This Garmin GPS was purchased for use in connection with a new cycle. I have several other Garmin GPS models but none would fit the new bike and none would assist with my low key fitness program. The package arrived with dead batteries in each of the 3 sensors and I had to wait for replacements to arrive before I could begin setting everything up. Overall setup has proved problematic; connections between phone, sensors and GPS has sometimes taken 30 minutes or more to complete, often requiring forgetting devices and re-instating them. But.....once set up and happy, the 1030 plus has been a joy to use. The screen is clear and readable under all weather conditions and flicking between screens using the Shimano DI2 buttons has been easy and very useful. Battery life is very good for the riding I do and it is clear that an 8 hour ride would be no problem on a single charge. Iām pleased that I have the 1030 plus but at this price point it should not be so difficult and finnicky. Once set up it should stay set up and the fact that it doesnāt, really detracts from the overall pleasure. No issues with Sigmasports, they delivered next day and I would happily purchase from them again. The issue is with Garmin, the cost of the unit and the fact that it cannot seem to connect reliably to my phone at the start of each ride.

Cycle Computer is a great addition for tracking your metrics.Packed with many features like Live tracking, which is great for someone else to monitor your ride, which I enjoy for safety. The Garmin Edge 1030plus is L 4 1/2" x W 2 1/4", which is about the same size as the older Garmin Edge 1000. The screen is bigger on the 1030 plus: 3" x 1 3/4", The edge 1000 screen is 2 1/2" x 1 1/2".On my Bike the 1030 plus sits nice inside my handlebar. The 1030 plus setup was easy, because I already had a profile, all my activities just crossed over. Good touch screen with gloves equipped with sensitivity, good battery life. Would recommendupgrading from an the older Garmin unit and adding the front light, UT800 and the rear radar unit Varia RTL515 for piece of mind if ...Ā MoreCycle Computer is a great addition for tracking your metrics.Packed with many features like Live tracking, which is great for someone else to monitor your ride, which I enjoy for safety. My old 1030 battery bloated and I needed to replace it.The initial wizard asks to import profiles, which would be better if it imported all the settings and data screens (I deleted all profiles and copied the main profile that I setup to rebuild the other profiles - indoor and mtn bike)The initial wizard asks to import sensors, which would be better if it imported any sensor at all.The segment(s) options is excessive with beeping, so i turned that off.The Strava IQ app that shows in the manual and on my old 1030, is NOT available on the 1030 plus (with the latest sw version)Ultimately it works, does what I need, and sync to all my sensors without additional user interaction.

Amazing computer with great features. See my review on the regular page for more details. This package comes with the sensors. Definitely heart rate is important to have, but if you have a Garmin watch, whoop band, or similar, you can use the heart rate from that. Speed sensor is a must for mountain biking. If you are doing XC on somewhere with a lot of speed changes or tree coverage, it can be difficult for the GPS to give an accurate reading. Speed sensor will help greatly with that. Cadence sensor is a must if you're a roadie, especially doing group rides, so you can keep a consistent pace.
Why use a cycling computer over a phone? Primary, they are way more accurate at tracking for GPS. Zoom into any recorded ride done on a cell phone and look how it jumps around. Cell phone GPS are designed to get you were you are to where you need to go. Bike GPS do that, but also make sure to record where you've been much more accurately, giving much more accurate distance, speed, ect. Better battery life, more durable in crashes. The Garmin computers can sometime be finicky with software, but overall this is an amazing computer that will last years. Often times they go on sale at places, so wait for those. Definitely get a heart rate monitor and cadence sensor with it. A power meter will also help you get the most out of it.
