Almost great for what you pay

TL;DR - Good for the price, great audio, some sound cutting out randomly (I'm guessing from them being factory-refurbished), and for me specifically at least, comfort issues. As someone who has tried to hunt for a good deal on Ebay quite often, I decided to take a shot at these Refurbished JBL Reflect Mini NC earbuds. I'll start with the good. Firstly, they are fairly quick to charge, and hold a charge for a solid amount of time. I've gone on 3-4 hour drives in these recently, and 1 charge was enough to go out and most of the way back with zero charge issues. The case isn't as long-lasting as the headphones are, but both for now charge quick. I expect that to change over time, but for now it's pretty impressive. Second is the sound quality. JBL's been a more recent brand I've taken a gamble on, and it's been a very pleasant surprise that they sound great. You definitely get more audio control options with JBL's app, but even without it, it's pretty solid. Good base, sound is clear, nothing distinctly negative comes to mind. The only two thing I'd give a mediocre review of for these puppies are Firstly, the fact that the touch controls can be a bit iffy. You need to push the earbud in the JUST right spot to get things to pause and for the Google Assist to activate properly, but once you get used to using them over time, you'll find that spot more naturally. You also can't just "tap" the side, either. You'll need to touch and hold the earbud for a solid second. Second iffy thing is the auto-pause feature on them. If your earbud shifts a bit, it will cause a sensor that detects if it's near your ear or not to auto-pause the audio. This can be annoying at times, as your earbud might have popped out just slightly, and everything will automatically pause. I feel this is not the real issue, though, as my biggest complaints are more the cause of this I feel. So now the downsides: The only minor negative I have is I have had the audio just randomly cut out on me for no reason. No auto-pause, no power in the headphones dying, the sound just disappears. I'll have to pull an earbud out to get the audio to pause, and put it back in, which sometimes fixes the problem. Other times, I need to put the buds back in the case and take them back out again (essentially turning them off-and-on again.) I'm guessing this is why they are factory refurbished, but it isn't a major issue yet. If this (or anything else) changes, I'll adjust my review appropriately. The REAL downside is comfort. These earbuds come with 3 sized earbud tips and tops, which you can combine in anyway to fit your ear, which is very nice. However, the biggest issue is that because it's shaped like it is, I've had a devil of a time find a combination that is genuinely comfortable for me to use. I'm at the point I'm looking for generic off-brand versions that will fit better, or be a different material. For now, I can get by with my ears hurting a little bit and then fading as time goes by, but the second I take the buds out, I can immediately feel relief. While it's not the same, I used to have the Bose Soundsport earbuds, and if there's one thing Bose got right, it's the comfort fit tips. Those puppies could sit in my ears for HOURS on end and I wouldn't notice. With these JBL Reflects, I can tell IMMEDIATELY that it's not comfy. Overall, for the price, I will not complain. I got my refurbished pair for $30, and they're very much worth that price and more. If they were more comfortable and the audio didn't cut out, I'd give this an easy 5 stars, but for now, I gotta go with 3 stars.

Excellent Audio Quality, and Fabulous Product!

I bought the JBL Free II refurbished a few days ago, and am blown away by the sound quality. The bass is booming and I can get much more noise out of the Free II than my JBL Vibe300. Overall an awesome pair of earbuds, especially for the price I recieved them at (a little over $20, refurbished and on sale). One thing to keep in mind when choosing these is that they don't have touch control, it's an actual push button on the bud; so if you're bothered by having to actually apply some preassure onto an earbud while in your ear, that's something to keep in mind. For me, pushing the button at first would jam the bud into my ear and wasn't a comfortable experience. However, I've discovered you simply need to push slightly upward so that the bud is pushed against the rest of your ear, and not right onto your eardrums. Overall my only complaint is the controls on mono mode and stereo mode. Stereo mode the controls are awesome; tap once on the left ear to skip forward, twice to skip back, and once on the right to play/pause, and twice to open Siri or other assistants. However, I was disappointed in the controls on mono mode. For me, I like to skip a lot and surf through my playlist to find a specific song, but when you only have one earbud in, you don't have the ability to skip at all. For those who dont keep their phone in their pocket, or dont walk away from their phone or computer while listening with bluetooth, this isnt a problem, as you can simply control on your device. However, I wish that instead of having two taps on the single bud open Siri etc., that two taps could skip forward, one would pause, and if you wanted to open a virtual assistant, you could just press and hold. That is my only complaint, and it isn't too serious, as if I want to use my buds to skip but only want one ear, I can simply take one out and use it as a control. Overall, I love the product and would totally recomend, or buy again.

