For the price this watch falls way short! The display is horrible at best. Something that I would have expected from a smart watch from 10 years ago. Resolution is just terrible. The brightness even on 100% setting is dim. To the point I actually thought it was broken because it was so dim. The navigation is difficult at best. Especially when you factor in that it's not a touch screen. Would be a little better if they would combine all of the watches settings into the app on your phone because with the extremely cumbersome navigation using only buttons on the watch you spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to get back to something or undo something that you just did because you hit the wrong button. Definitely returning this overpriced product. Gave it 2 ... MoreFor the price this watch falls way short! The display is horrible at best. Gave it 2 stars because I didn't have it for more than a couple days as it was basically a gadget on my arm that vibrated sometimes & I wasn't even able to use it as watch because you can't see the display so I returned it before I was able to see if it was durable & rugged which is waht lead me to this watch to begin with. Garmin absolutely missed the mark on this one.

The Fnix 6 has not disappointed with an awesome battery life that is holding up well to my often 1-2 recorded activities a day. And the GPS connects quickly and I have never lost connection during my trips in the mountains alpine skiing to the woods XC skiing. I will say that this is a HEAVY watch and it took me a few days to get used to the weight but now it is just part of my wrist. Also my biggest annoyance with it is how my sleeves from jackets and clothing catch on it when I am trying to move them over the watch which is due to its rather large thickness. Though overall I love this watch and I am so happy with my purchase, BUT I would not buy this watch at full price. I have been hunting for one on sale or used and it was really worth the wait. I just couldnt justify spending $550 minimum on something that told me things I dont NEED to know, but I do love all the data it gives me :). And speaking of data this watch has so many different metrics and activities which can be overwhelming at first but after some use it is easy to navigate. With all fitness watches take all the metrics with a grain of salt but they do seem pretty accurate when I cross-reference them. Definitely try the watch on before buying! I have rather small wrists and the watch is the width of my wrist! Doesnt bother me at all but something to keep in mind. Finally I recommended a screen protector and even a bezel protector if you climb! My first day of ownership I scratched the bezel and one of the top screws by accidentally scraping it against a climbing wall, just cosmetic damage but if you are particular then a $7 case will go a long way. Also one of the photos is my Forerunner 645 next to the fnix, and as you can see the fnix is significantly bigger and I would say double the weight. The last photo is also my fnix with the case on it, something I always put on if I climb with my watch on.

The only objection is that the face is not bright enough unless you're in bright sunlight. You can increase the brightness of the back light, but you need to turn on the back light to really see the watch face if the watch is in any type of low light/shadow conditions. My old Garmin Fenix was much easier to see in lower lighting. Also, the watch tends to drift over towards the outside of the wrist once strapped on, which makes it more difficult to see while riding a bike without turning the wrist over quite a bit. Also, battery management adjustments will disconnect your phone without telling you and when that happens your customers faces disappear as well. Took me quite a while to figure that out, since it was not mentioned in the manual. All in all, I am quite happy.

Great watch for the price and features it provides
6 March 2022

This is my fourth Garmin watch. Each model being different, they all have something to offer. This is not a smart watch how we might expect it to be but is still loaded with features and, has the ability to download more from the Connect store. Why did I buy this one? I was looking for a durable outdoor watch that had the features (I) was looking for. I consider this watch to be a combination of my Instinct and Vivoactive 4. It feels to be durable as all get out but has smart features such as Garmin Pay, Hydration tracking, ability to downloaded unlimited watch faces (plus more). This is NOT a touch screen watch like my Vivoactive 4. All functions are controlled via buttons on the unit. The controls are solid and exhibit positive engagement.Love the 1.3” screen. No chance I can’t see the data I am looking for (even in low light).Battery life is great and I am getting a solid couple of weeks between charges so far.Tons of other features I have yet to try but know they are available should I need (want) them. All in all, I would recommend. Go Garmin!

Nice upgrade
1 February 2022

I recently upgraded from the Garmin 920xt that I have used for many years. The fenix 6 has all the same basic functions plus a whole lot more. Some of the buttons are in different positions and some of the menus are arranged differently, so it took a little getting used to. Some of the features I like: 1. Much longer battery life. On watch mode, a single charge will last for 2 weeks instead of 2 or 3 days. Using GPS and other features during an activity, it will last for more than a day. So, it easily has enough battery capacity to last for a full Ironman. 2. Activity screens are very customizable. I like that I can choose to display 3 metrics (i.e. HR, pace, distance) and have the most important one (i.e. pace) be in the middle, larger than the other two. The watch face is very customizable. I think there are 3 or 4 metrics that can be shown and anything the watch measures can be displayed on the watch face: steps, HR, altitude, weather, etc. 4. There are a ton of activities incorporated into the watch in addition to the standard swim, bike run: golf, hiking, climbing, etc. 4. You can get notifications: texts, new podcasts, etc. on the watch face without pulling out your phone. 5. Wrist based HR-no more straps. 6. Good looking watch. And, you can buy straps in many different colors and materials online. Easy to switch out; no dealing with pins and tools. The one complaint I have is that there is not available a quick release accessory for triathlon. Unlike my 920xt, I can't quickly remove the watch from the band in T1 and snap it onto my bike and re-attach it to the band in T2. Because of the HR sensor on the back of the watch, it may not be possible to design one of these. There is an available bike mount. The straps are designed to be removed quickly and then you can click the watch into the mount. But, it is not something I would want to be doing in a triathlon transition.

