I bought the Jetboil Flash 2.0 and it had a faulty and weak burner so I returned it.I then ordered the original Jetboil Flash.I start it and the burner works well. It was slightly windy but not too much. The flame was not super high too so I put the container on the burner and lock it in place. I turn around to grab my food and start smelling something burning. I approached my hand to turn off the burner but the container's sleeve caught on fire! This is truly a bad design. Jetboil should definitely look into making the sleeve higher up the container in case the flame slightly goes to the side. This is disastrous and has occurred to other people too according to my research. Switching to MSR PocketRocket 2 from now on, this one does not have a sleeve that can get ... MoreI bought the Jetboil Flash 2.0 and it had a faulty and weak burner so I returned it.I then ordered the original Jetboil Flash.I start it and the burner works well. I love my jetboil and how versatile and compatible it is. I've had it for over 5 years now and it still functions as intended. I've only had to replace my jetboil due to the reasons listed in the next paragraph (because I abused it). I bought it for backpacking but I also use it for day hikes in snow or high elevation because I like to have a cup of noodles or coffee when it's cold and this jetboil is so quick with boiling water.Warning: #1 - I do not recommend cooking anything in the jetboil canister as it can stick or ruin the canister. I tried making chili in my first jetboil and it stuck and I couldn't wash it off. The gas canisters are affordable

This is a great beginner stove for folks who don't want to mess with slightly more complicated options or don't want to wait a trivial extra amount of time for their water to boil. It's very heavy and expensive though, so much so that I don't think it's worth it. REI sells MUCH better stove options from MSR, Snow Peak, etc. and there are a lot of titanium pot options from any number of companies. If you want to switch from a taller water/drink system (like this) to a wider pot that is easier for trail meals like ye olde ramen bomb then you're not stuck with one pot and can more easily do that. Same with thinner/lighter titanium pot options. If you really are into efficiency then either stack rocks around your stove/pot to block the wind, buy an ultralight wind ... MoreThis is a great beginner stove for folks who don't want to mess with slightly more complicated options or don't want to wait a trivial extra amount of time for their water to boil. The good: The fastest water boiler I've ever used. The indicator is kinda cool too. What to consider: The fire is on full blast no matter how far you turn the release. However, you'd want to turn it all the way to ignite. The bad: The igniter became unreliable just after half a dozen times of using it. After untwisting and attaching back the gas canister, I'd say it's a 50/50 shot on if it works, so bring a lighter if you usually don't because this is the only time you'd use fire in your hikes/camps/etc... Also, the twisting part can bend, as mine had.Gave it a 4 out of 5, but it's really more of a 3.7 out of 5.
This is a replacement to a previous Jetboil I have. I stuck with this brand because of the high quality of the product, how well this design works, and the built-in lighter. It is nice not to have to carry a separate lighter, although I do just to because a backup is always good in the back country.Wind does decrease the efficiency of this stove, so always good to shield it somehow. And cold fuel canisters also decrease how well the stove works. You should also use the stabilizing feet on the fuel canister to reduce spills with the top-heavy boiler.
