This chair is worth the money. It's light and it is fairly compact and it's comfortable, more comfortable than the REI Flexlite Air, IMO. What makes this worth the money is that it's so light and compact, you can take it with you..just in-case. We've used this at people's back yard parties when they didn't have enough chairs. I sat it in at the park for about 3 hours while reading when I didn't want sit on a bench. The chair feels stable and solid. I would have liked to try the high back version, but this one does give some back support and allow you to stretch your legs out. I do recommend that you either make yourself a ground foot-print for mud or sand, or buy one. The legs will sink in soft dirt. I find the chair very narrow and even though I am not a large person, the chair sides feel like I am cramped compared to other chairs. The head rest could use more padding as the bar is hard on the head. It sits very low to the ground which I do not mind, but it might be a disadvantage if I wanted to use it at an outdoor concert. I thought my chair was going to be black, but I guess I must have ordered the gray (black and white pattern.) Other chairs of similar style are offered in more colour range than just gray or black. Well as least the legs are blue. It is very light and that is good, but the weightlessness makes the chair easier to tip over and more difficult to get out of. This chair is game changer! Yes the price is a bit steep but if you want a light chair that isn't going to weigh down your pack you should probably just bite the bullet and get the chair zero. It is quite a bit lighter and packs down a lot smaller than other camp chairs. For the longest time I never brought a chair on canoe trips and would be stuck sitting on a log or rock. Having a chair that packs down to nothing is the best piece of gear to bring along with you. Back support!!!!!! I have used it on uneven ground, sand and snow. Even when it sinks into the ground and you are pretty well sitting on the ground at that point, you still have back support :) or you can get the ground sheet for it so you don't sink...I have also gotten a few small burn holes in the ... MoreThis chair is game changer! Lightweight and Sturdy!
12 October 2022

I bought this chair to take on a multi-night backpacking trip. I was a little concerned about some of the reviews based on seating angle and possible tipping back. I actually bought this and the Nemo Moonlite at the same time because I liked the lighter weight of the Chair Zero, but thought the reclining feature of the Nemo might be worth the extra 15 ounces.I found the Chair Zero to be more comfortable and easy to sit forward or lean back on, without fussing with straps. The Nemo chair felt much heavier and less sturdy, even though the Nemo is rated for a heavier weight (265 lbs for Chair Zero and 300 lbs for the Moonlite). I am a fairly tall and over 200 lbs, so I expected to feel more secure in the Moonlite, but the Chair Zero felt much stronger and more ... MoreI bought this chair to take on a multi-night backpacking trip. I shipped the Moonlite back to Moosejaw (excellent customer service, btw!) and bought a second Chair Zero for my son. It's hard to explain, but the Chair Zero also seems to go together much quicker and with less fiddling and the Moonlite. So lighter weight, more secure, better comfort, and quicker set up and pack away made the Helinox Chair Zero a clear winner!

Makes backcountry camping luxurious for those of us with bad knees
19 September 2022

This chair is wildly expensive, but it was worth every penny for me on a recent Algonquin backcountry hiking trip. My knees always get sore on these trips, and having this chair in camp was great for doing things like setting up a fire, organizing my pack, etc. without having to squat and put more pressure on the knees. As a bonus, I had a dry place to sit after it rained! Also just felt kind of fancy to have a comfy chair like this in camp. It's light enough that it doesn't really add any significant weight to a pack, and since it can be easily strapped to the outside, also doesn't add bulk. It's easy to set up and easy to pack away. It'll be great for outdoor movies, picnics, and the like.

My new essential!
18 May 2023

I am an avid backpacker who try to go as lightweight as I can (afford), and I used to think having a chair in camp was such an unnecessary luxury. Until I tried the Chair Zero. Yes, sitting on sit pad or rock or log is fine, but this chair takes camp comfort to a whole new level. For the weight and pack ability, I wouldn't leave it at home anymore. The only time I will not bring it will be during my fast packing trips just because I will be hiking super long days and only be in camp to sleep, so will only carry the very basic essentials. Otherwise, this chair is coming with me for every backpacking and canoeing trip!! If it helps, I'm 162cm and 52kg with small frame and this chair is super comfy for me. I definitely can see that anyone who is much bigger than I am ... MoreI am an avid backpacker who try to go as lightweight as I can (afford), and I used to think having a chair in camp was such an unnecessary luxury. Suitable for ultralight backpacking or for bikepacking - worth lugging along!
23 September 2021

After a rainy bikepacking trip where my companions opened up their folding chairs to sit on while everything at our campsite location including the bench table was soaking wet, I decided that I needed to get one myself! One criteria for bikepacking is both weight and size - as light as possible, and as compact as possible when packed up.It was a toss up between either the Helinox Zero or the Helinox Ground chair - I went with the Zero because it was slightly lighter (by about 100g) and certainly compact enough to not add too much bulk to my set up. Also, the Zero seats one slightly higher up than the Ground Chair, and for wet ground conditions, this is preferable.Pros:- possibly the lightest chair in its class- packs up very compactly- good quality ... MoreAfter a rainy bikepacking trip where my companions opened up their folding chairs to sit on while everything at our campsite location including the bench table was soaking wet, I decided that I needed to get one myself! It's easy to lug it around, and that is key.

The most comfortable ultralight I’ve tried
19 July 2022

This is a medium-backed chair, which seems unlikely for an ultralight, but it’s still only 1 and a half pounds. As a big person (6’4”, 205 lbs) this is the only ultralight I’ve tried that doesn’t dig into my back. I really like it. It packs super small and is easy to set up.A few small criticisms:- The chair tips over easily from light breeze. To be expected since the higher back makes the chair top-heavy. I could probably anchor the chair with stake if this bugged me.- The fabric is very susceptible to campfire embers. This isn’t really a car camping “hang out around a big fire” type of chair. You'll want to pull it back from the fire when stepping away.- As a tall person, I wish the seat was a little deeper. The seat edge starts to dig into my legs a bit after ... MoreThis is a medium-backed chair, which seems unlikely for an ultralight, but it’s still only 1 and a half pounds. light, comfy, great warranty!
7 October 2022

I have been using this chair since May of 2022, and it has been a game changer. Having a comfortable seat at the end of a long hiking day is fantastic. We go on several backpacking trips every year, and I take it to any event where I’ll want a chair. On our last backpacking adventure, one of the legs bent slightly, but it still worked fine. I submitted an online warranty request via the Helinox website, and within a few hours, they already shipped out a replacement leg. They also said I could send it in if I were not comfortable replacing the leg on my own. I was utterly blown away by the speed of their response and the overall level of customer service.I’d buy this chair all over again; luckily, I do not have to.
