Usually a great film but, I had a bad experience, fogged film, in the beginning I thought something was wrong with my camera/lab, then I try same day/camera/back/lab combo different film (purchased locally) and the problem is the film. It seems to be fogged maybe x ray? I live in Canada and used BH for my film supplies before no issues, now I got 2 boxes of basically non usable film and a bunch of ruined photos. Not happy.

I've been experimenting with different types of films over the past 3 years and have been on and off with Portra 400. After consistently trying out my first pack of 35mm, I've been enjoying the predictable, consistent results that I get from this film stock alone. Incredibly flexible and versatile film and the colors and tones I get out of them when editing in post is out of this world. I paired this film with my canon eos 1n rs and sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 for the whole pack and the resemblance and clarity of digital makes it difficult for me to go back to that medium. I would highly recommend this film.

I finally gave Portra 400 a try on a recent trip to Chicago, and I was extremely pleased with the results. This film is one of the most common for professional use for a reason. The best way I can describe it is "transparent." Not in the way that it doesn't color the images, it does, but in that it does exactly what I imagine it will. It is extremely versatile and handles most lighting conditions well. I've had a bunch of instances where I took a shot and internally thought "this probably won't come out, but it's too cool to pass up" and gotten the scans back to see that it came out almost perfectly! Highly recommend this film, although maybe try something cheaper first because it is expensive, haha.
My initial impression of this product was pretty good. I was impressed with the build quality and the looks. After installing my card and downloading the software the experience was as expected. I played for a few hours and went to bed. The next morning I started up my computer and ran into a "Thunderboldt device may not work properly" message... Cutting to the chase here, I've tried everything from reinstalling drivers to a clean installation of windows with moderate success. I have yet to pinpoint the exact causes of my woes but the "true plug and play" experience should not be trusted as advertised. Also holy hell, it's much heavier than I imagined it would be(which I guess is a testament to it's build quality). People don't really talk about that but I guess ... RGB is worth it when it decides it's going to work. TL;DR: I had a lot of trouble getting this to work consistently with my laptop (Lenovo yoga 15") your mileage may vary depending on your hardware and if they have worked out the software bugs.
Been shooting 35mm for the last 55 years. Recently decided I could afford a gently used Hasselblad 503 and was hoping that Kodak might still produce Vericolor II (which I shot for many years in 35mm) but in 120. . . . unfortunately no luck. The stuff had the best available light skin tones of any of any of the films I've worked with over the years. After reading the reviews on Portra 400 decided this might be my next best choice.

The colour negative that everyone compares other emulsions to. It’s a classic and for good reason - the exposure latitude and tones that come out of this film allow for great images even in challenging conditions. Works best in bright light, in subdued light the colours can be quite dull. The grain is fine and pleasant where visible (minimal on medium format). The scanned files also give a great base for further editing if desired. It is a shame that it is expensive, I do wonder if Gold in 120 might hamper the sales of this film…
The best film stock in a pack of 5, what more could you want? It's everyone's favorite film stock for a reason. It's expensive, it's warm, it boasts a tasteful grain. It's the best at ISO 400. If you want something cheaper go for color plus or kodak gold. But if you want to be a professional use this guy. I love it-and B&H always has the cheapest price with the fastest delivery. Don't bother on Amazon trust me. I've told all my friends just to load me up on this if they wanna gift me anything. Although I personally prefer Portra 160 for 35mm because I like portraits, this is more a do it all film and do it all well. I'd load up now before 2022 rolls around and prices go up, but it's already expensive so that extra dollar isn't gonna stop film photographers lol. If ... If you want 800 speed you could probably get away with pushing this instead of spending too much on Portra 800 too, although I've yet to try it. Portra 400 is basic, it's consistent, it's pastel, and it's beautiful. I think I've made my point. If you want richer greens reach for Fuji. There's no really wrong answer when it comes to film just preferences but this film slaps. It's the standard.
Kinda misses the mark. Cheap power supply. Took it to a computer shop and troubleshooted for hours before we got it working by swapping power supplys. Such a finicky design. Non standard power supply mount and adapter is hell. Had to greatly physically modify hardened case. Many cards including 40 series just don't work. Only makes sense if you have a box of modern video cards and tons of power supplies to run through to find a working combo.