Great Bang For You Buck

I have and enjoy the JBL Tune 230 NC earbuds, though they have a few minor issues. There are several improvements on the JBL Live Free 2 over the Tune 230 NC that make them the better choice. First is the fit. Most of the body on the Tune 230s hangs down the outside of the ear, like the Apple earbuds. They are well balanced in that respect, but pick up on high winds, even with noise canceling on. the Live Free 2s sit inside the curved recess of the ear and don't pick up on wind nearly as much. They are just as comfortable and I can wear them for hours at a time. Second the LF2s have better base. In fact the whole dynamic range is improved. They sound almost as good as comparably priced cans. The case is better designed too. It's smaller, making it more pocket friendly. For reasons I don't understand, the buds charge more reliably than the 230s do. And then there's the noise canceling. WOW! It's so noticeably improved that it's hard to believe they are from the same company. The 230's are good while walking in downtown, but the LF2s make most traffic noise irrelevant. You do, of course, have to ensure you have the right size silicone seals and are incerted properly. There are only two very minor items that aren't as good. The battery life on the LF2 buds is a little shorter, but under normal conditions, you won't even notice. And last, personally, I don't care for the metallic finish, though I think most people will prefer it. In summary, I'd say these are the best bang for the buck in the $100 street price true wireless NC buds.

I received these as a gift last Christmas. These are extremely good-sounding ear buds with impressive noise-cancellation features. They easily paired to my phone and computer, and the app works very well for configuration. The automated fit functions (leakage) are an innovative concept. They fit comfortably in my ears. The downside is, they are really not that good for calls. The party on the other end consistently comment that I sound like I'm in a tin can. My hope was to be able to use these as a handsfree headset to be able to attend meetings and switch between calls on my cell phone and desktop voip apps. JBL LIVE Free2 TWS earphone review

Over the last 2 weeks or so, I have used the JBL LIVE Free2 TWS earphones every day sitting around relaxing, out on walks, working around the house and even mowing the grass. First off, these are great-looking headphones – they remind me of shiny jelly beans! The case is easy to carry around and supports wireless charging. When I first opened the box the case showed two bars so I plugged them in using the USB-C cable and charging completed in about 30 minutes. The battery life of the LIVE Free2’s is very good getting between 5.5 to 6 hours of continuous playback medium volume. The earphones have LEDs to indicate charging and connection status. The power connection pins in the case are magnetic and hold the earphones well. The LIVE Free2’s come with three pairs of ear tips for the best fit. As I said, I use earphones frequently while working around the house and yard, but my ears are small so finding earphones with a comfortable challenging. To aid with that, the JBL Live Free 2’s design adopts an oval shape and feel light while in my ears. There was no pressure so I did not feel any pain in your ears even after wearing them for a long time. The JBL Live Free 2 supports multi-point connectivity that allows you to stay connected to two devices at the same time. For example, if you connect to a work smartphone and and a private smartphones at the same time, you can receive a call on the work phone and still listening to music on the private phone. When you answer the phone, the music stops automatically, and when you hang up the phone, the music starts again automatically. The earphones can each be used independently for single-ear use. Controlling the earphones involves tapping of the left or right earphone. The buttons don’t have tactile feedback, but there is a pleasant beep and a voice announcement of each function as it is being selected. The listening experience was excellent from a variety of streaming services such as YouTube, Spotify and Audible. I used several playlists that ranged from classical, jazz, classic rock to spoken voice. Selections included Chopin, Mozart, Miles Davis, Led Zepplin, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd and sundry podcasts just to name a few. The LIVE Free2’s provided a good balance between mid and low frequencies. The bass is solid and powerful while the highs were smooth and airy.JBL’s Live Free 2 earphones also feature Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology. The technology listens to ambient noise and produces an opposing soundwave. This noticeably reduces the extraneous sounds the wearer hears. For example, with ANC turned on, I could not hear my ceiling fan running on high even without music playing. Mowing the grass with the ANC active greatly reduced the sound of mower’s engine. The LIVE Free2’s also have “Ambient Aware” and “Talkthrough” features. Ambient Aware lets you hear ambient sounds while leaving the volume of the playback levels as is. The Talkthrough feature is a conversation-oriented function where playback levels are decreased by about 20% and speech is amplified. Usually, I remove my earphones when I’m talking to someone, but with the Talkthrough feature, there’s no need. For me, the JBL Live Free 2 wireless earphones are an excellent choice that provide very good sound quality, call quality, and ANC performance.

