel bike for casual rides. I cant beleivbe how fast the sole wore out. First, I ordered a size 10.5 and received a size 10. The shoes still fit, albeit, a bit snug with merino wool socks. I use my road cycling socks instead. Because ventilation is poor, my feet are often hot and sweaty; this could be because of the sizing. As far as looks, they look like 1970s platform shoes. I mean these things are chonky. Part of the reason I purchased them was because they are considered "low profile." Arguably, they are not.Overall, I'm not a fan of the Five Ten Freedrider Pro.
