What Our Gearhead Experts Are Saying: "These are my go-to pants for big days on the trail or working outdoors. The G-1000 fabric is tough as nails but still breathes well, and the zippered vents make a huge difference when I start heating up. I love all the pocket options too—they’re built for real use, not just looks." Built for serious adventures and rugged terrain, the Fjallraven Vidda Pro Ventilated Trouser is a masterclass in durability and function. Made from Fjallraven’s legendary G-1000 fabric—a blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton—these pants balance long-lasting wear with wind and water resistance that adapts to any environment. Reinforced knees add abrasion protection, while stretch panels increase mobility for steep climbs and crouched work in camp. Designed for the outdoorsperson who values both toughness and breathability, the Vidda Pro Ventilated Trouser features zippered outer leg vents that regulate temperature on the move. Multiple cargo, knife, and hand pockets keep tools and essentials organized, while an axe loop and adjustable cuffs round out the functional design. Whether hiking remote trails or tackling demanding projects in the field, these pants stand up to years of hard use and wild exploration.

I have one pair of these lants that I used for 5 days backpacking the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore amd 2 days chasing pheasants on public land. The fit is perfect and the look good too. The pants are very comfortable and I had no issues with rubbing or anything like that. They were also comfortable while carrying and I had no printing issues as well. The pockets are great and I love that there are no back pockets. I was co concerned that I would lose stuff on the thigh pockets with the single snap. That was not an issue at all and I love the more forward placement on them too.The vents are amazing too. Whenever I would start to heat up on the long hike, I'd open the vents and air out for a bit. My jacket and vest are covered in burrs and other plant materials. To be honest, I have not yet worn these on the trail. However, Fjallraven clothing has always been exceptional (I have other pieces) and I anticipate that these pants will be great. The fit seems to be on the small side; I would suggest ordering a size large or getting into a store to try them on to assure proper fit (I went into the store and still first bought a pair that was small which I exchanged for the appropriate size). Lots of pockets, large and sturdy belt loops should provide plenty of places for whatever I need/want to carry. The fabric seems very rugged and feels good. After identifying the correct size I believe that the pants provide a lot of flexibility and will not constrain/restrict my movement at all.

After trying these on I decided to purchase 3 pair for work through REI.com. New they were great and had no issues. Wore them for work with trimmed Fjallraven knee pads inserted. I noticed the knees were wearing fast with some stitching coming undone within the first 10 times I wore them. I stuck with them because I really loved the way they fit. After approximately 150 times worn and 75 washes later, they all have become unwearable with holes in the knees and on one pair a broken zipper. I thought with the higher pricing and robust fabric blend that they would've lasted longer. If you plan on using these with knee pads and are down on your knees often plan on them not lasting. I think the material used is about as durable as denim.

Great moderate weather hiking pants
22 December 2023

Bought these for two months of hiking in Iceland and Norway. I loved them. Don't know why there is no conversion chart from Euro sizes to waist and inseam sizes. From past experience, I knew a size 50 would fit my 33x32 body. A tag in the pants reads US 33-34 and Regular length. I agree with the size. They ride a little lower than my jeans, but with a backpack the pant sat below the pack belt. The lack of rear pockets was different, but there were no lumps when I sat down. The built-in strap at the bottom of the legs was a nice feature as were the ventilation zippers on the thighs. I wore holes in the fabric at the inside of the pant cuffs, common with my hiking pants. The single layer of fabric between the two double layers wrinkled and I wore a hole in the fabric. I found the small pocket on the right leg held my sheath knife easily. Great pants to wear in moderate weather conditions.

I HATE CARGO PANTS
26 February 2023

Though I appreciate the functionality of cargo pants, I can't stand the cut or sizing by other brands. Most are so baggy they look like clown pants on me and the pockets flap awkwardly if you put anything in them. These pants fit more like a pair of slim/straight jeans and all the pockets on the front means that anything you put in them don't swing back and forth while you walk. The sizing is perfect; I am 5'8" and 140 lbs with a 31" waist and the size 46 fits perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to take these day tripping around my favorite parks or for an overnighter in dry to mild/moderate weather. The pants are water resistant for mildy wet conditions, but if I think I might get rained on I'm taking my Gore-Tex shell to throw over whatever I'm wearing anyway. Now for ... MoreThough I appreciate the functionality of cargo pants, I can't stand the cut or sizing by other brands. While tougher than your average hiking pants, they are also high maintenance and vulnerable to certain conditions. They may fit like Cryes but I wouldn't call them military grade. The G1000 fabric seems to have the weaknesses of both synthetics and cotton: burns easily and soaks up water (if not maintained with the greenland wax). That rules them out for multi-day excursions or bushcrafting activities that involve open flames. In that regard I don't think that makes them worse than any other pants on the market, but for the price it's enough to give me pause before engaging in some activities that I wouldn't think twice about while wearing my $30 Costco pants. If scars are your thing, you can always patch these up yourself or through the warranty service and carry on devil-may-care without any loss in functionality. Now, if you are looking for a pair of cargo pants that look great, hold up well in non-extreme conditions, and fit like your favorite pair of jeans, check these out. But if you are looking for some truly gritty pants that can go anywhere and do anything without a second thought, probably better use that money to buy two pairs of something cheaper.