With that active it's like I have a pair of subwoofers on my head, but the sound is still great.Battery life hasn't been an issue. I've never had them run out but I would say you'll get a minimum of 5 hours with ANC active. Speaking of ANC, it is very solid for a pair in this price range. Not quite what Sony or Bose offers on their flagship earbuds but way better than average. Passthru is also commendable. There aren't many negatives to this pair. A few minor annoyances are maybe the occasional touch that gets registered when adjusting them (which happens with most touch earbuds), and maybe an occasional brief cut-out which may be as much from my phone as the earbuds. These have become my daily go-to earbuds. Highly recommended, especially if you like some thump to your music.

Really nice upgrade
16 June 2022

I’ve been using happily using premium wireless earbuds for a few years now, so I was hesitant to believe these would be worth upgrading to. But after about a week’s worth of use, I’m a firm believer. First of all, these earbuds are much lighter. I didn’t think my previous earbuds were heavy at all, but these are significantly lighter, and thus more comfortable. I attended a Zoom conference for several hours and didn’t even notice I was wearing them. The JBL app interface is also improved, another pleasant surprise. Within the app you can turn on/off noise cancellation, adjust the bass/treble, customize the controls, and test the fit of the earbuds. A cool new feature I noticed is “voice aware” which lets you control the amount of audio feedback you hear. A cool new feature I noticed is “voice aware” which lets you control the amount of audio feedback you hear. I didn’t think I would need this feature, but I played around with it during my Zoom conference calls, and it’s a game changer. I also love that I have the option of voice prompts for turning features on/off. Again, this wasn’t a feature I ever knew I needed, but especially when toggling between noise cancellation, talk-through and ambient aware, I found that I really loved having verbal feedback instead of just a sound or beep.My final comment is on the shape because I had conflicted feelings about it. At first I didn’t really like it, my first thought is that they were super slippery jelly beans. I had a hard time getting them quickly out of the case and into my ears. And trying to adjust them in my ears would set off the gestures. But after a day or two, I realized I just needed to get used to them. The slight curve in the shape is actually designed for holding them (duh). And the small shape actually mean that they fit really nicely inside my ear. They don’t stick out like crazy. I wore them on a long flight and was able to rest my head comfortably on a pillow without jabbing the earbuds into my head. I was very happy! In conclusion, a really really nice set of premium earbuds. The amazing JBL sound is what you would expect. But it also adds a few thoughtful features that really impressed me and make them worth upgrading to.

Versatile earbuds in sustainable packaging
9 August 2022

The earbuds are great but wanted to start the review by complementing the packaging. I've dinged product ratings in the past for including unnecessary single-use plastic packaging, so was very excited to open the box and find almost no plastic in the packaging at all! Big step in the right direction for JBL which I definitely appreciated. The only parts of the packaging that weren't paper/compostable were a 3"x2"x1" foam cube that the buds were secured in, the plastic tab on top of the outer box used to hang in retail stores, a small cloth pull tab to help get the inner box out of the outer box, and a small plastic window in the inner box to be able to see the earbuds themselves without opening the box. All of these seem unnecessary to me, so here's to hoping JBL ... MoreThe earbuds are great but wanted to start the review by complementing the packaging. All of these seem unnecessary to me, so here's to hoping JBL finds a way to eliminate them too, but big kudos for eliminating all the previously included plastic dunnage. As for the earbuds themselves, I've really enjoyed using them. I switched the soft tips to the smallest ones that were included since the default/medium ones kept popping out of my ears - no fit issues since then. They even remain in my ears when wearing them on runs, and so far I haven't had any issues from sweat (water resistance rated IPX5).I love the form factor of the earbuds as well as how compact the case is. The noise-cancelling is pretty solid for in-ear buds, and I like the gentle tap interface on them for play/pause/next/etc. Previous buds I've owned (including ones from JBL) have required a more forceful push/click which often caused discomfort by shoving the buds deeper into my ears, but not the case with these.I have received a few complaints of poor/quiet mic audio quality when using these on calls, but typically only gotten the feedback when the office/setting had louder background noises. I've also experienced the Bluetooth connection drop randomly a few times, though not very frequently at all.Last quick warning to the fidgeters like me out there: I have a habit of holding the case in my hand and clicking the lid open and shut like some castanets. Whenever I do this while my phone is connected to my over-ear headphones, the LiveFree earbuds will override the Bluetooth connection, and I'll have to quickly switch it back to the over-ear ones. This is actually probably a good feature (earbuds connecting automatically when case is opened), and the pet peeve is obviously my fault/specific to my fidgeting situation, but thought it would be worth calling out in case designers can add in a two or three seconds delay for future versions.Overall great set of earbuds.

