Good comfort right out of the box and keeps the feet dry. The insole and insert are a bit noisy. You'll not be sneaking up on Sasquatch in these shoes, but it diminishes after a bit of paraffin under the insert. I would buy these again for hikes with our dog who needs about 3 miles a day, rain or shine. I choose Keens for their design, wider toe box, and overall ruggedness.

Without it, it would be otherwise uncomfortable to squat, or even take a good leap but with it there is this perfect balance between tough ridged out side and fully flexible motion.I'm still concerned with the ware of the ridge flex material, and the seams to add it. It's always the moving parts and seams that fail. We will see.

I got these for both work and hiking. The quality is well below what I expect for not only Keen but also for a $180 hiking shoe. The eyelets that the webbing goes through on the heel are out of place and do not line up with the hole they’re supposed to sit in. Very sloppy craftsmanship. The rubber bellow flex is gimmicky and uncomfortable, and the materials feel cheap. They are waterproof though. I stood in a stream taking photos and my feet remained dry. But that’s about all the good I can say about these. These miss the mark otherwise

The textured rubber around the outside and the mesh around the ankle feel pretty chincy. Definitely not what I've come to expect from Keen. And the midsole has wrinkles from being bent and glued into place, giving it a cheap appearance. This is the kind of low quality I expect from no-name brands you see in discount stores. The only two things I really like about the soft rubber sole and aggressive tread, which is great from traction, and the insoles which are far more comfortable than any other Keen insole I've tried. I hoped that the large toe box the Keens have would work even though they only had them in a wide, but not 4E wide. Maybe if I'd ordered a size 12 instead of the 11 1/2 it would have been ok but I was afraid the heel would then be to loose. I was somewhat skeptical because it seemed like it would be a weak spot easily ripped or torn. Also, I have a very mild neuroma after walking 10 plus miles hiking so the shoes provide the relief I normally get by lacing my shoes without using the bottom laces. There is a “zero” break in time. From box to trail the fit was perfect and true to size. The shoes held up spectacularly on my initial 40 mile hike thru the Tetons’s. The grip these provided me on the trail amazing. I put these to the real test -off the trails- during the summer months. I wore them as daily footwear working on a horse ranch. Literally, working in every type of weather, installing acres of fencing, shoveling horse manure, power washing, walking miles daily these shoes held up!!!!! My feet remained dry and comfortable rain/snow or sunshine. They show no signs of excessive wear on the soles, no rips or tears in the upper leather portions. I’m ordering a second pair to be used as my Appalachian Trail thru-hiking shoes. I would highly recommend these shoes for all hikers in the fifty plus y/o category.
My first pair of Keen hiking shoes, been using Salomon and Merrill for years. Shoe offers excellent comfort, support, good grip and Gortex works great keeping my feet dry in spring hiking conditions. In the first two weeks of owning these, I have put in about 30 miles of pretty intense spring New England trail hikes. They rank up there with any of the higher end hiking shoes I have used. What I like about the Keen is the heavy duty toe, being older, I stumble a lot and I like the extra rubber up front to reduce the impact. The only thing I could recommend for improvement are the laces. I'm used to Salomon's quicklace system and would love to see something similar with Keen. I would also drop a 1/2 size next time. The first pair of these shoes (purchased last April) was great in every respect. I recently purchased but then returned a second pair because of both poor stitching, and shoe laces that were both stretched and too short. I then purchased and returned a replacement pair with excellent stitching and other features, but with the same severely stretched, puny looking, too short shoe laces as the pair they replaced.
Keen makes shoes and sandals that last. Over the years, I have had many pairs. For a number of years Hoka has been my #1 choice, but they just don't stand up. I appreciate a LOT of padding underfoot which is why I liked Hoka. But now, I can have my cake and eat it too. These shoes =, 8.5 M wide have enough room to add in a second insole besides the default Keen sole. That coupled with the relative stiffness of the shoe, makes for an awesome day hiker, one my 72 year old feet appreciate. Not a vibram sole, but it doesn't lose points for that based on my use.
