Kraken Black Spiced Rum 70cl

I was told by a lady at the liquor store this is a good dark spiced rum. I took a sip when I got it home and just about hurled. My brother and a friend tried it and both gagged. We tried it in a dark and stormy and it was undrinkable. I poured the rest of the half gallon down the drain immediately and went back to the liquor store to buy real dark rum. I told the lady how bad it was and she said she was sorry, that she had not had it but that it was popular, and I was stupefied. Do not buy this rum. It is THE WORST LIQUOR I HAVE EVER TASTED.

To be honest I haven't opened the bottle, yet. My complaint is with the holiday gift box. I bought several bottles of assorted liquors and was especially excited about the Kraken. The others came with lovely highball glasses or mini bottles, but the Kraken! It had an adorable dark teal glass with tentacles wrapped around it! How quickly my joy turned to disappointment to find a cheap, plastic cup! Something you'd get at a Polynesian restaurant if you bought a Mai Tai. The most expensive liquor with the cheapest "gift". That speaks volumes to the integrity of the company. I'll buy another brand next time.

I saw this little sample-sized bottle at a local liquor store for a dollar and couldn't pass it up because it the bottle was so cute! I was pleasantly surprised to taste it and find the best rum, and one of the best liquors, I have ever tried! I drank it straight, which I usually do with liquors, sometimes I find mixing liquors with other things causes too much conflicting flavors. I'm not generally a big alcohol drinker, but I genuinely loved this one. It is spicy, smooth, sweet, and has a nice but not overwhelming burn. It has very nice notes of vanilla as well. If I were to mix it with anything, my first choice would be eggnog, the warm spicy flavors mixed with sweet creamy eggnog would probably really improve my eggnog enjoyment! I was hesitant to try this rum when it first came out. I wasn't sure what to expect. Since I always have a large variety of rum on hand it wasn't a priority. I finally took the plunge was pleasantly surprised. Not one to drink straight in my opinion but mixed with Cola it came out very well. Not one you want to over do it with but a mildly strong drink will hit the spot. Mixes incredibly well with Dr. Pepper so I recommend making that.

In college, I became a fan of a certain spiced dark rum with a Golden Age of Piracy guy on it. 😉 In the years after college, my friends and I branched out to try some new (or at least to us) brands like The Kraken Black Spiced Rum. I find this rum's spice blend to be equally delicious and that I actually reach for it more often than my former pirate ☠rum. I feel like the rum cokes I make with this are easier for those who almost never drink (like my mom) to take on that 1 drink a year she'll let me make her for Christmas. I enjoy adding rum to my oatmeal and when a friend left this behind after a house party, I was sure to try it with my oatmeal the next working. As with most Spiced rums it is very aromatic. Vanilla and also a caramel/heavy molasses like smell are very present. When sipped neat The Kraken is very sweet and tastes slightly synthetic, almost medicinal in a way. It’s not unpleasant but overall there is something quite artificial about the taste. It is possible that the actual rum in the blend is not particularly well aged or a particular good rum. The smoothness of the rum may mean a lot of caramel and other flavourings have been used to hide the roughness of the rum. I was a Capt'n guy before i tried the Kraken. OMG. Hands down this is the best (hi proof) spiced rum I've ever had. It goes well with sooo many things. Its dark, rich rummy goodness is backed up by flavors of caramel/toffee and vanilla and I adore it. Just a side note; if you're gonna go see The Cursed Child, and they're offering the BB slushies with a shot of Kraken..... get two of them. That combination is divine.

And maybe I’m making too much of this, because there are intentionally placed worms in tequila bottles. But as I was preparing to take (another) sip of my most recent K&C, I found a stowaway floating next to the ice cubes. It’s wings were gone, but not its legs—it was very obviously a fly. Now, its -20 where I live, and flies are nowhere to be found, except, I guess, in my drink! I poured out the glass AND the bottle, because protein or no, that’s not what I want to find in my cocktail. Now I am drinking lighter rums so I can see through the bottle to make sure nothing lurks inside. The Kraken 94 is a love it or hate it type of spiced rum. Those that hate it say that it tastes like a warm, flat cola. I don’t get that at all. What I do get is vanilla, dark coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, spice, and sweetness.At 47% ABV, you will get a slight warmth. Not a burn. Just a warm tingle down your throat. The finish is long. I paid $21 for a 750 ML bottle. Well worth it. There is enough depth to put a cube of ice on it without watering it down too much. In the summer, that’s how I would drink it. In the winter, neat is the way to go.As a mixer, Kraken 94 works perfectly. With a Coke, you get a little heat and spice. This makes a great Dark and Stormy as well. Still, I prefer it neat.

Kraken Spiced Rum

I have purchased this product on previous occasions, it is excellent. Smooth with plenty of enjoyable flavour. I really enjoy it. I circle of friends I do have also have this opinion. It was recommended to me. I strongly dare persons to taste it once, and you will also be a regular to enjoy this rum. Slightly more expensive than other options, but worth the cost.