Very versatile, well-designed, and high-quality

These earbuds are great and they feel very new especially if you have other JBL products. What I mean by is that most of the features that have been missing from the previous JBL earbuds are now available with this new model.Sound: These sound good straight out of the box. However, I found them to sound much better after playing around with the equalizer. Although they are very clear, they weren't very loud and were missing some bass. After enabling EQ and adjusting the sound, they were performing brilliantly. The lows/bass are very punchy, mids/vocals are very clear, and even high-hats at the highs are powerful. Then, the adjustments I referred to above can be executed via the JBL Headphones app and I love it! Then, the adjustments I referred to above can be executed via the JBL Headphones app and I love it! The new user interface is very aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate through. I love that we can now adjust and set the amount of adaptive noise canceling or ambient aware we want from the earbuds. Combined with the tight seal of the ear canal, the ANC performs very well and it blocks most of the noise. It’s very comfortable in the ear as far as the pressure goes and I sometimes forget that I have these earbuds on with the ANC. It made my commute more enjoyable and blocked all of the general noises and barely let in the loudest noises on public transportation. Ambient aware is a very useful feature but the old earbuds lacked this adjustment option. I'm definitely going to be using the ambient aware feature more often with these earbuds. The same case applies to the adjustable ANC feature. Overall, I love the customizability of these earbuds via the app and it definitely adds a lot of value to the listening experience.Microphone: It's a great sounding microphone and many people said that I sound crystal clear. However, the quality went down a little bit when I was on a very loud shuttle bus ride. So, unless you're in a loud place with a lot of motion, the microphone should be more than enough (based on my experience). The best feature has to be the VoiceAware in the app. It enables the user to control how much of their own voice they hear during calls. When I picked up a call, it disabled my ANC and turned on my assigned setting automatically. This is a great feature because I tend to talk loud with earbuds in and this allows me to judge my own voice and adjust it accordingly to not bother anyone in public.Charging case: I love the wireless charging!!! This was a must for JBL earbuds and I'm happy that we have that in this case. The case is very compact, sturdy, minimal, professional-looking, and has a matte silver finish. The two magnets/pins inside the case are also very strong and they pull the earbuds right into place (Not all magnets place the earbuds correctly so it's important to mention). The LED battery indicators in the front are also very sleek and blend in. They give a general idea of how much battery is left but I prefer to check the accurate battery percentage via the app.Battery Life: I got just over 5 hours with these earbuds (ANC turned on) but I usually use them on my commute so the battery life wasn't a problem for me. They also charge very fast and live up to the "15min charge = 4h music" claim. Even if they run out of battery you can always pop them back in the charging case and get a usable percentage back.Side note: The orange USB Type-C charging cable that came in the box is very short.On-earbud control buttons: I love that they are customizable in the JBL Headphones app as usual. There are different presets you can assign to each earbud such as one touch on the right to stop the music and tap twice to go to the next track and the same with the left earbud. They have a large surface area on the outside where the touch controls work and the battery is located. Despite this factor, the touch area is located in a very convenient spot so it's hard to miss the touch control. At the same time, it's very sensitive. That's a plus for me because a simple/light touch stops the music. There were some instances where I paused or played the music by accident but it wasn't often and didn't bother me. The silver look is very elegant and looks high-quality from the side.Fit: They fit quite nicely and comfortably despite their shape. Most of the earbuds I have from JBL are rounded. They pretty much cover the entire entrance of the ear canal. On the other hand, these earbuds kind of stretch the ear horizontally. Although it's a different fit, I enjoyed it better than my other earbuds. The positive side of this shape is that I don't have to pinch my ear or try to squeeze out the earbuds. They have a small dent at the top which houses the index finger when taking out the earbuds and it makes the process easier. This shape also blends in with the ear better than others. It doesn't stick out or look awkward in the ear. The earbuds are also very lightweight with great insolation.Other points: There is a section in the app to check the best fit for earbuds which essentially just tells you if you have the earbuds on correctly. Then, there's an ear canal test that "analyzes your ear canal to give you the best ANC experience." I wish I could've provided feedback on this as well but it didn't work. I updated my app and did everything but it always failed and gave an error message. There's also the classic auto & pause feature. Sensors detect if the earbuds are placed in the ear or not and play/pause the audio automatically. These can be turned off from the app but I enjoy it on. Lastly, the earbuds are good with remembering the last settings you applied or set. However, one annoying feature, at first, was the one earbud usage. The single earbud automatically goes into ambient aware mode and let all the noise in once the other one is placed into the charging case. It took me a little bit to figure out what was going on or find the cause of it. Everything was fine once I switched off the ambient sound control tab in the app with the single active earbud.Overall, these earbuds are very versatile, well-designed, and high-quality. I can see why it received an honoree award from the 2022 CES Innovation Awards. This pair already replaced my current earbuds and I can easily recommend them. These are hands-down the best pair of TWS earbuds I have from JBL.