I've used JetBoils for years and generally loved them. I purchased a new Flash last year and returned it because the base was wobbly and loose. This review is for the replacement, which I'd tested briefly at home, then taken on a short backpacking trip.It functioned fine for the first few uses, but I started to smell something synthetic burning on the 3rd use. I quickly realized that the bottom of the insulation sleeve was melting, and the handle had detached at the bottom. There was no obvious flame coming out the sides, and nothing looked different from normal use.Additionally, the piezoelectric ignition switch started to be unreliable after a few uses, and I ended up needing to use a match to start the last few boils of the trip. The basic jetboil stove has ... MoreI've used JetBoils for years and generally loved them. This is my favorite Jetboil product that I’ve tried!! I love how simple this is to use and clean and being able to boil water in under two minutes has made cooking in the backcountry a breeze! I also love that you can also get the french press attachment to make coffee. It’s really lightweight and doesn’t take up much space in a pack. We even bring this skiing sometimes with a few packs of Ramen when we don’t want to pay resort prices for lunch :)I’ve used Jetboil products for years and have not been gentle with my gear and am amazed with how sturdy their products are! A tiny piece of my Jetboil broke a few months ago (entirely my fault lol) and they sent me a new cook system immediately without asking me to send the old one in, which was absolutely life-saving ... MoreThis is my favorite Jetboil product that I’ve tried!! I currently own an MSR pocket rocket which I have used for years. Recently, I have started taking my young children backpacking with me and liked the idea of being able to heat up a lot of water fast. The Jetboil Flash exceeded my expectations for this purpose. Super fast and easy to set up. I was able to quickly heat up water for meals, then again for cleanup. I brought up a fuel canister that is almost empty, thinking I would finish it off. I filled the pot with water and brought it to a boil 5 times on our overnight trip and never ran out of fuel. This thing is super efficient. I also loved the integrated igniter on this. For longer solo trips where minimizing weight and volume are top priority, I will continue to use the pocket rocket as the Jetboil is a little ... MoreI currently own an MSR pocket rocket which I have used for years. i bought a jet boil for my trip to colorado for archery elk. dummy me, i didn't try it before i left. while at camp the first night, and trying to have a warm dinner in the cooler temps, i unpacked my jet boil and got it set up. to my unluckiness, the ignitor did not produce enough of a spark to get a flame going. in fact, it was about a 1-4 on a spark actually showing up. so we had to revert to lighting it with a stick lighter from camp. And lucky my dad had his, so we swapped out and made sure that his was packed when we did over nights. We compared his unit to mine and the length of the wire was different and also in a different configuration then mine. we aren't sure if that made the difference or what it was, but either way, i returned the other one and bought ... Morei bought a jet boil for my trip to colorado for archery elk. dummy me, i didn't try it before i left. while at camp the first night, and trying to have a warm dinner in the cooler temps, i unpacked my jet boil and got it set up. to my unluckiness, the ignitor did not produce enough of a spark to get a flame going. in fact, it was about a 1-4 on a spark actually showing up. so we had to revert to lighting it with a stick lighter from camp. I would still recommend this product, but i would also emphasize testing the units ahead of time before making the trek out somewhere as not to have it ignite.
My wife got me a Jetboil for Christmas as I rekindled my love of the outdoors last year after a 10-year hiatus. I really didn’t need a new cooking system as I was content with my MSR Pocket Rocket but cheerfully accepted the new stove. I’ve now taken it on a couple of trips: a two night snow sojourn up to Garibaldi Lake in early April, and more recently a seven day hike on the West Coast Trail. I’m very happy with the performance of the Jetboil.First I like the fact it’s a self contained unit. The stove, stand, small fuel canister and (optionally) coffee press all fit neatly inside the “pot”. It fires up instantly with the igniter and truly does sound like a jet engine as it rapidly boils 500 ml of water in short order. As a consumer of primarily freeze dried fare and other just-add-water meals the Jetboil works out great. But for those who also like to actually cook there’s a pot holder attachment that allows you to use the Jetboil with any other pot or pan for more conventional cooking. This optional add-on also fits inside the pot. That said I would say one drawback is the minimal simmer control. The Jetboil seems to have two settings: off and full blast. There is perhaps a subtle difference between the fuel being just barely turned on versus full blast. But I’d honestly suggest for those who like to cook more conventional fare in the backcountry you may want to look at other options that allow for more refined simmer control. As to fuel canister life, on my West Coast Trail trip I brought a small and medium canister. I used the small canister first and got four full days and about an additional half day before I exhausted the fuel. That’s with four to five boils per day (eg. 1. coffee, 2. breakfast, 3. Cup-a-soup, 4. Dinner, 5. misc. extra boil). This generally accords with the information presented on the canister claiming 24 boils from a full small canister. 24 is perhaps a slightly generous estimation but it’s in the ballpark. So all in all very happy with the Jetboil. It’s perhaps a few ounces heavier than my previous stove system but not ridiculously so. For those, like me, who primarily only need to boil water for their backcountry dining needs, the Jetboil will work out great for your needs.
