Drastic performance drop

Honestly, I'm not too fond of this router. I have other Google Nest products such as the camera and hubs, and they perform very well. This AP advertises at least 1,500 sq. ft. of coverage, however, I find that to be a little bit of an exaggeration. I'm in a 1,000 sq. ft. apartment with a pretty open floor plan. I connected it to my T-Mobile Home 5G router and noticed a dramatic decrease in performance.Speed tests from T-Mobile to Google Point were approx. 913/102. Speed tests from the Google point to my devices were about 80/7 and very unstable. I tried several different settings, but nothing changed. I liked the idea of having real-time info about the devices, speeds, etc, but that benefit does not outweigh the performance drop. Thinking if the signal wouldn't penetrate the metal shell of the camper I'd run a wire out to it. Turns out that is not a problem at all! Plus the big gains are at Wifi7 and the 6ghz signal but that has a really short range so it wouldn't reach my camper anyway and I'd be connecting on 5ghz or 2.4ghz so it'd be newer hardware on the older standard. Why pay for the newer standard when I won't use it?As for speed, this is rated for 1.2Gbps. That's a lot of speed, more than enough so actual performance depends on your ISP and what other issues you have in your house that could limit your speed.Installation was really easy. Download the app on your phone and it walks you through the process. All three of these pucks are the same, so just grab one as your starting point and install it where the modem is. You can connect these with an ethernet cable (aka backhaul cable) but I did not. I installed one in the living room in the center of the house. I installed one in the far corner of the kitchen and one in the far bedroom (nearest my camper) so these are in kind of a diagonal line across my home. The first one took maybe 5 minutes to install and the other two take half that time. You are supposed to mount these high up but one of mine is low and the other two are medium and it works great. My signal in the camper/office is great. Before I would have brief dropped connections all the time and bandwidth was definitely impacted, now it is stable and quick. My desk is about 35 feet from the puck but that is through a concrete block wall and a metal camper shell. I was really worried about the metal camper shell since that really is a big hinderance to wireless signals but it's been great.Honestly, I would go with a good brand Wifi5 over an unknown brand wifi6 or wifi7.All in all, fantastic product. Works great and don't be turned off that it is wifi5. If you are looking I would go with either wifi5 or wifi7. While wifi6 is good I don't think it's worth the hype or expense compared to wifi5. Wifi7 though has a lot of newer/better features so if you can use wifi7 it's worth the upgrade. That's my $0.02, hopefully that helps you

Increased signal strength immediately! No router

I was able to return my router to my cable provider after I purchased these. It’s easy to install but you will need a modem. I used my modem provided by my cable company and these three points. It increases my download speed by 100 mbps and upload speed by 9. That’s super fast! You will have to reconnect all of your devices in your home to the new network. My only issue was I had a problem getting one of my wifi cameras to connect to these since it requires the 2.4 ghz network. These are dual-band but for some reason everything else connects seamlessly instead of one camera which requires 2.4 instead of 5 ghz. I think I’m staying or correctly? Forgive me if I’m not lol. After having a satellite internet system installed, I was somewhat surprised to find that the receiving modem/router was not very powerful. It pretty much worked as advertised: one unit wired into the satellite router, the other two strategically dispersed around the house. Voila! The only hassle I might be experiencing is that I have two mesh systems: the Google and a Vilo mesh. I suspect they sometimes interfere with each other, but the problem seems to be more on Vilo side than the Google side. Mesh systems are *supposed* to be able to play nice with other mesh systems and I haven't been able to pin down exactly what causes the problems (wifi connectivity with no or delayed internet access, occasional blank on wifi at all, odd pauses in operation...) or, indeed if it is a mesh interference issue. The systems are supposed to switch channels if there are collisions. I do know that most problems seemed to clear up when I stopped auto band steering on the Vilo system and just use the 5g.So I'm not laying any blame on the Google mesh.

Reliable Internet for Entire House!

I already had the Google Mesh set up in my house for the last few years. The setup is easy and if you’re trying to extend your Wi-Fi range around those spots in the house that you may be having trouble with, Google Mesh solves that issue. It’s reliability is excellent and it gives you the option to control and make adjustments right from your phone. I’ve been using it for the last five years and am using the original mesh, not the newer version. The mesh will give you service from basement to attic without a hiccup. Definitely recommend it, if there are areas of your house that are troublesome. It also allows you to prioritize specific connections. So if you or your kids are gamers, this unit might just be the extra bandwidth you need. The only consideration is how many you should have, which is usually determined by the size and/or layout of your home.

Set up with older version IOS!
24 December 2022

This is my second set. I needed more range for my 2 story home and three were not enough now that we have more Wifi items, so now, a coupIe of years later, I purchased 3 more. Went to set them up and issues!! Google issues. IOS issues. Google updated their software to Google Home and Apple now has IOS 16. Well, after SEVERAL hours of frustration and resetting my ENTIRE WiFi system, they still would not connect! Not even my original 3! I read the many complaints from people who had the same issues. Tried different solutions and NOTHING worked until.....I read someone used an old IPad that was running on an older IOS and BAM! Connected like it was suppose to easy peasy! If using an updated IOS, they would not connect. But once connected, they work great!

Solves my wireless AND wired internet issues
20 November 2021

I've forever struggled with internet for my living room entertainment center. I need wired and wireless internet. I've used a variety of extenders and a powerline ethernet adapter. Recently had my Linksys router/extender die so I decided to try the Google Wifi, specifically because each mesh point has a LAN adapter. I have a big house, the router is in the front office. To complete the mesh and keep strong connection I had to place the second in the middle of the first floor outside of the kitchen, then the third one on the entertainment system. The good part is this has completed my wireless needs throughout the first floor and second floor without needing to add extra mesh points. To complete the mesh and keep strong connection I had to place the second in the middle of the first floor outside of the kitchen, then the third one on the entertainment system. The good part is this has completed my wireless needs throughout the first floor and second floor without needing to add extra mesh points. The GREAT is my stereo receiver connects to the LAN of the mesh point in the living room and it maintains consistent connectivity for streaming and control from the MARANTZ app. We have 500/500 internet and amazingly my laptop gets 500/500 in my office both wired AND wireless which is incredible. I can't get 500 wireless when connecting directly to the router which blows my mind. Setup is incredibly easy. Any walking around idiot can set this up. The only negative and the reason for only four stars, is as you travel farther away from the main router the internet speed decreases. I can get 500 next to the initial mesh router, next to the second one it decreases to around 180-200 which is still more than most people need, then decreases again next to the third to only 80mbps. Still, plenty fast for 99.9% of people and applications. I frequently download and upload a lot of raw football video files for work which would account for that .1%, but I also don't work in my living room, but it's worth noting for this review. For the price, the LAN connectivity, ease of setup, and consistent wireless connectivity throughout the home, this is definitely worth the price. One final negative is Best Buy doesn't sell the Outlet Holder Mount for this version of Google Wifi. However, trusty Amazon has them for $11.

These wifi extenders are great and so is Geek Squa
15 April 2023

I am not a computer person and got these only because the Geek Squad tech recommended them and said Installation was free. I am very happy with these extenders. I have a 2 story house and all my ‘gear’ (routers, WAP unit, etc.) are on the second story far west side of the house. My den, where we spend most of the time is on first floor, far east side of house. It was getting to the point where my iPhone couldn’t get a wifi signal in the den! And some streaming channels, like Paramount Plus would keep buffering or just not open. Ever since Geek Squad set up the extenders, wifi is great, streaming is very good and so we, are happy. I get my moneys worth from being a Geel Squad member and from the products they select for me and install properly.
