An amazing watch when on sale

I had a Garmin Forerunner 645 W/ music for about 1 year before buying this watch and I wanted something with more battery and better GPS. The Fnix 6 has not disappointed with an awesome battery life that is holding up well to my often 1-2 recorded activities a day. And the GPS connects quickly and I have never lost connection during my trips in the mountains alpine skiing to the woods XC skiing. I will say that this is a HEAVY watch and it took me a few days to get used to the weight but now it is just part of my wrist. Also my biggest annoyance with it is how my sleeves from jackets and clothing catch on it when I am trying to move them over the watch which is due to its rather large thickness. Though overall I love this watch and I am so happy with my purchase, BUT I would not buy this watch at full price. I have been hunting for one on sale or used and it was really worth the wait. I just couldnt justify spending $550 minimum on something that told me things I dont NEED to know, but I do love all the data it gives me :). And speaking of data this watch has so many different metrics and activities which can be overwhelming at first but after some use it is easy to navigate. With all fitness watches take all the metrics with a grain of salt but they do seem pretty accurate when I cross-reference them. Definitely try the watch on before buying! I have rather small wrists and the watch is the width of my wrist! Doesnt bother me at all but something to keep in mind. Finally I recommended a screen protector and even a bezel protector if you climb! My first day of ownership I scratched the bezel and one of the top screws by accidentally scraping it against a climbing wall, just cosmetic damage but if you are particular then a $7 case will go a long way. Also one of the photos is my Forerunner 645 next to the fnix, and as you can see the fnix is significantly bigger and I would say double the weight. The last photo is also my fnix with the case on it, something I always put on if I climb with my watch on.

Good battery life but mediocre as a running watch

I've been using Fenix 6X Sapphire for nearly 2 years. On paper this sounded like a perfect watch for ultra and trail running - long battery life, maps on board, navigation feature, built-in barometer, etc.In reality almost none of the running and navigation features work well and there are multiple issues that Garmin has been unable to resolve for two years I've been using the watch. The running pace accuracy is very bad, borderline unusable and easily worst of all GPS watches that I ever used. Navigation is often misleading. For example the watch can tell me that a right turn is coming when in fact the course is supposed to take a trail to the left. Distance is consistently short when when running on trails. The distance is short even compared to the track that the watch records itself. The optical HR monitors is unusable for running activities, but most of them are. The map has very poor contrast and is unusable when running. Most of the time when running in a forest I basically can't see anything on it unless I fully stop. That is because all the lines for trails and forest roads are so thin and the choice of colors is poor. Strava Live Segments, which is one of the premium features of this watch is so unreliable that it fails more than 50% of time when running on trails.Basically if you want this watch to wear it to a gym or play golf, then perhaps it is OK, but as a trail running watch it is very mediocre - even worse that Garmin's entry level devices.

Now my light is flickering when I try to turn it on, which doesn't help since the face is kind of hard to see to begin with. So far everything still works other than that. As for the watch itself, as I said I couldn't be happier with the features and fitness tracking, gps works great, complete with maps after the fact of where you went. Great Device - Not a Smartwatch

This watch is incredible at doing what it is instructed of doing but I believe lacks modern-day features. On an Apple Watch, I can see the weather app which shows a live radar. On Garmin, you have to pay for a third party provider which only works when connected to the phone. Bluetooth connection is a big issue. I can only use Bluetooth when I'm within several feet of my phone. Storm-Alert Mode did nothing except beep at me when there were no storms to be seen. I imagine it detects barometric pressure readings. Quick responses to text messages or being able to talk to the watch (siri / google) kind of stinks. Again, maybe a smartwatch is a better purchase for me, but for $850+ it should do these things when Apple can do these things for $350.There are many others ... MoreThis watch is incredible at doing what it is instructed of doing but I believe lacks modern-day features. Again, maybe a smartwatch is a better purchase for me, but for $850+ it should do these things when Apple can do these things for $350.There are many others to list that you would see from a modern day smartwatch. Now to the good:The battery life is incredible. Charged probably once every week or week and a half. The amount of data on the watch and the app during workout modes is insane. Love the VO2 max data, love the different trends and insights available for each of my workouts. For crossfit I just used the cardio mode.Loved how I can customize what I see on the watch face during a run as apposed to an Apple watch where it is just set for you.Premium materials. This watch is not someone who is looking for a smartwatch combined with an activity watch. This watch is for someone who doesn't care about anything I listed above, but purely wants to use the watch to track workouts. Again, I probably will lean more towards to smartwatch simply because my Apple watch can do a lot of what the garmin can do, but it also has many other features that Garmin does not. ECG anyone? Apple can track irregular heartbeat, garmin just tracks unusual high heart rate.

