Gardena Automatic Water Distributor
Automatically and in a row! In up to 6 areas in the garden. For example, you can water the lawn with a sprinkler, then the potted plants, beds, hedges and flower boxes with a drip irrigation system. Because the various plants in your garden require different amounts of water, the watering duration can also be individually set by programming the irrigation computer. This intelligent solution is also ideal when the available water pressure is not sufficient to water everything at the same time.

If you have lawn and vegepatch to be watered, you may consider the Jobmate dual water timer (SKU 238278) for $72.98 and join the outlets together. The frequencies of both need to be the same but the durance can be different (lawn = 2hr, vege patch = 30 min) Therefore the odd ports are for the lawn, the even ones are for the veges / flowers. If you have 3 ports for lawn but only one for veges then join the even ports together and choose 10 minutes watering time.

Thinking I only needed this distributor to automate my garden, wrong, you also need the computer controller for $175, the whole set up is very clunky, so the total cost (with fittings) will be around $300, Now, I did my front yard with a 6 station reticulation controller, with all the solenoids and fitting (given, as with the back yard, the retic was there already)fittings it cost near the same, the retic controller is a much more profesional set up, pros for the gardena set up is, you don't need mains power to run it and no wiring, so you can set it anywhere in the garden as long as you have mains water line. Cons, clunky, amateur looking set up, time will see its durability, needs more than 1 bar of water pressure, which I just have. I would recommend the reticulation set up over the gardena multi station controller and computer.

Brilliant German engineering. It uses the technique used in pens: the water pushes a spring and when the pressure drops it changes to the next port. Port 3 to 6 can be disabled which means if you only use 3 ports, it changes from port 3 to port 1 when the pressure lowers. The recommended Gardena Master computer (model 1892 and $209 at Mitre10 (SKU 347790) is only needed, if you need ports used out of order (like port 1 is used daily and port 3 is used only once a week). If you just water lawns in equal intervals, you can buy the cheapest timer available like the Job-Mate Electronic water timer (SKU 238286 for $52.98). However, make sure there is a gap of at least one minute between watering, allowing the pressure to drop and the port to be changed. To explain how ... MoreBrilliant German engineering. To explain how the Gardena master computer knows which channel to use: First, you have to select how many ports you are using (example 5). You also need to enable channel 3 to 5 on the distributer. Any unused ports need to be capped. If channel one was used (now it is set on port 2) and channel 5 is next, the computer bursts water to the distributer three times for a short time to change to port 5. Happy watering.

I bought a Gardena water distributer and controller. The controller works fine although definitely not as versatile as some other cheaper sprinkler controller. It’s dole saving grace ( and reason I bought it over the others I was actually happy with and experienced with) was it has the option of 6 zones. I needed 5 to fit my yard and water flow rate. If I added a second free standing controller I’d have to get another tap installed. The disaster is the water distributer. It requires significant pressure differentials to run the mechanism, the outlets can not be a certain height above the controller so not good if you need to water up a slope. It frequently fails to step onto the next zone. I have 5 zones attached but it will often jam on the “empty” zone. Oddly it ... MoreI bought a Gardena water distributer and controller. It requires significant pressure differentials to run the mechanism, the outlets can not be a certain height above the controller so not good if you need to water up a slope. It frequently fails to step onto the next zone. I have 5 zones attached but it will often jam on the “empty” zone. Oddly it will often jam on a zone but next time it cycles it starts off and then goes onto the next ones OK. Even when it does fully cycle all zones it just starts from where it last stopped ( eg zone3) but I want it start on zone 1 because we want zone 1 watered at a time it doesn’t inconvenience us. The manual zone watering is a disaster. You have to manually cycle to the zone you want to water, then run the manual watering time, then go back afterward and recycle the button back to zone 1 again. Otherwise it starts on the next zone. You can not do a full cycle manual water of all zones ( but that’s actually a problem of the controller not the distributer) All in all the controller ( required to run it) and the distributer don’t work as advertised. They are expensive ( more expensive than other brand controllers which have built in solenoids) but it will do 6 zones - it’s only positive note.
Bought in conjunction with the water control master timer and together they are brilliant. We previously had 4 separate timers working so being able to use one timer and one distribution system for all our garden irrigation is so much easier. Totally recommend this unit
It works, but you may need to troubleshoot switching some of the outlet hoses to different sprinklers Cetra. Make sure you follow the instructions. I don’t think the other reviewers really knew what they were doing with this unit. Finally, you don’t need the expensive tap timer that’s supposed to go with this. You can use any brand so long as you have up to 6 timer settings.
Currently doing up our garden. Planted a hedge down each side plus need the grass watered. This system does it all plus I've got a couple spare spots if I need to add further things later. Love this. Highly recommended
This thing in itself doesn't 'automatically distribute water', it requires another controller, at a cost of anywhere from $100 to $200. Also, the 'Smart' series of sensors and controllers from Gardena aren't available in Australia. For $100, this distributor is literally just a six-outlet manifold with ball valves that move to the next in sequence after a loss in pressure: no controller, no timer, no sensors. I would have been better off running a length of hose around the garden with Y joints for each zone and a separate $30 digital controller for each zone, or bite the bullet and set up a few $30 solenoids with a central controller for $90.
One of the water flow connections has a constant drip when watering is taking place. It is not always the same connection that drips. The connectors in use are newly purchased Gardena attached to new 13mm quality garden hose. Various inlet pressure settings have been tried. The leak appears to bubble up from where the O ring fits into the push-in connector. Extremely dissatisfied with this situation as the unit is fitted vertically to a fence wall so I will return it unless this can be fixed. I would prefer to speak to a Gardena person but can't see any source listed
It's taken a while to set this system up properly. The instructions aren't the best, and it is set up with 13mm feed & distribute lines. The lines have reduced the pressure from the 19mm main piping I have to each garden. However, it does do exactly what it says it will do do so I'm pretty pleased with it.
