A nice day pack version of the more classical backpacks

I am now using this backpack since a full months almost every day.I think it carries nicely. The back is comfortable. The shape of the bag is of course more narrow and a bit elongated then a 2400.The side pockets are on the large end probably in order to allow two water bottles side-by-side a bit like the model unbound. The only problem with those pockets is that you’re always worried that if you don’t pull the strings on top things could fall off.The middle back pocket is a bit too small. But I use it to put small items that I don’t want to fall off the side pockets.Inside there is no pocket and I think there could have been some sort of wallet pocket like on the 17 L day pack. And a key loop. The belt is OK. It could be a bit larger. Indeed it is not as large ... MoreI am now using this backpack since a full months almost every day.I think it carries nicely. Apparently the belt can be changed, and the pocket belt is supposed to fit, so why don’t give the option when you buy it?There is no Velcro on the roll top.The finish is perfect as always. It’s lite and it carries well.Yet a new great hyperlite backpack.

This thing is awesome. Deceptively large. I used it as both a airline carry on and for hiking in the NH White Mountains. It worked great for everything I needed it for. I am 5'5" and initially ordered the medium based on my torso size per instruction. The hip belt was too high for my liking so I returned for a large. I ultimately use it without the hip belt but it's nice to have if needed. Ice axe loop worked great for hiking poles. Plenty of room for extra clothes, snacks, Nalgene, bug spray, etc... Very comfortable carry. 11 hours up to, across, and down the Franconia Ridge with my son and it worked like a champ. I also got the shoulder pocket and it is perfect for cell phone, sunglasses, other small items. Customer service was also great getting my new size to me ... MoreThis thing is awesome. Perfect pack.
11 July 2023

Yep, this is it, the perfect pack. The roll top and extendable side and front pockets make it pretty adjustable in size. I used it for a long day hike with plenty of room to spare. I also used it for a short day hike recently and just rolled it up more, pulled the pockets tight and it was a nice size. I would use this for a one night backpacking trip too.Waterproof, sturdy, looks great. Straps fit nicely. No complaints. Plus customer service was super kind when I asked to switch to overnight shipping since they've been busier/slower than usual - no wonder since the products are awesome.

I love this pack: materials and construction are great, it’s stripped down and you add only the accessories you need, and it’s pretty comfortable at daypack-type loads. But it’s NOT magical: if you hang a 3 liter water bladder from the provided internal loop, or pack it like like a full-framed Osrey, you will hate your life! Duh. Use that loop to clip in the dyneema bag that holds your insurance card and ID. Pack it like a frameless, and if you love water bladder drink tubes like I do, get one of those bottle adapters from Garage Grown Gear and sip from the bottles in your side/ hip pockets. Oh one more thing: I think the hip belt runs a little small and the large may feel slightly under sized for waist >=34”. I hope HL will make hip belt with padding that extends ... MoreI love this pack: materials and construction are great, it’s stripped down and you add only the accessories you need, and it’s pretty comfortable at daypack-type loads. Simple perfection
21 May 2023

I love my Elevate 22, it has to be the perfect daypack. It oozes high quality construction, excellent design, uncompromising simplicity and pure practicality. I’m 5’10” and 200 lbs and the Large size fits me perfectly well. I think of this little wonder like it’s bigger brother, my Southwest 2400, only shrunk down. I was a bit put off by the G-hooks but after using the pack extensively over the past 2 weeks in Arizona’s high desert environment I’m quite pleased and I also like the fact that the hip belt is removable. Are there cheaper alternatives out there? Yes, but you get what you pay for.

Simply Spectacular!
24 July 2023

I got this with the intention of only day-hiking with this. But I quickly learned just how much this pack can handle! I widdled down my winter kit (I live in Texas so my typical set up is for Nov-March trips) to a "summer" overnight setup with a base weight of 8.5 lbs. Huge win for me, and this pack helped me do that. I can't wait to test this out on an overnight when the temps aren't in the 100s lol. A true winner from HMG. The quality is excellent, design works well for my body, and the Med torso length was perfect for me (5'2", 155lb). I truly think ultralighters who have a super dialed kit could use this for a 2-3 day trip in the right conditions. A+!

