When I first started breastfeeding/pumping I did not know how to use this properly. After a little research (and a few helpful videos) the Haakaa was a staple in my routine when it came to pumping and getting engorgement under control! The easiest way to avoid the “learning curve” is start out using slowly and not for an extended period (fully emptying). Fold the flap completely down and squeeze before applying it to yourself. Once everything is in place comfortably, release over the breast and slowly fold the flap up onto yourself. This should help avoid discomfort and create a nice suction for natural flow!

I now own 3 Haakaas with the suction base. This product is something you don’t know you need until you have it. Having more than one allowed me to have one in the fridge to cool the milk between feedings, but I still always had a clean one. When breastfeeding you just place it on your alternate breast while your child nurses and it collects all the milk that would have otherwise gone into your bra. I couldn’t believe how much milk I was able to collect without really trying. It’s great for those late night feeds too, because it’s silent. Overall I would absolutely recommend this product. Bonus tip: if you have 2, put them on while you shower.

This is the only pump I’ve used with my second baby. I cannot live without my haakaa pumps!! They are so easy and effective! I use them whenever I feel full or on the opposite side when I’m nursing. I love how they suction on and collect the milk. They’re comfortable and easy to clean! Even great for treating mastitis with water and Epsom salts! Also great for long car rides!! I can’t say enough good things!

Okay, as a breastfeeding mom of two, totaling almost 4 years of breastfeeding, let me just say WOW! The Haakaa is literally a game changer. When you have a newborn, your boobs go through a really leaky couple of months before your milk regulates. Pop the Haakaa on the free boob while you nurse, and collect all of the milk that would have otherwise been wasted leaking into your bra or pad. Feeling engorged? Haakaa! Need to pump and don’t have an electricity source? Haakaa. Need a travel size pump that you can always take on the go? Haakaa. My Haakaa would produce more milk than my expensive electric Spectra 2 could ever produce. This is my most recommended product for new breastfeeding moms! What a fantastic invention, honestly! So simple, cheap and effective. As most mums know, in the very early days of breastfeeding how much wastage goes through our bras, clothes and those nursing pads (absorbing precious golden milk). A Haakaa is a MUST for any new mum planning to breastfeed. I love started pack these in pamper gifts as they are so cheap to buy and so much more effective compared to a electric pump (if for the purpose of collecting milk during a feed). All you need to do is put this on the breast whilst bub is feeding from the other and the suction will just start to collect the natural let down. I would generally collect between 20-80ml just by it being on my breast. No sucking/pulling like a electric does. Highly, highly recommend.
I’d always recommend for first time moms who are looking to BF to use this product. It provides great suction on the boob you attach it to while nursing on the other. It’s a great source of collecting milk letdown/extra milk while breastfeeding baby directly on boob. It has great accessories such as the flower stopper to prevent milk spilling when placing the haakaa down after use. This product is also amazing when experiencing mastitis or clogged ducts. Add some epsom salt in the Haakaa mixed in with warm warm and provides relief on your clogged milk. 10/10 recommend
I was prone to getting blocked ducts with both kids. If you know, you know! This is the worst feeling and can be extremely painful. I had the Haakaa as I would use it from time to time when I was either breastfeeding or using my single pump. I quickly learned that with warm water, Epsom salt and the Haakaa you can clear a clogged duct. This was my new go to and saved my life (and boobs!) more then I can count. It was also super handy to have for when I was using my single pump or breastfeeding, I could easily place it on my other without fear of it coming off.
I used this a lot when I was pumping to collect colostrum before giving birth. So I was excited to try it while breastfeeding. My baby squirms around so it got kicked off often while full of milk (so upsetting) and when I was able to pin it between my baby and me it got pinched off or squished so much it hurt my nipple. Otherwise I double pump, so not really useful at this point. I also find it hard to get a comfortable amount of suction when engorged. Pretty much became useless overnight. The lady bug thing Haakaa makes is way too big to be comfortable. Got the Elvie catch instead and those are exactly what I need.
Whoever invented this…thank you!! So I’m a first-time breastfeeding mom and an experienced mom, as well as my lactation consultants recommended this product strongly…I think it can’t hurt to get such a cheap product and gonna be honest I was skeptical at first…so my story was my baby had tongue tie issues and it took us 2 weeks to find out and get a procedure done which to that point, 60% of the milk supply was destroyed and baby was basically taking formula all the time. I really wanted to give it a shot again re: low breast milk supply after the baby tongue tie was fixed and was suggested that I should pump as often as I can. I hated the electronic pumps (I purchased a medela and a spectra…I’m super serious about breastfeeding and both hurt like hell and can’t get ... MoreWhoever invented this…thank you!! I hated the electronic pumps (I purchased a medela and a spectra…I’m super serious about breastfeeding and both hurt like hell and can’t get much out.) so I started feeding baby and hook this thing on the other side…weirdest thing happened and I started to lactate naturally when baby starts suction on the other side! This thing really helped with emptying the breast and thus has boosted my production greatly. It’s now 7:23 in the morning and I was able to collect almost 5 oz from two feedings through the night, and during daytime I get about an oz each feeding from the haakaa, that’s 10+ oz per day just with the haakaa!! So happy about it!!
I purchased this after trawling through reviews to figure out if this would be a suitable, portable option for expressing on my return to work. Lots of ladies had commented that it was so good they'd thrown away their electric pump so I was optimistic. Perhaps if you had a desk job and could just leave this on it might be ok? But the gentle, constant suction is inadequate to efficiently extract milk. It might work to catch let down on the opposite side, but the ladybug (which I adore) does this job perfectly. Unfortunately this was a wasted purchase for me.
