A great action camera with one drawback.

It does work underwater without a case, as I've tested. The only drawback is that the image quality isn't nearly as good as a one-camera action camera. The stabilization is insane though. It can be spun in all directions with the Invisible Selfie Stick (really cool) and the horizon stays level, but you can occasionally see the stitch lines. In my experience, to get the best quality you need it at 5.7K (trust me, the quality is better than frame rate under most scenarios, unless you are doing motorcycling, etc) and make sure at night that the shutter speed doesn't dip below 1/80. I bought this as sought of a toy - something to play with but not necessarily use professionally. And I've had a lot of fun with it. But I think there is a place for it on a professional level if used with other cameras, for specific types of shots within a larger playing field. I like the ability to shoot what looks like drone footage without the worry of actually having to fly a drone. And it's very interesting to be able to re-frame your shots, and manipulate footage in an entirely new way using either Insta's excellent software or in FCPX. If one keeps the Sharpening settings on low, and use the HDR setting, the image quality actually improves, at least to my eye. And it's also a very competent action camera. It's definitely expanded my visual language and has given me literally a new perspective on shooting. I love it.

Responding to the other 1 star review...it's not fair to rate a device 1 star if you haven't even used it yet. Anyways...as a runner, trail runner, and hiker I've used the X3 on a number of excursions and I've had a blast using it every single time. I'm a huge fan of MeMode for getting those quick shots for social media stories. Also love how I can shoot first and frame later. The ability to use key frames allows you to edit your clips with infinite creativity. The camera is bulkier than it looks but you get used to the size and weight. Can't wait to use this camera on more of my future trips and excursions.

The Insta360 and it's corresponding App make it so easy to capture incredible footage, and make super cool videos. It's beginner friendly, and provides very high quality videos. I also find doing the post processing really fun; I'm just always in awe by what the camera is able to capture and by how far AI editing technology has come (The 360 image stitching and object tracking is incredible).I use it primarily for skiing action shots and so far I have a huge backlog of videos to go through; my only issue is not being able to decide what to leave out. Some things to note:- Long range video capture is not it's strong suit, but the quality is very good for close up capture.- The camera is pretty robust and I haven't damaged it yet (luckily I've only dropped it ... MoreThe Insta360 and it's corresponding App make it so easy to capture incredible footage, and make super cool videos. My friend hit a tree with it and it was fine, but the lens got scratched when he dropped it on pavement.- NGL, when I record myself skiing with it, it honestly makes me look a lot faster and more impressive than I am.

Excellent Camera
8 June 2023

There are plenty of reviews online if you want details. I originally started with the GoPro Fusion I bought on a closeout sale just to try a 360 camera. It was a challenging experience to say the least. Not just the camera but finding workable software to get a finished video. I've waited years and watched closely the companies developing newer and better technology. Finally the Insta360 X3 shows up and now the full package is here. I am just getting started on the many features this camera has and all the many 360 techniques you can use. The camera is well built and the touch screen is so easy to see and use. Battery time is very good but I would recommend buying a spare battery. You can continue to look if you want but my searching is finally over.

This is a great 360 camera. I purchased directly from Insta360 but should've purchased from B&H. I bought my accessories through B&H and the quick shipping was amazing. The camera itself is very fun to use, just hit record and move the camera where you want and reframe the footage later. It's a really awesome concept that Insta360 has really nailed. Being able to utilize single lens mode for normal 4k video is also a huge plus, you can bring this camera for everything and you will have tons of fun shots to play around with later and put together. This does require some post production work on the computer or more likely the app for reframing/exporting. Just okay

Despite an initial issue with updating the firmware (which required a few reboots of the camera and firmware update attempts, it was rather finnicky), it is a rather fun camera to use.The best part is being able to reframe your action, which a 360 cam allows. Two major draw backs in my opinion:1. You cannot select how long the recording will chunk the file size on the storage card, so some files are 10+ GB in size. It'd be much better if it at least defaulted to 2-4GB file sizes.2. If the battery dies, and this is a big issue, the file it is currently recording is corrupted. There is no software to fix this, and some mention sending in the files to Insta support, but I feel like that is a ridiculous way to fix a common issue. There is no software to fix this, and some mention sending in the files to Insta support, but I feel like that is a ridiculous way to fix a common issue. I've never owned a camera that had this problem, so it's a big surprising actually.Beyond those two issues, it is fun to use except I noticed the invisible selfie stick only works if the camera on the stick is exactly straight (ie: the camera cannot be angled in anyway), as well I found I cannot adjust the height of the stick after recording starts, as it reveals the stick then. The quality in 360 mode, despite being 5.7k is actually not great (feels like it is less than 1080p). It's not very crisp in my opinion and at times I see motion artifacts, I suspect it's due to the codec used in the recording format. The body seems well built, though a touch heavy. I do worry about the LCD screen getting cracked, but it's really nice having it so large and touch screen. The software leaves something to be desired:1. You cannot do multiple cuts, or at least I don't see a way to so I export this out and edit in Davinci.2. The keyframing is difficult to get right, and I mostly blame the UI for that.3. I have noticed occasionally the video will snap from one location to another if there are too many keyframes within a certain amount of time.4. The deep track isn't exactly accurate, and doesn't last long enough-- at least not in my use cases.Overall an OK camera.

My first foray into 360. This thing is perfect
3 October 2022

I've been a professional videographer for 25 years now and this is the first 360 camera I've tried. It's mind blowing to see what the options are open to me now with a 360 view to choose from. I no longer have to think so much about framing or camera movement because all of that is now done (chosen) in post. Amazing. I'm glad I waited til this camera came out because I didn't have to go through years of iterations an upgrades to get to the point of the perfect camera for me. This thing is incredible. 360 is a whole new world and there is very little learning curve with this camera. I have to say I was quite surprised when I opened the box and felt the camera in my hand, Its so strong and made of very high quality materials. You can just feel it immediately. Simple and powerful

This little camera has the capability of shooting 4K+ log video, you can match your footage later, not to mention HDR mode with beautiful clarity. This 1/2in CMOS sensor works well in low light not perfect like the Sony fX3 or A7S III, but good enough and usable. The images are ultra sharp in daylight. It goes without saying, but must be sad. The stabilization is breathtakingly good. This can be used as a teaching tool, a blogging A-B camera, video demonstrations, or just having fun with the friends. the reason I bought the X3 is because I have a e-scooter and I love shooting video while I'm riding. You're able to tell your story in a whole new way with no limitations.

Exceeding my expectations! The mounting options are so various, the shots you can produce are incredible. I've probably sold quite a few of these units to so many people who had to know how these shots were done! Also got the extended selfie stick, unicorn stick, gps remote and the bullet time cord, and a couple other key mounts just to expand the possibilities. Yeah, I went all-in with this camera. You'll need to discipline yourself in the editing process, as you can spend a LOT of time repositioning the shots in post... the options are practically endless.
