Enormous and Heavy but smaller than the oven
19 January 2024

I wanted the integrated lid instead of having to manage two different kids like the other Instant Pot air fryer and pressure cooker. Because I ordered this online, I didn’t realize how huge and heavy it would be. Online videos just don’t do it justice. I still don’t know where to put it away because I don’t have any cabinets big enough. So far I have been more successful with the Roast setting than the Air Fry setting and I’m less than thrilled that there aren’t accessory sets for this model like there are for the other Instant Pot models. I’m sure I will find something if I dig into detailed dimensions of all the accessories I might consider, but it’s so much harder than it needs to be. I do appreciate that I can cook like an oven without turning on the big oven, but if I have to make a second batch because the air fryer setting wants space between all the food pieces during cooking, and the first batch isn’t going to be fresh when I finish the second, I really just need to use the convection feature on the oven. Or use a regular convection toaster oven.

Good but not as good as it should be

This is the second multi cooker I have owned, the first one was just a slow cooker and pressure cooker with a few other options such as sautéing and steaming, in theory at least but I was unhappy with the limited time you could pressure cook for so when a friend recommended her InstantPot I got interested. I went for this one because I liked that it is also an air fryer but the clincher was that it also has a sous vide feature. Up until then I was using my steam oven to sous vide but this leaves me with a very wet oven that needs to be dried and mostly the item I am cooking is small so it seems a waste. This InstantPot is perfect for cooking sous vide but you do need a vacuum sealer. The pressure cooker and slow cooker are excellent too, no 90 minute maximum time ... MoreThis is the second multi cooker I have owned, the first one was just a slow cooker and pressure cooker with a few other options such as sautéing and steaming, in theory at least but I was unhappy with the limited time you could pressure cook for so when a friend recommended her InstantPot I got interested. Up until then I was using my steam oven to sous vide but this leaves me with a very wet oven that needs to be dried and mostly the item I am cooking is small so it seems a waste. This InstantPot is perfect for cooking sous vide but you do need a vacuum sealer. The pressure cooker and slow cooker are excellent too, no 90 minute maximum time limit on the pressure cooker which is great if you like to make your own Christmas puddings. The steam feature is basically pressure cooking again which was the same on the previous machine I had. To me, there should be no extra pressure when steaming which is why it is recommended as a very gentle way of cooking delicate foods but as soon as you add steam you are pressure cooking all be it on low. This machine also makes yogurt which was something I used to make in a saucepan with a thermometer. Making it in this multipoint takes a little longer but I can make double the amount in one go. It takes longer because when I make it I cool the pasteurised milk down in an ice bath until it reaches the correct temperature to add the culture but with this pot you have to leave it with the lid open for up to 90 minutes to cool down and in the meantime it allows a skin to form on the milk. If you try and speed the process up by removing the pot and placing it in an ice bath, a) the InstantPot keeps beeping at you to replace the pot and b) it does not good because even if you cool it down to just above the correct temperature it still lets it sit there for 90 minutes before prompting you to add the culture.Air frying works really well and I used this feature a lot. No more feeling guilty for heating up the oven to max just because I fancy some oven chips with my dinner. It's good not just for chips either, cooking chicken breasts this way works wonderfully too as do many other things. I use this much more than I was expecting.Bake & Roast. This feature, and I refer to it as one feature as despite there being dedicated buttons for both I can't fathom any difference between them, is the feature I have had the most issues with and indeed led to InstantPot replacing my machine. The first thing I tried was a cake recipe that was from their web site and supposed to be suitable for this model. After the allotted time it came out burnt on top and totally uncooked underneath using the bake setting. I tried some fish in the air fryer basket with the roast setting. they were just salmon steaks so should have cooked quite easily but again, after the allotted time they were burnt on top and raw underneath. Several times I tried with different arrangements of containers but it was always the same. Nothing was cooking properly underneath. Eventually InstantPot replaced my machine and to be fair I have only had the replacement a week but today I tried the same cake recipe again and although the result was better the cake was still partially uncooked underneath and near to black on top.I have not used the grill, dehydrate or proofing features. The user manual is rubbish. First you have to download it, there is no paper version and second it isn't detailed enough. It just tells you what to do but doesn't give any idea of what is actually happening to explain the difference between the options which would be helpful if you wanted to work out what would be the best setting for something you normally cook by other means. On the whole I like my InstantPot for the things it does well. It's certainly more economical and easier to clean than my oven. It would be fantastic if I could get it to bake as it ought to but maybe I'm expecting too much however, there are a couple of things that would make it even more useful. If you could have a delayed timer on the bake or roast setting you could set it to cook jacket potatoes so they are ready when you get home from work. Unfortunately the delayed start only works for the slow, pressure and steam cooking options which, let's face it, you are not going to need it for. Another useful feature would be to have a temperature probe option which would measure the internal temperature of the food and stop the cooking automatically when the set temperature has been reached. Perhaps these features will appear in a later model.

Great Design, but Poor Support
26 March 2024

I bought this 4 months ago. It is a really nice appliance as long as it is working.Recently though it started showing an error that steam was leaking during pressure cooking. The online troubleshooting guide said to remove the sealing ring and clean it. Unfortunatelyfor this design the ring is not replaceable, and so it ripped. The pressure lid itself is not available of individual purchase, and is out of stock anyway. As a result it looks like I have a $200 dead weight on my counter.Make sure if you're going to buy one of these that there are parts available on the website for it.

Great purchase
1 February 2024

I bought this for my son as a housewarming gift and I loved everything about it.Mine just arrived, so I haven't used it yet, but the company really stands behind their product so I am confident in my purchase.I have not used the airfryer feature, but I'm excited to try it.The unit is such high quality. I love the instant pot! My son put my previous one together wrong and blew it after many years. I was not sad because I had already decided I would replace it with this one.I'll write more in the future after I get cooking in this one. I love that you can go from dry beans to soup in 35 minutes. Incredible! Buy with confidence.

Only 2 months old... have I made a grave error?!?!
18 February 2024

Absolutely NO accessories available for the 6.5 qt. IP Customer Support emailed me, apologized about lack of accessories and then stated that a steamer was now available, and provided me the link. I pulled it up... steamer for 6 and 8 qt. Will I have to buy 6 qt accessories of another brand?? A company makes money off of its consumables/accessories, marketing 101.Also, the inner pressure ring being permanent. It is bound to fail... then what, as there is no replacement. Plus, the plastic piece which attaches the pressure lid to the Ultimate Lid...complaints that it breaks off?? And not replaceable? I am getting very uneasy about this model.

If you get this product, don't get rid of your croc pot!

[Rewarded Review] Instant Pot Duo Crisp with Ultimate (hinged) Lid!
3 May 2024

This IP does it all from sauté' to bake to broil. It has a hinged lid. The biggest problem for me. If you have an island, go for for it. I do not. I have a small kitchen and have to pull the machine from under the counter to use it. For that reason alone, I wish I would have purchased an IP with a lid that comes off and on. Another factor to consider with The IP Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid is you cannot change the seal. Other IP's you can change the silicon seal and use one for savory dishes and one for sweet dishes. The seal tends to absorb orders. Otherwise, I love using the Instant Pot for cooking--I love the IP recipe app too--step by step instructions!
