Fujifilm XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens

$399.95

(268 reviews)

Designed specifically for the Fujifilm X-series of interchangeable lens cameras with APS-C sensors, this Fujifilm 60mm f/2.4 XF Macro Lens is a short telephoto lens equivalent to 90mm in 35mm format. The fast, bright f/2.4 maximum aperture makes shooting in low light possible, and provides pleasing bokeh (the out-of-focus portion of a photo) with its 9-blade aperture design--ideal for dramatic portraits. To take advantage of the X-series cameras' mirrorless design, the rear element of the lens is as close as possible to the sensor, minimizing the back focus distance appreciably. The lens construction includes a metal barrel, Super EBC coating for improved optical performance, and it delivers improved center-to-edge resolution and brightness free from chromatic aberration. This macro lens has a maximum magnification of 0.5x, and the aperture ring has 1/3-stop click stops for more precise exposures. This is a mid telephoto lens with the bright aperture of f/2.4 despite its compact size. It uses a glass molded aspheric lens at the 7th element to prevent field curvature, and places an ED (extra-low dispersion) glass lens at the 6th element to contain chromatic aberration. The lens is ideal for portraiture because of its beautiful blur and high-definition description. At the minimum working distance of 26.7cm, the lens delivers the maximum magnification of 0.5x for macro photography.

A Slow Beauty that is Compact and Delivers Sharp Images

The 80mm is twice as long at 5.12 inches. The 60mm is slow to focus and hunts in low light. The images are excellent. True, I can't get as close with the 60mm compared to the 80mm. Its a wonderful performer and I love its rendering. The Good:Amazing sharpness profile. Look at the MTF chart for it on Fujifilms website, its mostly ruler-flat across the frame. Ive found this holds up in real life, images are really sharp regardless of where you look in the frame. I love the rendering - contrast, micro-contrast, color, smooth bokeh and transition zone, the images taken with the lens are always lovely and exude quality. Aberrations are well-controlled - I see no sign of spherical, chromatic, or comatic aberrations, and distortion is minimal. I can see why Fujifilm still regards this as a premium optic in the same category as their 35mm 1.4 and 23mm 1.4 lenses. Its also surprisingly small and lightweight, and I love the ability to close focus. The Bad:The autofocus speed of this lens is tricky. You need to have good light hitting your subject and you need to be about 3 feet away for good AF performance. When it gets too dim or youre too close, the AF slows down considerably. These are the rules I must obey while using it on the X-T3 or else the AF is slow to work with, otherwise its quite snappy. I feel the lens software is partly to blame here, it seems to have a dual personality depending on how close you are to the subject. But sometimes the lens tries to focus at macro distances first, and it takes about half a second for it to figure out the subject is farther away. A focus limiter switch would eliminate this and would let the photographer choose how the lens focuses. This lens is also very weak against bright light, I always keep the hood on when using it. I generally find that for backlit landscapes it can produce acceptable images as long as the sun is really low on the horizon or is just barely peeking through from behind an obstacle in the background. The Summary:Wonderful image quality and rendering. Well-controlled aberrations make for high-quality images. The only things letting this lens down are the AF performance and flare control. However, Ive found that on the X-T3 you can get snappy AF as long as youre focusing in good light and youre at least 3 ft away from your subject. This quickly became one of my favorite Fujifilm lenses despite its shortcomings because I love the images it produces and I love the ability to close focus. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, -1/2 a star due to the flare problems, but I seldom shoot backlit images at this focal length so Ill give it a 5.

Again when you fill the picture with head shot, use f2.8/4 or above. I have 90mm f2 lens, did lot of comparison with this lens. To my surprise I like the sharpness and rendering of pictures from 60mm f2.4 rather than 90mm f2. 90mm f2 shines at f2, but from f2.8 onwards I like the 60mm better. Of course, 90mm beats this in auto-focus speed, silence and WR feature. I just compared the picture quality.- like the size and weight of 60mm, when compared to 90mm f2- Since this lens is old with slow auto-focus (only in lowlight and very close focus), noise and not WR, it may not worth $650. Better to buy decent quality used ones for 400 or less.

