Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar Black

Been using this watch as a multi-sport athlete for a couple months now. I upgraded from the Garmin Instinct, which was a good watch too and did the basics for everything.I decided to upgrade to this 955 solar to assist in diving a lot deeper into training and metrics and it provides that tenfold. I also purchased the HR-Pro heart rate monitor, also a great compliment tool for training. One complaint I have is the lack of upload from a pool session which perplexed me. I notice the 955 drops BT connection during swim sessions, which makes some sense, but then doesnt connect back when the session is over it appears. So, when the pool session is “complete” the upload seems to be stuck in limbo and is never uploaded. I notice the 955 drops BT connection during swim sessions, which makes some sense, but then doesnt connect back when the session is over it appears. So, when the pool session is “complete” the upload seems to be stuck in limbo and is never uploaded. A work around for this is to connect the USB cable to your PC and then pull the file over from the watch folder to Garmin Connect and then the session is uploaded. So, its clear there is a bug there for pool sessions and this series of watch. What I do now, before I finalize a pool session is go to bluetooth and manually reconnect the watch and then “save” the session, so far, zero problems doing this method. But onwards about the watch features are great, of course the “training readiness” is a little dramatic in my opinion. I was knee deep in training when I bought the watch and ever since its told me I am supposed to rest for 2-3-4 days to be “effective”…..yeah, nah, I can’t do that. But I suppose it’ll work itself out over the next few month to a year to learn “me” and how “ready” I can be.Touch screen is really legit, works as it should and I like it from a quick switch through screens while active in a training session. Not entirely sold on the solar function. Seems like it helps keep some battery life I suppose a little longer than others. But my instinct didnt require as much charging as this watch has already had. But, this watch is pulling a lot more metrics behind the scenes, so it’s draining the battery it seems.Quick insert is the weight is basically nothing and the watch face is a great size. (I read a few concerns about the size and weight and thought I’d end up with a heavy watch. Its not heavy in the slightest to me.)All in all I’m still brand new with the watch and haven't even scratched the surface of all the potential features, but I am happy with the purchase but think I could have saved a little bit of money by just getting the 955 non-solar.

I bought the 955 Solar and used it for a few weeks. I had a 935 previously. I liked some of the new capabilities compared to 935 but didn't find any of them essential. The big issue was battery life. I was getting 5-6 days from 100% to 5% battery. This was much lower than my 935 which consistently got 10-11 days. For context, I was not using GPS and the only activity I was recording was 30 minutes of stationary bike (peleton) every other day due to weather outside. If i had used it for a bike ride or swim with GPS I expect I would have gotten more like 4 days of battery life. Not sure why it was so poor, I used the stock setting that the watch came form. I also had an issue with the bottom button on the left side of the watch. It would make a loud clicking sound and ... MoreI bought the 955 Solar and used it for a few weeks. I had a 935 previously. I also had an issue with the bottom button on the left side of the watch. It would make a loud clicking sound and get stuck every once in a awhile. My experience was that battery life is not as advertised in real everyday use and The 735 was a MUCH better watch from build quality to battery life. I would not recommend 935.

Just got the Forerunner 955 solar and HRM pro to help with my training for a couple of ultra’s next year. Firstly I have to say having come from a Iwatch 7 I was a little concerned I would hate the screen. I shouldn’t have worried the screen is actually really clear even with backlight at 20% and still perfectly usable without while out running. Battery life again having come from the Iwatch has blown my mind. Build quality is every bit what you would expect from a Garmin product that is to say excellent!I’m still learning the system so can’t go into the data fields but again it does way more than I need.Overall I can’t recommend this watch enough. Only criticism from me is the strap. Only criticism from me is the strap. I swapped it out for a few third party quick change straps like found on the Fenix range. But this is a very minor criticism and most people would be very happy with the quality standard strap.