I don't get the hype

Decent hiking pants, but I prefer others that cost half as much. Just by holding them you can see they are clearly quality pants, well made and tough. The seams, buttons, and zippers are well constructed, but they aren't as comfortable as other reviews rate them to be. They are louder than most pants I've owned and are fairly stiff. These are definitely more ideal for cooler temperatures as well. If it gets to over 80 here in CO I will be sweating in these, while I normally wear pants when it's up to 100 degrees here. The zippered vents feel like a good idea, except they expose your bare leg and boxers when opened as there isn't mesh, or anything of the like. Just an opening. Not sure why they decided on two pockets on the thigh and none on the rear, but it can be a bit odd at times to reach for a pocket that isn't there.Overall, I'd say these are probably great for fall/winter weather. However, in the future I would go with a different pair for my needs. I prefer my Kuhl renegade rock pants over these any day. They're thinner/lighter but still hold up in cooler temps, stretch, have similar storage space, are far more comfortable in general, and cost nearly half as much.

My Favorite Hiking Pants!

I’ve owned these pants for almost 2 years now. Best work/hiking pants. I used these for when I used to survey, I use them for hiking and doing yard work. They work well in the summer especially with the zipper vents. They also work great in the winter because of the material and wax. The wax will wear off over time which might be a good thing if you want them to be more breathable. But you can always reapply. They have countless useful pockets and loops that can be used for hiking or camping gear. I wore these for a camping trip that required kayaking; and when water would come into my kayak, it would bead up and roll of my pants because of the wax and kept me dry. They fit true to size, but take into consideration that European style clothing is usually slimmer fitting. I usually wear 31/32 waist and I purchased size 48 (European size) which is a 32 waist. When comparing these to the Keb Trouser, they are gonna be more tough and abrasion resistant because of the fabric. But they are designed to be very comfortable because they place flexible fabric in all the right places. I will probably be buying the Keb Trouser eventually just to have another option. Couldn’t recommend these pants enough.

Poor quality control and dismissive warranty team

I was very excited to see how these pants would hold up and, due to the price, had high expectations. Unfortunately, these pants have been a let down in multiple ways. The first issue came from poorly aligned pocket flap seams which causes the flap to curl at the edge. No amount of ironing will fix it. Then within two months a hole began to form inside the front right pocket. Shortly after discovering that I noticed multiple holes had formed at the bottom of the pant legs near the ankles. I expected better durability and abrasion resistance. Do yourself a favor and visit the Fjällräven website and read through their warranty standards. These pants have so many features that I'm STILL discovering them.I usually wear prAna Stretch Zion pants (still love them, and they'll incredibly durable for how thin they are), but I decided to splurge on a pair of these for my bushcrafting activities. I just got done trudging through brambles and thorny crap, and they weren't in the least bit fazed. My shoe laces were full of stickers, but after thigh high reeds and other nasties, not much of anything stuck to the cuffs of these pants. Color me impressed. My initial impressions are that these things will likely last and last and last. The adjustable critter cuffs are spot on, though they do require a bit of finesse to retract when opening them back up. I absolutely LOVE that they forewent with the back pockets. They're just a great way to lose or break phones, and no one wants to sit on some random object in their pockets, anyways. The cargo pockets stay out on the way of any bent knees while kneeling or squatting, too.I've been converted.Only very minor irritation is that sometimes I have trouble with getting the snap buttons on the cargo pockets to close one handed. A bit of fabric folds over the snap receiver. This is mostly just user error.

There are many things to admire about the pants (the looks, the rugged material, tool loops you can pretend to need), and I want to like them, but there are too many failings. First of all, the "articulated knee" is placed too low in the pant leg. As a result I would have to wear these higher than the crotch allows to actually have freedom to make a high step and not have to work against the pants to do so. This is not a sizing issue as the inseam and the waist fit me perfectly otherwise. This leads to the other issue, which is the ankle adjustment system. You would think these would pair well with hiking boots, but the adjustment system when cinched in to the top of a hiking boot easily pops off -- again, the inseam is a perfect length for me. You would think these would pair well with hiking boots, but the adjustment system when cinched in to the top of a hiking boot easily pops off -- again, the inseam is a perfect length for me. That means these pants are no match for ankle-deep snow, which makes gaiters a necessity... which to my thinking undermines the point of heavy duty, water repellent pants with an ankle cinch if you have to wear gaiters anyway. Worse, the buckle has a tendency of wedging itself between the ankle and the boot tongue. So not only does it not perform a functional role well, it frequently gets in the way.In general I have to assume that the design team has never walked up hill before, a) because of the restricted movement in the knees makes it very tedious, and b) whoever designed these clearly has no glutes and apparently neither have they met someone with muscles back there. You can do a deep squat in them (technically speaking it is possible), but it is pretty uncomfortable on the quads if you're someone who has the requisite amount of leg muscle to stand up again. My recommendation: while probably less durable, the p*tagonia quandary pants are in every way a superior product (half the features, double the functionality) for half the cost -- get those instead unless you really need pants for LARPing as a swedish outdoorsman who has never seen a hill before.
