I used to be a huge fan of North Face baselayers, until I tried Icebreaker. North Face bottoms are warm & comfy but run a bit short - they fit just above the ankle, which was one negative. Not only are Icebreaker bottoms the perfect length, but they're softer, fit more snug/form fitting than North Face, which is a positive bc it keeps your body temp warmer (but not too hot bc they do regulate my body temp nicely) & the fabric stretches w/movement so they remain form fitting (they don't stretch out over time - like around the knees like my North Face did). I've been wearing the 260 Icebreakers walking my dog throughout winter, snowshoeing, skiing & just playing in the snow & they keep me toasty when temps get into the 20s, teens & single digits. Best baselayer I've tried. Note: I'm 5'9" - 5'10" & weigh 165 w/a fit-slender build & size M is perfect.

The thermal leggings are fantastic. I went on a family holiday to Lapland at Christmas time 2023 and the temperatures were on average -12. My legs were always nice and warm and more importantly I was always comfortable. The Ice Breaker leggings are worth spending the money on. They are top quality and worth every penny.

I purchased the Icebreaker Men's 260 Tech Base Layer Leggings for my husband. I also purchased the Base Layer Top. He like both the top and leggings very much. It is difficult to find a good fit for him anywhere. He is tall with an athletic build. Unfortunately, I had to return both pieces. We will keep trying.

Bought my first pair in 2014 and they held up for years even though they were out through the wringer. Keep buying them and still the same great quality as before.I love the fit of these, tried smart wool, rei and others but the fit was never just right. These always fit perfect! I love the feeling both in active multi-day mountaineering climbs and also just chilling around camp relaxing staying warm and comfy.Back to the active part… the benefits of merino are magnificent and now only wear it for my under-layers in outings. The lack of smell is always great when sharing tents with others who have been on a trek for a few days is always magnificent. The capacity to keep you warm even on those sweaty push to the top days has me forever grateful. Did I mention the ... These super thick base layer pants work for me in the negative temps. Anything above 0' and I usually choose a lighter weight base layer. The heavy weight is different than other lighter base layers. The lighter ones feel like a good base layer, these heavier ones make me feel like I have a layer of blubber around me, like a Arctic seal or something. It just feels different (better) than lighter weights base layers, including the ones made by icebreaker. Something about the thickness just makes it feel softer, warmer, better.
I cannot yet speak to the long term durability or how they hold up against hard use. The fit and finish is good and the material is lightweight breathable and unrestrictive. Comparing these to the synthetic cheap pairs I've used from big box stores they are night and day different. I've been working on a highway project and it's November in the Midwest, temps at start of day range from 15-30*F but can increase by sometimes 20-30* by the end of day and this base layer preforms perfectly adapting to the climate and doesn't overheat my bottom half or become gross from sweat. I'll be buying multiple pairs so I can always have them with me.
Bought these for use in the gym (strength training). Fit and comfort are perfect but I'm nervous they won't last. After just two days of wear, they appear to be thinning in one of the quads. I'm not particularly muscular and bought a generous size up. We'll have to see and I'll try to update in a couple months. For the price, I expect a garment that gives me at least a year of consistent wear.
I bought some Icebreaker base layers for my first season as a wrangler of a hunting outfit in the Yukon Territory. There was one night where we moved camp below a mountain that we believed held at least one legal stone sheep ram that we had glassed up that morning. Our horses took off less than an hour after turning them loose, and I was the one who had to chase them and get them back before they left us for good. I ran down the trail late in the evening in nothing but the Icebreaker merino base layer top and bottoms and an uninsulated pair of pants, hoping to catch them quickly before they got too far. I ended up chasing them across a knee deep river, and through countless rain-drenched buckbrush branches slapping my face. At that altitude,as well as with the sun ... I ended up chasing them across a knee deep river, and through countless rain-drenched buckbrush branches slapping my face. At that altitude,as well as with the sun setting, by the time I caught them it was very cold and I was drenched in water and sweat. I wanted to ride the horses back to camp out of exhaustion but I had to keep walking because movement was almost the only thing keeping me warm. When I finally reached camp shivering uncontrollably, the guys had a blazing fire ready for my return and some hot food. When I was out there chasing those horses, I was wearing WAY less clothes than I should have for the conditions. The only thing that I was even wearing that held any heat at all were my Icebreakers. I believe without the merino wool that was able to still hold heat despite being 100% thoroughly drenched, I might've ended up crawling into camp with pneumonia. They were all I had in the absolute coldest few hours of my life, and they're all I'm going to rely on now to keep me warm in the toughest conditions.
Annually I participate in the polar bear swim with my family. Living on an island, this yearly activity is a good reminder to not panic if you end up in the water as a result of outdoors pursuits. This time I brought along my new set of Icebreaker Merino 260 tech thermal leggings, Merino 260 tech long sleeve crew thermal top and my Real fleece Merino elemental Beanie.Once out of the water and exposed to the light breeze and drizzle I was shivering uncontrollably. As soon as I had removed my wet clothes, dried myself quickly and don my new set of Merino base layers and rain gear. The shivering was under control and my fine motor skills were back to a functional level. Granted I did not have to thread a needle but I certainly could start a fire. The most noticeable ... As a practical gift for himself my boyfriend purchased the Icebreaker 260 Tech Long Sleeve Merino Thermal Leggings (with fly) and Long sleeved Half Zip up top, both for work and to keep him warm this Winter.Little did he know that they would be keeping more than just his fine derrier toasty this year and that he WOULD be wearing them a lot more than initally planned. After parading his new purchaes to me in a rather enthusiastic and musical debut around the living room, I also found myself (surprisingly) somewhat hot and bothered...I was particularly impressed with the "Tech" that must have gone into such a fine product. The way the Merino material snuggly hugged and protected him, keeping everything in place as he swayed side to side.
