Irobot Roomba I7+ Robot Vacuum With Automatic Dirt Disposal - Black

I've had my eyes on purchasing a Roomba for years. I tried out a lesser model from iRobot last year, and although it performed well it did not have room mapping. I did not realize at the time how much of a dealbreaker that is for me personally. Considering I have a large main floor with 5 separate rooms and 3 dogs and a cat that always leave behind a trail of ripped up treats and toys I need to be able to clean only certain rooms, or parts of a room, that need it; especially considering an "everywhere" cleaning in my house takes 2hr 45 min. This model does this very well and keeps to the boundaries you yourself can designate; even within the same room. Along with this feature, I also take advantage of the "keep out" area you can designate; especially where I keep dog toys and flimsy throw rugs that I do not want to have to pick up every time. In terms of noise levels, it is generally pretty quiet and only makes the noise of a full-sized vacuum during the emptying out of the on-board trash bin. It seems to get smarter each time it goes on its vacuum missions, as it bumps into things less and takes very direct routes rather than just randomly wandering around. I am very satisfied with my purchase, even more so with getting it on sale right before the holidays.

2nd one in 6 years

I bought a 600 series from here in 2017, it never did carpet/rugs well. It also would never connect to wifi or the app from a droid or an iphone. I thought about upgrading and giving it to my mom, but I wasn't going to pay a grand for the new ones. The main reason I wanted to get rid of it is because it started randomly going off. Now remember it was never on wifi or the app and had no schedule, I had to press the button. Online searches said to removed the battery and I did. Cleaned terminals and replaced the ball and rollers. I moved it to another outlet and it still did it. I had to unplug it because it went from going off in the middle of the night to the daytime next to my puppies cage while I'm gone. This new base is much taller than deeper than I expected, bigger than on tv. 19 inches tall and a foot deep. I live in a 940 sq ft house without many outlets, especially in the kitchen so I might have to move it to a bedroom because it takes up too much room. Connected to wifi fine, app was fine and shows its name, birthday, charging status, schedule. I ran it this morning through alexa and it ran about 40 minutes and took itself back to the base. It would not go on the bedroom carpet at all until it did most of the house and I was getting out of the shower. I love how they seem to chase you and get in the way especially in the bathroom and doing laundry. It was louder/deeper than the old one and when it docked it sounded like a plane landing. The older dog who isn't scared of them and chased the first one avoided his bedroom while it was in there and ran from the living room to the bedroom after sniffing and pointing to it. I wanted to see how much it cleaned but it emptied itself and I had to go to work.

Game changer!

Took a bit of a punt by buying a vacuum for my wife for Christmas, but what an absolute game changer this thing is! I suffer quite badly with cat allergies and we have a cat (I didn't know about allergies before we got him!) which sheds quite a bit as well as a dog who sheds a little. We used to run the vacuum round at least twice a week, but we've set Bob up to do a full run of the downstairs each morning before we get up for work and I've not sneezed for days! It's so quiet that it can vacuum the whole downstairs without either of us knowing about it and Bob is back on his charger and full within an hour of finishing, ready to clean up any breakfast mess. Even so, it takes 10 seconds to empty and we have glitteringly clean floors all the time.Could not recommend this highly enough. Had it not been on sale I probably would have thought twice, but should it ever give up, I would be back on the website to get another one without a seconds hesitation.

Great assistant

Great vacuuming assistant - 4.5 stars in our opinion. Have had it now 4 months. Background: mostly one level house with laminate and tile floors, couple of throw rugs. Dining room has table with 6 chairs. Kitchen counter has 3 pedestal stools. When we down sized to this house kept minimal furniture. One border Collie. For the pedestal stools in kitchen, we pull them out so the robot can make a pass without trouble under the counter. The robot will climb the smooth base to clean them. For us with the dog, a bag fills in about a month.The robot can't get onto the fireplace hearth or go over the triple sliding glass door track that leads to the sunroom. Nor will it do behind open doors that are flush to walls. So you still need a broom or handheld wand.Buy on sale!

Greatest purchase of my life

After a short issue connecting to our wifi (my fault, not victors), we got this little guy (possibly girl) up and rolling. With in a day, victor new our new floor plan faster than I could mow the front lawn (its really small #colorado). Speaking of colorado, victor has no issue with high altitude contrary to unpopular belief. All in all, victor has saved us from the pain of vacuuming. I set victor up to run in the morning and evening and he (could be a she) is looking skinnier than even. I find my self watching victor vacuum like my old neighbor used to watch me vacuum. Except he was outside looking in. Highly recommend the purchase. You wont regret it.

Meh for hard floors, awful for area rugs

I have had the Roomba i7+ for about 2 years now. I desperately wanted to love this - to the point of disillusion. But, overall, I am disappointed and feel like I wasted $700. It will pick up dog hair and most debris off of our faux-wood laminate floors. If your house is primarily laminate, this will probably be an acceptable option. On tile (ours is pretty slick porcelain), it leaves quite a bit of debris behind, but sufficiently gets up the dog hair. On area rugs, it only picks up about a third of the dog hair and debris that my traditional vacuum gets. Also, it leaves behind numerous sporadic globs of dog hair that I have to go around picking up. We have a small house. I only use the Roomba for the master and main living areas (roughly 1000 sq ft). I like that it gets to places like under the king size bed and other furniture much easier than a traditional vacuum. I also like that if I need the floor to simply be cleaner than it currently is, it gets some dirt up. Looking at the run history, I have only used the Roomba about once per month... that averages out to $30 per use...eek. My traditional Shark vacuum that claims to never lose suction... well, has yet to lose suction after 5 years! It is my primary tool for cleaning all of the floors in my house. Overall, this was a waste of money that perhaps would've been better spent on a high-quality cordless stick vacuum. Or maybe, a good replacement for the traditional high-powered corded vacuum just doesn't exist yet.