What a disappointing lousy āupgradeā from my Edge 1000.Gradient change reaction times are ridiculously SLOW. Like 10-15 seconds slow to react to change in slopes! Thatās crazy ā for a flagship device.Bought the Edge 1030 āplusā to replace a 1000, which was pretty decent at gradient reactivity, but its flimsy USB port broke eventually and the power on / off switch also. Planned obsolescence at its best here. Also sprang for the Varia radar 515.Who cares about all the bells and whistles if a key parameter of an expensive flagship cycling device is essentially hamstringed/hobbled??Btw ā Girlfriend bought the Edge 830 and it is just as molasses crappy slow to react to any grade changes. If knowing your riding slope % in a timely manner is important for you ā ...Ā MoreWhat a disappointing lousy āupgradeā from my Edge 1000.Gradient change reaction times are ridiculously SLOW. Useful features that make the Edge 1030 Plus very good, or the best?:1. I notice improved battery life, for example, after a 50 mile ride, the is still more than 80% battery capacity available.2. Automatic set-up from my old Edge (1030 damaged in a crash) works well and is an indispensable time-saver.3. The Edge 1030 Plus consistently works well, except for a few (so far three) inexplicable crashes/unexpected re-starts during a ride. After a spontaneous re-start, the data recording resumes without loss, although some sensors need re-connecting. I should mention that the Edge is connected to several sensors and devices on four different bicycles (including Rally power meter pedals, Stages power meter crank, Garmin and Scosche HRM's, Garmin cadence sensor, ...Ā MoreUseful features that make the Edge 1030 Plus very good, or the best?:1. Additionally, there are several widgets and apps running on the Edge. That all these work almost flawlessly together is a wonder to my mind.
I am happy to own it but as usual its navigation is still navigating in dark age. Wahoo is far superior in that respect. First you have to import your respective map and then you realise even strava routes are impossible to work on this edge. You have withdrawn Strava Route from Connect IQ store and given four bullet points as to how to download the strava route in your 1030. I tried again again but does not happen.Good thing is that the screen size is big and visible. Training workouts are inbuilt. Touch screen is smooth.
Really wanted to like this computer from everything I read before purchasing.-Maps look like something out of the 90's i.e TomTom or old mapquest. In this day and age of the types of detailed topo maps out there the garmin is joke worthy. Forget using Trailforks or Mtb project. Your location is a big blob of an arrow that looks like an old pc cursor. Simply not going to happen. There may be ways to change or load different maps if you can decipher a ton of instructions from Dc Rainmaker or elsewhere. It shouldn't be this difficult. Garmin support isn't that great either.-User interface is ridiculously clunky. Navigating for the simplest things like checking battery life is a chore. I cannot actually believe how good this device is. I have had a very faithful Garmin Edge 500 for the last ten years, never having missed a beat and still going strong. But to compare that to the Edge 1030 Plus is like comparing a Fiat Bambino to a Ferrari 812 Superfast. The advance in technology is stunning. I didn't really look at the manual too much ( but it was handy to know which button to press to start the ride ( ! ) - although I later selected the auto-start option when 10 km/h is reached ) and there seem to be things missing in the manual anyway, but I just patiently played around with the device a few times, over an hour or so, till I worked it out and from then on it became easy to find the way around. Being average only in computer stuff, it cannot be that hard if I can work it out.A few notable stand-outs ( there's so much to say I don't have time ) are the totally custom configurable ride screens, the on-screen warnings of sharp bends ahead, the ease with which sensors, like heart rate monitor and radar, are paired, the brilliant touchscreen, the way you can select the type of flash from your rear light ( if you have a Garmin light equipped radar ) on the touchscreen and, if you have the radar, the superb warnings of approaching rear traffic - the threats are made clear both by loud enough tones ( I'm half deaf ) and visually on screen. The larger screen ( which is quite a bit smaller than a typical modern mobile phone by the way ) really helps the long-sighted or those with otherwise less than perfect vision ( like me ).I have set my main ride screen to show exactly what I want and in the order I want : Distance, Speed, Calories, Heart Rate and Elapsed Time. I have another screen with more heart rate metrics shown. And other screens with other data. All user configurable and easily selected on the move by swiping the screens across.I have never looked at any other brands of cycle computer and I don't think I ever will. I expect Garmin has to be the best there is as this device is perfect.