Brilliant Lens - Superb Quality Optic

This is pretty much the only fast(ish) Fuji prime that I don't have, and as a biologist who loves macro photography, it was always something I was going to buy, but simply never got round to.Well, it takes razor sharp pics, is brilliant at close-ups (not true macro, but good enough). Is great for landscapes and portraits. Reviewers are critical of it's focus speed. I don't know what they expect - let me tell you, on my old X-T1 it focuses plenty fast enough and nails focus virtually every time with 100% accuracy. It is easy to use TTL flash with and is ultra sharp from f2.4 through to the smaller apertures. This is a gem of a lens....I have the Canon 180mm macro and 100mm macro, and have used these extensively. Finally try the Fuji XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro.
13 November 2021

The rental experience was superb. The lens was in excellent condition. However I was not as impressed with the lens as I'd hoped. I used it mounted on an XT-30 and the images generally were excellent in terms of sharpness, especially edge to edge. The ability to close-focus was also great, as you would expect from a macro lens. The overall handling was a little clunky though. The lens hood was a little too big, but I'm not a big fan of lens flare so I felt compelled to use it anyway. Also, the focal length was a little "off" for my taste, I would have preferred 70mm over 60mm. All-in-all a very good "older" lens, but it didn't quite charm me, as say my old 35mm f/1.4 does (which, I know, is a little clunky also but...).

Fuji 60mm Macro Wow factor
25 July 2017

I have joined the many long-time DSLR users who have decided to lighten their camera bags. For a long time I have been shooting with heavy pro DSLRs and glass lenses. My results have been very rewarding and satisfying, but the weight of my backpack has gotten to me. My son has a Fuji X-T1 and the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 lens which he uses as a back-up camera. I decided to take it for a spin a couple of weeks ago. Well, it was a game changer. I shot some flowers with the 35mm lens, and several shots took my breath away. So very crisp. So I decided to order the Fuji 60mm Macro to do some serious macro work. When it arrived I popped it on the X-T1, and proceded to take near duplicate shots of Stella d'Oro daylilies with the Fuji and my DSLR and f/2.8 macro lens. When it arrived I popped it on the X-T1, and proceded to take near duplicate shots of Stella d'Oro daylilies with the Fuji and my DSLR and f/2.8 macro lens. I loaded the images into Lightroom, and was not at all prepared for what I saw: the Fuji 60mm images positively blew me away with their clarity and gorgeous color, complimented by very nice bokeh at 5.6. The daylily I photographed is difficult because it is so monochromatic, and previous efforts with the DSLR have disappointed me. The Fuji 60mm Macro lens made this flower positively glow, with marked transparency and detail that I had never been able to capture. I did subsequent shots of roses using just the Fuji and the macro lens. One of the shots was exquisite, and right then I KNEW I had found a new way to enjoy my passion for photography. I have joined the many photographers who now have the Fuji mirrorless system in their camera bags. I have purchased the X-T2, and with the 60mm Macro lens (and others) in my bag I look forward to much fun without the DSLR heft.

Good but flawed, and in need of an update.

This lens is in many ways better than the 3 star rating I've given it. It's a great focal length for close up ( note not macro ) and also portrait photography. It is strangely designed in so far as the front elements protrude someway out when close focussing, and has a small 39mm lens filter size which coupled with the aforementioned design makes it more difficult to attach and use polarising and other rotary type filters. However the lens is well built and relatively light if the large standard metal lens hood is not used. My main gripe is that the lens is of the older type and is noisy and relatively slow to acquire focus. Also the lens is not weather sealed. Now that I've purchased an F2.8 Tele zoom, this lens is surplus and will shortly be sold. Sad, as I'm sure ...Β MoreThis lens is in many ways better than the 3 star rating I've given it. Sad, as I'm sure I'll at sometime in the future again hanker for a compact lightweight mid tele lens for my Fuji X cameras.

Impressive Experience
23 February 2023

Lens was great, nice bokeh, excellent macro. What was more impressive was the experience. Such an easy process, the lens was packed perfectly in a Pelican case, super easy to return, and love the funny text on the return package tape. I’ve been renting photo equipment for about 20 years, it’s never been as good as this. Thank you.

Sharp and light weight. Perfect for street photography.

I bought my first Fuji camera for the purpose of having something to take on walks and keep with me at most times. Starting out, I could only afford one lens and wanted one that didn't weigh too much and could produce beautiful images, including macros. This lens has more than met my expectations.Paired with the X-T4, it will fit in a small bag and weighs under 2lbs. I have been very impressed with the image quality. It produces tack sharp images with pleasing backgrounds. The bokeh is not as lovely as what my Nikon would produce, but then the Nikon is so heavy that it tends to sit abandoned at home. The lens will sometimes hunt a bit in low light, but it's never been so stubborn finding focus that it became a deal breaker. Well corrected lens but no macro.

Very good 60mm lens for the Fuji x-mount. Well corrected for distortion and chromatic aberrations. The lens gives a very nice 3D characteristic to your photographs and as such renders beautifully, better than the so-called Fujicrons. Downsides are the ridiculous lens hood which I leave at home and the fact that it is simply not a macro lens - it does not do 1:1 focus. Don't expect to use this without an extension tube for true macro shots. It is also worth noting that it is painfully slow to focus on older bodies such as the X-Pro1. It is much faster on the X-Pro2.
