I used to be a huge fan of North Face baselayers, until I tried Icebreaker. North Face bottoms are warm & comfy but run a bit short - they fit just above the ankle, which was one negative. Not only are Icebreaker bottoms the perfect length, but they're softer, fit more snug/form fitting than North Face, which is a positive bc it keeps your body temp warmer (but not too hot bc they do regulate my body temp nicely) & the fabric stretches w/movement so they remain form fitting (they don't stretch out over time - like around the knees like my North Face did). I've been wearing the 260 Icebreakers walking my dog throughout winter, snowshoeing, skiing & just playing in the snow & they keep me toasty when temps get into the 20s, teens & single digits. Best baselayer I've tried. Note: I'm 5'9" - 5'10" & weigh 165 w/a fit-slender build & size M is perfect.

These super thick base layer pants work for me in the negative temps. Anything above 0' and I usually choose a lighter weight base layer. The heavy weight is different than other lighter base layers. The lighter ones feel like a good base layer, these heavier ones make me feel like I have a layer of blubber around me, like a Arctic seal or something. It just feels different (better) than lighter weights base layers, including the ones made by icebreaker. Something about the thickness just makes it feel softer, warmer, better.

Always used thermals (synthetics) for skiing but these were initially recommended by my son for skiing in Canada at temps down to -20C. Ideal but in addition they felt must softer and more comfortable than synthetics plus didn't cause any skin irritation (has been a major problem for me in the past).Always want thermals 'with fly' as too difficult to use those without at lower temperatures or when using outer ski clothing.Highly recommended.PS: Pity some of your newer styles are not offered 'with fly'.

I cannot yet speak to the long term durability or how they hold up against hard use. The fit and finish is good and the material is lightweight breathable and unrestrictive. Comparing these to the synthetic cheap pairs I've used from big box stores they are night and day different. I've been working on a highway project and it's November in the Midwest, temps at start of day range from 15-30*F but can increase by sometimes 20-30* by the end of day and this base layer preforms perfectly adapting to the climate and doesn't overheat my bottom half or become gross from sweat. I'll be buying multiple pairs so I can always have them with me.
Merino 260 Tech Thermal Leggings - When I received these leggings, they were very comfortable to wear and insulated well. The feel of merino is super nice. I was surprised at how thin they were though. Big mistake to keep them. Fast forward 11 months, they have developed holes around the thigh area and it sickens me that i paid this much money for this. Please look at forums before buying this thin pants. I took the best care of it, keeping in airtight storage but yes, thin merino wool disintegrates faster. Not a happy first time customer of icebreaker, sorry
for the price of these i would hope that I would be impressed, but impressed is an extreme understatement. Icebreaker might have installed nanobots into their fabric because this stuff is advanced technology. I have quite a few different brands of merino wool clothing and icebreaker TRULY makes me understand "temperature regulating" other brands have caused me to over heat, these keep me perfect temp no matter how hard im working but the biggest thing for me is that they actually hold their shape. Other brands either aren't that stretchy or they get super loose after a few days of wearing. Ive had these on for 3 weeks now, yoga twice a day 6 days a week and every time I put them on its like they were just washed. I have absolutely 0 dislikes about this product. ... Annually I participate in the polar bear swim with my family. Living on an island, this yearly activity is a good reminder to not panic if you end up in the water as a result of outdoors pursuits. This time I brought along my new set of Icebreaker Merino 260 tech thermal leggings, Merino 260 tech long sleeve crew thermal top and my Real fleece Merino elemental Beanie.Once out of the water and exposed to the light breeze and drizzle I was shivering uncontrollably. As soon as I had removed my wet clothes, dried myself quickly and don my new set of Merino base layers and rain gear. The shivering was under control and my fine motor skills were back to a functional level. Granted I did not have to thread a needle but I certainly could start a fire. The most noticeable ... As a practical gift for himself my boyfriend purchased the Icebreaker 260 Tech Long Sleeve Merino Thermal Leggings (with fly) and Long sleeved Half Zip up top, both for work and to keep him warm this Winter.Little did he know that they would be keeping more than just his fine derrier toasty this year and that he WOULD be wearing them a lot more than initally planned. After parading his new purchaes to me in a rather enthusiastic and musical debut around the living room, I also found myself (surprisingly) somewhat hot and bothered...I was particularly impressed with the "Tech" that must have gone into such a fine product. The way the Merino material snuggly hugged and protected him, keeping everything in place as he swayed side to side. How the light reflected off of the cool grey fibres accentuating his heart-stopping muscular curves..Need I say more?Yes one more thing...That built-in, easy-access fly on the leggings is literally a *stroke* of genius. Good ventilation is essential of course after all that dancing...Ladies. Don't let your man go cold this winter. Keep him and yourself warm with these super *cough* hard-wearing, highly fashionable Merino 260 Tech Thermal Leggings (with fly) and Long Sleeve (Half Zip) Thermal Top. You won't be disappointed.*Disclaimer:* Dancing required for full effect. May cause uncontrollable urges. Entertainment guaranteed
These thermals keep me warm and regulated in -15 C temperatures all the way up to room temp. When I do sweat while hiking, the merino wicks the moisture off my skin and provides a gentle cooling effect that fades back to warmth when you need it. The material itself is durable, well made and easy to wash. If I could, my entire closet would be icebreaker merino. Tested in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
The leggings fit well in calves, and they are soft. At this time they are being used as pajamas. It isn't cold enough yet to wear these for running or biking. I try to keep my heating bill down, and this is helping make that possible. The fit isn't quite what I wanted. The rise on these leggings is higher than I was expecting. I didn't know what inseam was going to be because Icebreaker doesn't list them in the garment info which is rather irritating. FYI the inseam (measured from end to crotch seam) is 30 inches which covers my ankles. The inseam was maybe a tad longer than I wanted. I wanted a slightly smoother/tighter fit in the posterior, crotch, and calves than these provide unless you lift the waistband to sky.
