Great size day or overnight pack. Worked great to hold a days worth of camera equipment, hammock and rain gear….zero issues against the weather so far and have dealt with light to moderate rain a few times. Proving to be highly versatile with the open main compartment, plenty of connection points for attaching phone case, GPS and other trail essentials that are easily accessible. My only negative take, hardly a dealbreaker, would be a small inner zip pocket similar to my Porter pack just to throw my keys or important items in otherwise they just get put in a zippy that eventually makes its way to bottom of bag. Again hardly noticeable but would put this pack on next level. Planning to use as my carryon pack for an upcoming trip as well since the open storage makes ... MoreGreat size day or overnight pack. Exceptionally pleased (much like my Porter 70 and stuff pack 30) and will probably pick up another pack at some point…hopefully a smaller technical bike pack is in the works!!!

Carried 18 lbs of gear plus 3 liters of water down the Bright Angel in the heat nicely. Great day pack for rafting the Canyon with a Nylaflume liner. Used the phone and water bottle attachments on the shoulder straps for very convenient access. Waist belt and chest strap helped...didn't really feel the pack at all with low weight. The small front pouch was full with a small dyneema tarp and some sunscreen. Relaced the thin shock cord with heavier guage. Super versatile small pack for small loads. G hooks are a little sluggish...might replace. Love the roll top compression design. It's a baby SW 40.

Great Day Plus Pack

Been using the Unbound 55 for day hikes and it's just too big. I tend to try to fill all the space in the pack!! I did a good bit of looking around and most "day packs" aren't good for me. I'm 6'4" and they are all mostly too small for my frame making the waist straps useless putting any weight on your shoulders. Took the chance on this one figuring I'd gift it to someone smaller if it wasn't good for me. First the good: Nice size for a day hike or overnighter. Plenty of room for what you need and then more room for what you don't need! It's water proof so far. I ran a water hose over it for 2 minutes and nothing got inside, but it's new, so may not always be the case. Well made, fit and finish is good and shipped to me fast. The "not so good"...and I say that ... MoreBeen using the Unbound 55 for day hikes and it's just too big. I tend to try to fill all the space in the pack!! I ran a water hose over it for 2 minutes and nothing got inside, but it's new, so may not always be the case. Well made, fit and finish is good and shipped to me fast. The "not so good"...and I say that because they aren't deal breakers, just not great. The size is a bit close to being too small. I know it's a small pack and limited, but at 6'4", it's on the edge. If you're any taller, plan on the waist belt being high on you. Not a huge deal if you're light and don't need the waist belt, not so good if you have some weight to distribute. Lastly, when synching things down, the lack of a frame will pull the back of the pack into a convex curve which affects fit and strap lengths. This is exacerbated when the pack is a large size and not full. I tend to leave air in it when packing it less than full to give it some structure. I also use a seat pad at the back to give it some structure and adjust tension accordingly. Not a huge deal, you just have to be mindful. Overall, great addition and recommended for anyone under 6'4" that wants to use the waist belt.

Impressed with this pack
6 December 2024

Full disclosure … I just got this Elevate 22, but I am already impressed. I have a 19” torso length and originally ordered a size medium. I loaded it up with about 20lbs of kit and just could not find the sweet spot. I returned it for a size large and found both 20lbs and 12lbs loads to carry very comfortably on my body frame. The 12lbs load felt quite light indeed! I have never owned/used a “frameless, its just a bag” style pack but I am really looking forward to using this on extended day hikes into the back country looking for pristine “blue lines” on maps to fly fish. I plan on packing water bottle/filter, food, fire starter, headlamp, insulation layer, rain jacket, fly boxes, etc…enough for a day’s adventuring.

Perfect Day Pack
26 August 2024

I’ve owned and used so many day packs from several brands over the years: Osprey, Gregory, Berghaus…etc. All pretty good but Hyperlite’s Elevate 22 is by far the best I’ve ever owned.I recently tested it on a trip to the Dolomites and it was perfect for long days with lots of water weight, short days with little to carry, and via ferrata days and the associated gear. It’s incredibly comfortable (something I didn’t expect from a frameless pack…my torso length is between 16 and 17) and makes me realize how unnecessary all the bells and whistles of other packs have been. With the stuff sacks I use, I’m more rather than less organized with this pack. I used it with the Shoulder Pocket and Vice Versa…much prefer this handy combo to the belt pockets of other brands’ day packs.I think with its daisy chains, roll top, and stealth flexibility, the Elevate could easily work for an overnight in the backcountry. As anyone reading this can probably tell, I REALLY love this pack. Bravo, thank you, Hyperlite!