One of the best fitness trackers on the market
29 September 2021

One of the best fitness and adventure trackers on the market. It has an impressive ammount of features and options for just about any kind of activity you could possibly want to track. If you can buy it on special as I did then its much better value.I've mostly used it for tracking walks, hikes, climbs, bike rides, workouts and even the Apple pay function but will eventually try to use more like tracking swimming and surfing. I also like that it syncs with Strava so that I can keep track of everything and share them with my friends. There are additional apps like tide and weather that I'm also using. The buttons also take a bit of getting use to given there are 5 of them, but I think they can be configured to suit my requirements and will play around with them one day.All in all, I give this watch 4.5 stars out of 5.

Screen is VERY dull outside of bright light
12 October 2022

Just picked this up to replace my dead Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and the first thing i noticed was how dim the screen is on the Garmin. Before you jump on this saying it is meant to be used outside in bright light, yes I did realize that! However the way the screen is represented on both the Best Buy AND Garmin webpages you would think, from the photos, that it would be super bright and have vibrant colours. This is not the case and it is disappointing for a wearable at this price. I would have been supremely disappointed had I bought the full on Solar/Sapphire model for over 1,000.00. Lots of metrics on this, plenty of exercise types on board and mega long battery life (guess that's what you get for a dim screen) but navigation through the OS using 5 buttons and no ... MoreJust picked this up to replace my dead Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and the first thing i noticed was how dim the screen is on the Garmin. I think this one is going back. If Garmin made a more reasonably bright screen with touch capabilities they would have an absolute undefeatable monster of a smart/fitness watch. For now it's just a Squanch in Gazorpazorp clothing!

Solid, reliable watch with a few quirks
3 May 2022

I bought the Fenix 6 as an upgrade from the Forerunner 235 to use primarily for running and occasionally walking. I've been very pleased with the short GPS sync time and the accuracy of the mapping for my activities. Very happy with the battery life, it seems much longer than my 235. The menus seem slightly more intuitive than the 235. Notifications work great on this watch and I'm very pleased how they're implemented. It is rarely accurate even though it is supposed to automatically calibrate using the GPS location at the beginning of a run. I usually start and stop my runs at the same location and the altitude is frequently different by as much as 10-20 feet. I have little confidence that the altimeter would be useful during activities such as mountain hiking where knowing the exact altitude is very important. For road running, it's just a "nice to have" feature so it's not a big deal. I'm also not sure that the Pulse OX measurement is accurate so I've given up trying to use that feature. Finally, the screen is OK but sometimes hard to read indoors. Looking forward to the day when watches with great screens also have long battery life.

Very Pleased!

I have owned several smart watches and historically, have been a hardcore Fitbit connoisseur. However, when my most recent Fitbit died (it was only 6 weeks old), I decided it was time to start researching all of the available brands. The Apple’s newest release (Series 7) seemed like great choice, as it is very compatible with my iPhone - I went so far as to go into a box store to purchase it but they were only taking back orders. While there, I took a closer look at the Garmin lineup and I am so very glad I did!If you’re used to a smart watch with a touch screen, you’re in for a bit of a learning curve, as the commands / applications on the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro rely on physically pushing the buttons. Having said this, spending some time familiarizing yourself with the features pays dividends. The applications on the Garmin are far more detailed and thorough than any other smart watch I’ve used. One of my favorite features is the ability to set the watch face to a fancy analog screen (like an old school watch) and then when necessary, within a few seconds, I can switch to a digital clock face containing everything from my heart rate, the weather / temperature, gps and so many other features. All the other features of a smart watch are included in the Fenix 6 as well: text, call and email notifications, as well as calendar reminders and pop ups for things such app updates, etc.The Fenix 6 pro is a bit bigger and heavier than other watches I’ve owned but the larger screen makes viewing all of the details so much easier at a glance.I am still experimenting with all of the applications but I’ve installed and run just about all of them throughout each day and the battery life is very impressive - I’m averaging about a 7-8 days between charging. To summarize, I am very pleased with my Garmin smart watch. Even on sale, it was more money than other smart watches I was looking at and was a bit of a gamble for me but it truly paid off and I’m so glad invested in the Fenix 6 Pro.

Well worth it now

Great watch. Has more features than you could possibly need. I bought it to replace my Garmin S60 golf watch, and to give me some fitness tracking options. It certainly does that. I contemplated the fenix 7, but the extra outlay couldn't be justified. I would prefer the touch screen which my S60 had and the fenix 7 has, but asides from that and the extended battery life there's no reason to spend an extra 300 for me. The fenix 6 has a huge feature list and works really well. I love it. 1 star deduction possibly unfair but it is for the missing touch screen which was available to Garmin as my S60 was older. They obviously held it back as an upgrade to tempt people to get the 7.
