Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whisky

Bought an airplane bottle of it to try because my journey is a young one. Took me three minutes to get the god forsaken cap off since I fractured my wrist in a violent altercation with a 6 foot 9 fellow on PCP. I jest not. Anyhoo once I got past the stiff cap gatekeeper it pours a beautiful dark copper. Looks great next to the bacon and eggs I’m making at 7 in the morning. It’s going to be a beautiful day! Earthy notes in the nose. Brings to mind time spent in the woods, which is my favorite. Smoke and tobacco come to mind also. Lighter in the mouth than I expected. Spiciness hits up front, then the smoky oakiness comes rumbling up the middle like early 2000’s Jerome Bettis. But Black is good. Flat out. It’s a good sip for the price. Shave your hipster beard because contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t make you more manly, and pick up a bottle!

My Man loves Johnnie Walker Black! Loved this gift set that was available around Christmas time! The person at the liquor store actually showed me this gift set which included two unique glasses that was the same size bottle and same price except you also get two cool free Johnnie Walker brand glasses to enjoy your drink in! He loved this as a Christmas stocking stuffer! Hope they continue to offer holiday sets! The beverage is Highly recommended by him and I highly recommend the packaging/branding of this limited edition set! #keepwalking

I am not a drinker but do enjoy an occasional alcoholic beverage. I found myself liking hot toddies after trouble sleeping and I was given one made with Johnnie Walker Black as that is all that was available. I really enjoyed it, and it did help me sleep. After trying other blends/brands I could tolerate most but hated the taste. Johnny Walker Black blends nicely with the honey, fresh lemon, and the hot water brings it all together for a nice sipping beverage to drink over time and it's great if you can't sleep due to a cold or if you just can't sleep. The best part is I actually enjoy it!

2.5 vs. All, 5 Stars at $22

This was hard for me to rate. I give it 2.5 stars as a scotch, but an absolute bargain 5 starts at its price point. The ash tray comments are a bit over-blown. There is a bit of smoke, but it's not a smoke bomb by any means. I was feeling guilty having Oban 14 or McCallan 12 as my everyday drink. This fit the bill nicely. Try it! As you drink it you will have to keep reminding yourself that this is really inexpensive.

Better than red label

I’ve hesitated buying Johnny Walker after trying red label neat as one of my first whiskeys. But I wanted something Smokey and was told I needed to try Black Label. After I purchased it I didn’t smell smoke. My father in law introduced me to whiskey with a drink that smelt like campfire. Since then I’ve been trying to find a scotch or whiskey that smelt that way. So again on the smell I didn’t initially sense smoke and thought it was going to be disappointing. My first sip I couldn’t help but laugh to myself. Even though I couldn’t smell it I could taste it. Thanks to the price I will most likely always have a bottle of black label on my shelf. Burnt Rubber

Genuinely, don't understand how this gets such high marks. When I drank this, it waylaid me with this absolutely invasive burnt rubber/plastic taste. Kept thinking I was licking tires off of asphalt. I cant pick out anything else cause this flavor is just way too pervasive. Not only that, it left a lasting bitterness that really made it hard to go back for more.Since this was my first scotch, I had assumed it was just the profile of scotch, but I've since had Glenfiddich 12, which blasted away these assumptions. I've had a scot tell me that Johnnie Walker (and blended scotch in general) isn't what the locals drink, and to stick to single malts. Classy Cocktails With Johnnie Black

Of course it may enjoy neat, on-the-rocks or highballs though, my favourite magical mixology tour with Johnnie begins on Scotch Sidecar with freshly squeezed lemon juice and Cointreau, Silent Third in 1/3 ratio, Smoky Martini with gin and organic lemon zest, then Godfather with amaretto with organic orange peel Old Fashioned and Whisky Sour are textbook quality. In the summer, chilled sparkling water or wine may top up the Scotch Sidecar as a fizz version. In the winter, a shot with hot tea or coffee goes well as a winter warmer, which cinnamon coffee is nice as well. For this mid price blended scotch category, Johnnie is my favourite, so no substitution allowed (Our other favourites cost more in different price range.)

Loaded to the gunnels with E150 caramel :(

This blend was certainly better quality experience about 10 years ago. It's certainly dropped in quality.Fast arrival, just as fast of a finish, completely unmemorable. There's a bitter note from the overly charred cask influence , no sense of any peat smoke that I could detect but that may possibly have been drowned out by the over saturation of E150 caramel colourant which leaves a saccharine aftertaste that I simply could not get past. I mean look at the colour on this whisky, it practically glows in the dark.Being a blend I expect some E150 as that's what is common in blends, it's what's to be expected but this is over the top. OK for a blend

As a novice, but improving, whisky taster, this is my first bottle from Johnny Walker...I like this ok, good enough for the price. It has all of the Scotch flavors I love, but they feel raw and a bit sharp, not smooth and fellow like a fine Scotch.Nose is pepper and vanilla. Taste is mild spices and a mouth-coating smoke, lightly peaty. And the aftertaste is largely smoke and pepper that lingers nicely.

Perfect balance

I am not a fan of Smokey whiskeys. The first islay I tried was Ardbeg and it was not for me. To me it taste like licking an ashtray filled with iodine. I do enjoy collecting and trying different whiskeys and to be as far in my journey as I am I have never tried any JW. Kinda have stuck my nose up and walked right past them. Well went out to eat tonight and their selection was poor so I said what the heck let’s try it. I will have to say my first sip was kinda shocking to me. Smokey but sweet (very sweet) balanced very well with the smoke. Needless to say after that glass I checked the time realized my fav liquor store was closed and made plans to get up in the morning to grab me my first bottle of JW… I still refuse to try the red but give this one and maybe others ... MoreI am not a fan of Smokey whiskeys.