Sizing
17 May 2023

Received my size medium Elevate 22 in the mail this week and it looks great! Can’t wait to take it out, but unfortunately I have to exchange it for a larger size first. In trying it on I found the top of the shoulder straps to be significantly below my shoulders and definitely lower on my back than my Southwest 3400 and Prism packs. The standard location for the chest strap sits just below my neck and the HMG logo on the shoulder strap sits on top of my shoulder. I measured the torso lengths on all three sized medium HMG packs from where the top of the shoulder strap is sewn into the back panel to the middle of the hip belts and found the Elevate 22 to be 1 to 2 inches shorter than the others. Take into account that the hip belts are different heights, but note you ... MoreReceived my size medium Elevate 22 in the mail this week and it looks great! Very Good; Can Be Improved
12 October 2023

Overall, I am very happy with the pack. With a few updates it could be more versatile.Pros:Well built bomber daypack.Carries well. I’ve carried up to 20 pounds while day hiking.I especially like that the side pockets are adjustable.Hydration port is convenient.Cons:Hip belt detaches but using other HMG belts is not recommended. No hip belt pockets. I attached a shoulder pocket and water bottle pocket to the shoulder straps to make up for this.No pocket for hydration reservoir. Not great for running if you attach pockets to the shoulder strap, or if you use a hydration reservoir. If I know I’ll be running for part or all of the time, I’ll be using a vest style pack.

This is probably another under 5-star review that will be filtered out, but here goes nothing...What I like about the Elevate 22: the 22L volume and the fact the large fits my longer torso makes for the ideal for me day pack; water reservoir compatible, which I prefer and the fact I can't reach bottles in the side pockets unless I remove the pack; decent size mesh front pocket and front bungee strap; volumous side pockets; comfy, minnimal hip belt; front daisy chain webbing accommodating axe/pole straps; water resistance; durable fabric. I didn't have any water ingress during river crossings, although I wouldn't try to use it as a floaty to cross; however, I didn't have to carry my bag overhead like everyone else did. I did have a poly liner, but there was no water inside the Elevate 22.What I dislike: the aluminum g-hooks are useless, fiddly, unnecessary, and fall off unless you have the Elevate 22 is packed to the brim. Given the load capacity and use of plastic buckles elsewhere there was no reason to use aluminum g-hooks for top and side compression. The side ones don't stay hooked, especially when minimally packed. The water reservoir comptabile is a positive, but the single loop inside is a negative. I've opted to use dyneema taped hooks and a reservoir pocket from a different company. HMG could have put a mesh reservoir pocket which would make it more usable, since I prefer the reservoir not flopping all around and makes for easier access to other things when the reservoir is contained in its own poket. Lack of small interior accessory pocket is baffling. HMG could have used the same dyneema mesh or anything for a small interior accessory pocket and another for a bladder reservoir pocket. I've used another companies dyneema taped stuff which works very well to provide what HMG should have. Even though I have the Large Elevate 22, a 3L reservoir if clipped into the loop will sit on the bottom of the pack when you tighten straps up, because the hip belt segment is sewn horizontally which will cause the bottom to roll up and out when you tighten down everything. The same rolling outward happens when you tighten up the top if you aren't max loading the pack. the pack has a tendency to not sit flat against your back when you tighten everything up, which is what you want when bike packing or scrambling. To alleviate the curling you need to loosen up straps, which then causes the side g-hooks to come undone and flop around. The rolltop buckle for some reason wasn't sewn into the buckle webbing hole, which means that every time I roll the top, the male buckle end annoyingly seems to twist and hide on me. Quality control issues again, as some of the sewing is coming undone after only a six day base camp day hiking trip. Last, that shoulder strap HMG logo patch is again in the way of where I need my chest strap to be. Why HMG covers up the daisy chain webbing is beyond me. Being dyneema and ther being a lack of anything allowing for breathability, it will get warm against your back and you will sweat.Pictures of the roll top buckle annoyance, inside my add-on internal pockets, the hip belt segment that curls up, and the sewing coming undone in one of the couple places on the pack.
