I got this jacket to wear as a mid layer for skiing. I wanted something thinner than a puffy but still warm. Pretty well what I was looking for. Not as warm as a puffy but close. Very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately I decide to size up, that was a mistake because it's big. I look like I have Mr Rogers sweater on.. That's no fault of the jacket.. It is made very long in the arms and body regardless. So stick with the sizing chart.. It's at a great mid layer and I'm glad I bought it..

I have a million fleeces and badelayers, but I bought this specifically in preparation for an expedition cruise to Antarctica. Icebreaker is a great brand and merino wool is the best for both performance and odor control, which will be important when I’m on a boat for 10 days with regular cold-weather excursions and probably not much chance to do laundry. The Descender zip is relatively thin as far as midlayers go, but the groove patterns in the material mean it does an excellent job wicking sweat, while also providing some insulation. To test it out, I’ve gone running with the Descender over a thin synthetic baselayer with a light wind shell over the top, and it performed beautifully. I even used it two days in a row like that without washing it, and there was no ... MoreI have a million fleeces and badelayers, but I bought this specifically in preparation for an expedition cruise to Antarctica. I even used it two days in a row like that without washing it, and there was no odor. That’s where merino wool really does its job vs. synthetic materials. And I could wear this next-to-skin, of course, too. It is snug enough, it wicks sweat, and it’s not itchy at all.I’m 6-3 and 200 lbs with an athletic build, and I have this in both a L and XL. Both feel fine, though the XL is probably a tad more comfortable. I usually wear a L in most things but Icebreaker’s website actually recommended an XL for me in this, and they were probably correct. But I figure I’ll keep both and use the L more as a baselayer and maybe the XL (not at the same time) as a midlayer—whether it’s in Antarctica, skiing, or whatever. The great thing is that these are high-quality garments that’ll last for years and years and never develop a gross odor, so they’re worth the investment. And like I said, I think the world of Icebreaker the brand, both for their quality and their service. Just fantastic. Finally, it’s handy that it has a few pockets, especially if you’re going for a run and need to bring your phone, a house/car key or whatever. Because it’s a fairly thin garment, you’re probably not going to want to jam too much stuff in there, and the breast pocket is pretty small. But still nice to have.Overall, great product, and I’m excited to put it to the test in some extreme cold weather as a lower level layer!

I am have many icebreaker base layers, but this in my first mid-layer, bought as a Christmas gift. I love the feel of the fleece: very soft, but also robust. The fit is spot on for me: 178cm and 70kg. So far I've used it around the house and while out and about - it hasn't been used for serious hiking yet. But the temperature control is very good - when moving in and out of heated environments (when shopping, for example) I'm never too hot or too cold. Really happy with this fleece - I'll be buying one or two more.

Some years ago I purchased a garment from you with what looks like an identical design only in navy. It has thick strong wool fabric, looks good and I am still wearing it regularly. The material in the new version is much thinner and stretchy to the point of just hanging off me. It looks and feels like a cheap knockoff. I have returned the item and been refunded - thank you.I will not buy from Icebreaker again. I like to buy good quality stuff and look after it. Icebreaker needs to review its marketing policy.
Love this jacket! The color, material, warmth, breathability, and fit are great. Couldn't recommend more. There are only two annoying details I wish Icebreaker would improve on. First, there is no hanging loop. This is incredibly annoying, every jacket should have this. Second, I wish this had a dual zipper like the similar quantum III hoodie has. Having two zippers is a lot more flexible when doing anything active.
This is my go-to winter jacket. It fits well, wears well, looks great and keeps me warm. I'm on to my third iteration and i have noticed that the current version is slightly snugger than the previous one (which I wore for three years) but still comfortable. The perfect accompaniment to the Tech Lite Tee Shirts.
I have owned many different pieces from Icebreaker over the past decade, and although I have loved every one of them, this is the first time I felt I needed to write a review. I have never owned a top that was this fashionable while also being extremely technical. They really got down to the details on this one. The entire cut contours to your body and I especially love how ergonomic it is in the neck/chin area. The hood looks so good when on and it seems like the material stays where you would want it to instead of flopping around loosely. The cuffs are very well designed and will sit anywhere on your arm without pinching off your circulation. Literally everything about it is impressive. The one gripe I have is that the sleeves are a little long but they somehow ... MoreI have owned many different pieces from Icebreaker over the past decade, and although I have loved every one of them, this is the first time I felt I needed to write a review. I have been wearing various Icebreaker merino products for years and swear by them, but this was my first Icebreaker Descender jacket. I love it! It is the perfect all-mountain mid-layer. For back-country skiing it layered perfectly over my Icebreaker 260 baselayer leaving enough room to comfortably fit an extra down insulating layer under my shell when needed. The thumb loops were very comfortable and the arm length was generous. I can't wait to take it hiking this summer.
I am the man with a thousand hoodies and this is my favorite one! I wear this nearly every day. I'm a huge fan of the Realfleece. I have a few other Realfleece layers, two of which I use for hunting. The exterior of the Realfleece is durable and doesn't snag or pill. I have another Icebreaker hoodie that is not Realfleece and I have to take special care to keep it in good shape. No worries about that with the Descender.I am 5'9" 165lbs with an athletic build and the Large fit is spot on. My girlfriend likes the way it looks on me and I have received other compliments on it. The sleeve length fits perfectly and does not feel awkward when using the thumbholes. The torso length is just right. Amazing jacket. quickly jumped to one of the top of the list for my go to layers. Only tried it down to high 30s-low 40s F so far as it's already started warming up this winter after I got it as a present, and it's done great keeping me warm to those temps. Also comfortable wearing it in the 60s F. super comfy, packs tiny, durable, great thermoregulation. It's slim athletic fit is great and I've found it to be better fitting than my Arctery'x, Patagonia, Smartwool, and other favorite layers I've had over the years. The serene blue is a beautiful shade with black accent trim. The fit and color makes it appropriate for a wide variety of activities from exploring town, nice dinners, hiking, running, or other adventuring activities which is great because I wanted it to ... MoreAmazing jacket. quickly jumped to one of the top of the list for my go to layers. Thumbholes are a plus. I do feel that a hanging loop would be a nice addition. Also, arguably one of the more important factors, my wife loves how it looks on me. Would definitely recommend
