Jetboil Flash - Carbon

Jetboil SUMO is fantastic! Great cooking system for backcountry and car camping. Boils water (1.8L) within a few minutes, much faster than other stoves. This makes for fast and easy coffee on those cold mornings! I love that there is a measuring cup included that covers the metal coils at the bottom, and a fuel canister stabilizer so you can cook on multiple surfaces. Pot support also allows you to use a frying pan on top of the stove rather than just the large container. Also great for packing is that a small fuel canister nestles inside the large container.

Amazing stove for boiling water

Back in 2020 I rekindled my love of the backcountry after a 10 year hiatus. That Christmas my wife bought me a Jetboil Flash which took me by surprise because until that point I'd been perfectly happy with my existing stove, an MSR Pocket Rocket. But I cheerfully accepted the Flash and haven't looked back since. I've been super happy with it. It boils two cups of water so fast that, in many cases, by the time I've started the boil, pulled out my cutlery, torn off the top of the pouch and looked back at the pot the water is pretty much already boiling.For more conventional cooking I'd suggest looking elsewhere. The Flash has two settings: off and full blast. There's little to no simmer control. It's really good for boiling water only, which suits my needs perfectly. Highly recommend!

Boils water. Don't try to actually cook with it.

I've had this for a couple of years now. I've experienced the igniter issues, easily fixed by correcting the gap, like EVERY piezo-electric igniter. Other than that it's been remarkably reliable and durable. It boils water really fast, and is easy to use for that. If you plan to do anything more complicated than boiling water, pick a different model. Seriously. There's no regulator, so it doesn't simmer, and if you try to start it with the valve only opened a little, it will go out as soon as the initial head of pressure bleeds off. Open the valve all the way, ignite it, and boil water. That's it. But if that's what you need, it works like a champ.

Cooking in the wild

I love my jetboil and how versatile and compatible it is. I've had it for over 5 years now and it still functions as intended. I've only had to replace my jetboil due to the reasons listed in the next paragraph (because I abused it). I bought it for backpacking but I also use it for day hikes in snow or high elevation because I like to have a cup of noodles or coffee when it's cold and this jetboil is so quick with boiling water.Warning: #1 - I do not recommend cooking anything in the jetboil canister as it can stick or ruin the canister. I tried making chili in my first jetboil and it stuck and I couldn't wash it off. Fast water boils terrible reliability

I have had this system for about a year now. I really like the speed of boils for soups, freeze dried meals, and hot drinks. I read a lot of people saying the outer cover melting or even starting on fire. But I can say I haven't experienced any major malfunctions. Cans spin on good and snug container locks on stove part nice and snug also. The one problem I do have is the igniter doesn't work. When I first got it use it ice fishing for about two months. Then it became hit and miss weather it was going to work. So bottom line don't rely on it always have a form of backup ignition source. I also have noticed using actual jetboil fuel cans do spin on and off without leaking much gas versus other brands of gas.

Great outdoor stove

Igniter Fails. Common Issue.

Bought it two years ago and have used it maybe 15 times. This weekend, the igniter wouldn’t spark. It arcs out below the flame. Looking online, this appears to be a very common problem. Called JetBoil, and I have to purchase a $50 burner assembly replacement as they don’t sell an igniter replacement. The stove works well overall to heat things, but I can’t recommend an expensive product with a recurring design defect that didn’t last for very long. For the money spent on a jet boil, it should be much more durable for much longer, and an unreliable stove on a backpacking trip could be a big problem. Luckily, a friend had a lighter.

Life saver

This is my third jet boil, kept to the flash family because of how quick and easy it is to set up. Whole thing one is new and I've one boiled water in it to try it out. If it stands up to what my older flash is like, this thing is limitless. Used it summiting Mount Rainier and Evans in WA, Backcountry of Alaska, to boiling water so my rugby players can form mouth guards on the pitch. For a mountaineering trip 3-4 days, two cold weather cans are good. Occasionally use throughout the year a large can will do. Specially good for cold wet days and all you want is some coffee or mountain meal over an MRE.Been a loyal customer since 2008.

Limited flash jet boil review.

I'm new to the jet boil type of stoves. In the past I've used alcohol, or kerosene models. I took my flash on my back porch on a 40° windy day. I wanted to see for myself if the system could really boil a pot of water in 100 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised when it did just that with a second to spare. I'm impressed with the build quality and attention to detail. I believe this type of stove excels in boiling dehydrated prepackaged meals, as well as making coffee etc rather quickly. I wouldn't use it to cook a base camp meal but then again it wasn't designed for that. I've ordered the half gen, and the large pot for those purposes. I can't wait until they arrive and I can hit the trail with them!

The Best There Is

My Jet Boil is so old, they don't even sell it anymore. This one is the closest to my version that is still available. I bought mine in 2005 and have used it on hundreds of climbs and backpacking trips. It is the only original gear I still have in my kit from when I moved west. Needless to say, this is thing works exceptionally well every single time. Sure, the starter stopped working the first or second season, but don't we all carry a lighter and matches anyway? The cup is versatile, the materials incredibly durable, and the boil time is faster and more efficient than my buddy's pocket rocket. Plus, I never need to worry about it tipping over.