I'm not a techie and bought this on the recommendation of a techie friend! Haven't regretted it and with the help of YouTube managed to master all the programmes I need. There are modes for everything and the map feature is really good. In the various modes, say for example the swimming one, it thinks of everything, not just stop/start but resume, save, recovery, discard etc and once one has mastered which buttons do what it's easy, needs practice.I've linked it to my iPhone 13 and it's seamless.I had an iWatch some years ago that turned into an iBracelet when the waterproofing failed, and although bigger, this knocks spots off it.Very pleased with the purchase as it was reduced in price.

I've never actually had to adjust the angle or lighting to see unless it is reflecting the sun into my face, just like I would have to with literally any other watch. And no, this is not like the apple watch. If you want a watch that is great at sending texts and answering phone calls, by all means that may be for you. If you want a serious activity tracker that can withstand a ton of abuse and will give you incredibly accurate metrics, then this is the watch for you. I had an apple watch for years and wish I never wasted the money. If you're thinking about getting this, do yourself a favor and do it already! Worst case, you take advantage of REI's generous return policy.

The larger screen is especially useful for all the additional data fields you can add to the activity screens. Totally Amazing and Everything they say is true!

I have only had the watch for a short time, but have used it extensively experimenting with as many of the apps as possible to become familiar with its capabilities. Everything works amazingly well, and intuitively once I got used to using buttons rather than a touch screen. However, what most amazed me is the battery life. I haven't removed any other installed apps and ran them all in one way or another. I have it connected to my phone with notifications running all of the time. Everything works amazingly well, and intuitively once I got used to using buttons rather than a touch screen. However, what most amazed me is the battery life. I haven't removed any other installed apps and ran them all in one way or another. I have it connected to my phone with notifications running all of the time. This watch, after 6 days, showed 74% of the battery charge still present, and 15 days before it would likely need to be recharged. It gives me a lot of confidence that it will always be ready when I need it.This is an amazing instrument worth every penny. I know that there is a new model 7 in the offing, but, frankly, I cannot imagine that there could be much more that it could offer than what this one already does. I particularly like the Sapphire crystal and DLC bezel, and found them to be worth the additional cost to me, but any model of this watch is far superior to anything else available and should be the first choice of any multisport athlete looking for a new watch.

Truly the ultimate upgrade
23 December 2021

I have owned four Garmin activity monitor watches. With each one I have been willing to spend a little more than I did previously. And each time I have not been unhappy with the results. This watch not only met all of my expectations, but exceeded them. I had gotten used to a touch screen interface and was be nervous about going back to buttons. What I discovered very quickly was how intuitive the design of this watch was. It was very easy to transition to its use when doing weight training or elliptical exercise. I use an Edge 1030 for cycling, but I am certain that this watch would be excellent for that purpose as well. The various other functions, particularly the widgets are really easy to use and a major upgrade over previous watches. I haven't used the ... MoreI have owned four Garmin activity monitor watches. I haven't used the navigation functions yet, but I feel confident that they will be as easy to learn to use as the rest of the watches functions. All of this is to say nothing about the aesthetics of the watch. I wore a Rolex Submariner for more than 50 years. All it did was tell the time, and that far less accurately than advertised. However, I got used to the feel of a large, heavy watch on my wrist. This is not a heavy as the Rolex, but it has sufficient heft to satisfy my need. The large screen makes it really easy to read notifications and other information with my aged eyes. The sapphire crystal is clear and beautiful, as is the Diamond-like Carbon bezel both of which are unlikely to be damaged or show wear and tear. The battery is amazing. I was used to having to recharge my earlier watches every couple of days. This watch goes on and on. The display says 21 days following a full charge, and the count down in days seems in congruence with that. Due to a couple of updates I had to plug the watch in to the computer before it needed a recharge, so I have never tested its ability to last out the full three weeks between charges, but I had already exceeded by several days the longest periods I had gone on my previous models between charges, and the watch showed more than two weeks left on the current charge.I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed owning a watch more than this one. I highly recommend it to anyone who lives and active lifestyle and wants a watch that can not only keep up, but can enhance the experience.

good choice for everyday and hiking
6 January 2022

I bought this in Dec 2021 and I have been using it for a month. It was a little confusing what one to buy because it wasn't exactly clear to me if all of the Fenix 6X were pro (i.e. includes all of the maps or only the solar version). I bought the Sapphire since I wanted the durability and the Solar does not give a huge boost in battery life. It was a little tricky to figure out how to launch activities, save the data etc but once I had that figure out it seems to work great. the other apps that support the watch like Basecamp, connect, explore etc. are useful but not really straight forward to use. I have been planning a route using basecamp and I have had lots of issues with building the route, saving it, transferring it to the watch. I think this should be way more straight forward than it is.Otherwise, I like the watch, I like the large dial. The watch faces that are available are good and I am still looking for the one that really meets my needs.I think the watch is very expensive, however it does have many functions and it is a nice basic looking watch. If you want a watch that you would wear everyday and enjoy the ability to navigate your hiking route and record your activities, this meets all of the criteria.