Pretty perfect for x-country skiing and hiking.
26 February 2024

This is a really comfortable smaller pack for day hiking and x-skiing. All the just-in-case layers stuff in easily along with the days food and a small thermos. Things go in the bag just like they should. The real reason I got it is because I always have a camera and lens stuffed in my bag. I like having a highly water resistant pack so I don't have to put my gear in a plastic bag... in my bag. I'll definitely get the camera pod soon to make it that much easier. I do wish there was a pocket on the belt option for misc. things and on the go snacks.I also like how small this pack can roll down for a scramble or can be stuffed full with a couple rolls at the top for when you need that big down puffy.

Very good pack
18 September 2024

Love the pack and it's design. Love the Dyneema base (have yet to test it in rain/water, but have no doubts about it's capability). Love the aesthetics.Less than ideal 'breathability' for my back (I knew this would be the case, no suspension system or 'air paths' on the back pad). Back was quite sweaty, more than it is with my Osprey packs with the focused ventilation.Got a bad waist strap that had some rough seems on the inner stitching. Didn't notice till I got back to the parking lot, and it had rubbed and frayed my Black Diamond Alpenglow hoodie ($120). Reached out to Hyperlite who wouldnt offer a product credit to help offset the replacement cost. I'm salty about that, but they are at least replacing the strap. Yay.

This is probably another under 5-star review that will be filtered out, but here goes nothing...What I like about the Elevate 22: the 22L volume and the fact the large fits my longer torso makes for the ideal for me day pack; water reservoir compatible, which I prefer and the fact I can't reach bottles in the side pockets unless I remove the pack; decent size mesh front pocket and front bungee strap; volumous side pockets; comfy, minnimal hip belt; front daisy chain webbing accommodating axe/pole straps; water resistance; durable fabric. I didn't have any water ingress during river crossings, although I wouldn't try to use it as a floaty to cross; however, I didn't have to carry my bag overhead like everyone else did. I did have a poly liner, but there was no water inside the Elevate 22.What I dislike: the aluminum g-hooks are useless, fiddly, unnecessary, and fall off unless you have the Elevate 22 is packed to the brim. Given the load capacity and use of plastic buckles elsewhere there was no reason to use aluminum g-hooks for top and side compression. The side ones don't stay hooked, especially when minimally packed. The water reservoir comptabile is a positive, but the single loop inside is a negative. I've opted to use dyneema taped hooks and a reservoir pocket from a different company. HMG could have put a mesh reservoir pocket which would make it more usable, since I prefer the reservoir not flopping all around and makes for easier access to other things when the reservoir is contained in its own poket. Lack of small interior accessory pocket is baffling. HMG could have used the same dyneema mesh or anything for a small interior accessory pocket and another for a bladder reservoir pocket. I've used another companies dyneema taped stuff which works very well to provide what HMG should have. Even though I have the Large Elevate 22, a 3L reservoir if clipped into the loop will sit on the bottom of the pack when you tighten straps up, because the hip belt segment is sewn horizontally which will cause the bottom to roll up and out when you tighten down everything. The same rolling outward happens when you tighten up the top if you aren't max loading the pack. the pack has a tendency to not sit flat against your back when you tighten everything up, which is what you want when bike packing or scrambling. To alleviate the curling you need to loosen up straps, which then causes the side g-hooks to come undone and flop around. The rolltop buckle for some reason wasn't sewn into the buckle webbing hole, which means that every time I roll the top, the male buckle end annoyingly seems to twist and hide on me. Quality control issues again, as some of the sewing is coming undone after only a six day base camp day hiking trip. Last, that shoulder strap HMG logo patch is again in the way of where I need my chest strap to be. Why HMG covers up the daisy chain webbing is beyond me. Being dyneema and ther being a lack of anything allowing for breathability, it will get warm against your back and you will sweat.Pictures of the roll top buckle annoyance, inside my add-on internal pockets, the hip belt segment that curls up, and the sewing coming undone in one of the couple places on the pack.