Nice little helper iRobot

This model is picked due to the self emptying process. It is a great idea, however robot gets confused time to time. Misses the prescheduled times, mostly due to it needs some assistance. It works great when all is good. Just need to keep it clean from tangled hair and clean the metal connections once a month; replace the filter per schedule and keep an eye on the side brush since it requires to be replaced once in a while. The bag in the base unit for auto emptying is big enough for a few weeks in our case, depending the size of the home and the dirt to be collected. Overall a nice machine, but have to admit that we spend more time to keep it maintained well. The previous model was less maintenance compared to this even with the non-auto-emptying function. Overpriced, falling apart, doesn't work

This vacuum has had issues from the day we bought it and we regret we did not return it before the return period expired.Performance: The vacuum regularly gets stuck on it's own. A LOT!It doesn't "learn" trouble areas where it repeatedly gets stuck, like sliding glass door tracks (even with the glass doors closed) and inside a bathroom. The only workaround is to create "off limits" zones, but this is a complicated and time consuming process.The vacuum does not have accurate estimations of it's distance back to the home base and many times has run out of batteries before it could make it back to recharge, so you have to pick it up and place it on the base.The "self emptying" feature is EXTREMELY glitchy. We have tried putting brand new bags on, only to have the same error.The rotating brushes have an inferior design that does NOT handle human hair well. In a home with 3 girls, this is quite a problem. The rotating brushes get jammed and tangled up with even the smallest amount of hair.Inferior materials quality:The 3 pronged horizontal rotating brush has had 2 of it's 3 rubber "arms" with brushes on the end fall off. Again, poor design if the vacuum and brushes are designed in a way that puts too much strain on the brushes to remain intact. (They appear to have regular prompts suggestion you buy new brushes, filters and front to back rotating grips, so perhaps they are trying to adopt a model of making more money off of parts they already did from the initial - high - purchase price?)Tech support: I called and spoke with someone from iRobot tech support. He was not empathetic or even apologetic for a negative experience and basically said there is nothing they could do about it and nothing is under warranty after a certain amount of time from the date of purchase.PRIVACY: iRobot recently was purchased by Amazon. There is an article out saying that data is able to be gathered from the device about the layout of your home and that it stores visual pictures and/or video clips using the camera that helps guide it around your home. I have not verified this, but it just another point to be aware of when considering if this device is right for you or not.

Hubby purchased this i7+ for me as a gift (I asked for it) because I wanted to upgrade my 980 series Roomba (which was still working perfectly by the way) specifically for the self emptying bin that has only worked about 6 times in the past year. I cleaned, replaced then cleaned everything good again but to no avail! If I had wanted to empty it manually myself he would have never paid the additional $300+ for the self empty unit to begin with, DuH! I Have emailed & messaged several times through my iRobot app with NO REPLY to date! I've been looking to buy one of these for a while and have been researching brands, models, and pricing. QVC is nearly half the price of other retailers for same item. It was easy to set up the app and charge the Roomba. It takes 3-4 mapping jobs to detail your house map. I have a two story so it took a bit more to separate the way I wanted, but once it was done and I was able to set the room boundaries and labels, it made cleaning easy. Well, that's not the case, it will bump into water bowls, roll over cords, socks, etc. and will get stuck. So I made sure to pick up most hazards to ensure it could clean more efficiently - especially under furniture. I was not successful making an avoidance zone in each room (like to avoid the dogs water bowl). The other complaint is that for some reason it could not handle shredded paper scraps well. When I empty the shredder, it leaves remnants on carpet. I always have to pull out my Dyson to finish picking it up no matter how many times the Roomba cleans that area. You will also need to do regular maintenance if you want it to run well. I have 3 dogs, so there's lots of human and pet hair around. Weekly I remove the dust bin, take it outside and use compressed air duster to clean out the bin of all debris, and do the same with the air filter. If you don't, the dust bin sensors will be affected. I think the dust bin bag should be a bit larger too. I was surprised Roomba doesn't give you at least 1 extra bag when you purchase a new vacuum too. It only comes with 1 bag, and I had to replace it after about 15 cleaning jobs. It is great avoiding the stairs too - cliff avoidance sensors are awesome. It is slightly loud when trying to talk on phone when it's running in that room. It's a little louder on non-carpeted areas than when it's on carpet - which is expected. My favorite part of having this Roomba is the relief knowing how well it cleans under beds and furniture. I could never clean well under the furniture with my upright. The Roomba is a beast in tackling these parts of the home. Overall, I highly recommend this Roomba for any household. It is easy to use, and makes the day to day cleaning maintenance of your home much easier. You will never 100% replace an upright - because you need it to get into the nooks and crannies of your house (blinds, ceiling fans, sliding door & window tracks, behind toilets and large appliances) but it's nice not to do all of the vacuuming by hand.
