KRK Systems Rokit 5 G3 Powered Studio Monitor

(325 reviews)

The RoKit 5 G2 from KRK is a two-way active nearfield monitor ideal for use in project or small professional studios. The monitor features a 5 glass aramid composite cone woofer that maximizes performance while minimizing distortion. The 1 neodymium soft dome tweeter provides a more natural sound than metal-domed tweeters, providing more natural mixes with less ear fatigue. The bi-amplified design provides 45W of total power to the speaker elements. The wood cabinet features a front-firing bass port and a radically curved front baffle for minimal diffraction and a wide sweet spot. The recessed high frequency waveguide focuses the sound away from the cabinet and provides optimal pattern control. The rear of the cabinet features XLR, TRS, and RCA inputs, allowing you to connect the monitor to virtually any sound system. An input gain control lets you precisely set the monitor to work with your other audio components, while an HF level control helps you match the speaker to your environment. The monitor is shielded for safe use near video monitors and computers.

Amazing sound!!!

This was an excellent find. As a beginning DJ, I initially bought a pair of Pioneer speakers which sounded great for the first 2 days, then had a horrible buzzing sound that could not be fixed. I returned those speakers immediately. I noticed that most of the videos on DJing featured these very monitors. I looked at the price of new ones and was turned off. Then I thought to check Ebay and found a pair at a great price. Best of all, they were offered by a local vendor and I was able to pick them up the next day. Then there's the sound... AMAZING! I now understand why I saw these monitors in all the DJ videos. Crisp and clear with deep bass response. No buzzing from these after weeks of use. I highly recommend these monitors.

Extremely happy with purchase

Hi, I was in the market for 5" nearfields with bass port on the front because they will be installed immediately next to a wall. I did a lot of online research prior to buying, and many/most fingers pointed at this model for this price range. I asked the B&H salesman what his opinion was of 5" nearfields, bass port on front panel for less than $200 each, and he agreed with me: the Rokit G3's. I have them installed properly: they are situated about an arm's length from both me and each other making an equilateral triangle, pointed just past the center point behind my ears, and the tweeters are at ear level. I have a small room, about 150 sq ft, and in this not-yet-acoustically-treated space they are a little bassy/boomy so i trimmed the bass. Overall, they sound amazing, and with source material that is centered it sounds like it is coming directly from the glass from the middle of my computer screen. In regards to bass: asking *any* 5" woofer to re-create deep sub-bass is asking too much, and I cannot wait until I buy the KRK 8" subwoofer to lighten the work load of the 5" woofer so that it can really shine.I also really like the auto power off, which is a nice feature that will increase the life of the monitor. The only thing I did not like, and this is just me, is the back-lit KRK logo - as I don't like any lights other than my computer monitor in front of me; black electrical tape blends in perfectly on the speaker and hides the light well for those interested. To sum it up, I give these a huge stamp of approval!

I ordered and provided payment for the KRK Rocket 5 G3 but was sent a Rocket 5 Classic model instead. I also read a review that this also happened to another individual. I would greatly appreciate being sent the Rocket 5 G3s that were advertised as being available, that I paid for. The 3 star rating is actually a bit inflated by not taking into account my frustration and having a sense that the seller probably knew what they were doing by substituting a different model and has no intention of correcting this mistake. All of the KRK models are good, but the integrity of the seller to provide whats advertised and paid for remains questionable.

I have two audio-video editing workstations equipped with Mackie HR624 monitors. One of those speakers failed recently, and I bought the Rokit 5's to fill in and continue working while the Mackie was being repaired. I thought I might even like them enough to leave them in place permanently. I like that these monitors are small, and the quality-to-price ratio can't be beat. They sound good in general and have remarkably deep and smooth bass response for such a small driver. They would probably be great with a matched subwoofer, but one isn't essential to get good sound out of these. The stereo image is tight and focused. They can play at painfully loud levels in my small workrooms without distortion. They sound good in general and have remarkably deep and smooth bass response for such a small driver. They would probably be great with a matched subwoofer, but one isn't essential to get good sound out of these. The stereo image is tight and focused. They can play at painfully loud levels in my small workrooms without distortion. After using them a few days, it did become apparent that there was a slightly rough quality in the lower midrange that was especially distracting on male voices. Also, their output is extremely directional -- you have to position the speakers and your head just right to get the best sound, and even listening to them from an off angle across the room sounds dull. I found listening to them to be tiring after a few hours -- probably because I had to be so careful to hold my head in the right place all the time. So I removed them from front-line service after about a week when I was able to get the original Mackie monitor repaired. But these will live on, for sure -- I purchased a case for them and will carry them as my preferred monitors when I go out to do field recording (mostly classical/jazz/acoustic folk music). Their small size, durable cabinet finish and good bass and volume capability will serve admirably there, although knowing that I'll probably finish my mixes on smoother monitors once I get home. At about a third the price of my slightly larger Mackies, they were still a good bargain. In general I don't go for flashy-looking equipment, but the yellow speaker cone and light-up logo are fun and distinctive. I do wish they could have combined the front panel light with a power switch so you don't have to reach around back to turn them on and off. I'll definitely include some of the higher-end KRK models when I'm shopping for monitors in the future.

Oustanding sound quality
22 April 2019

I bought a pair, white, retail, for my home music room. With a mixer and a POD HD500X, they are incredible. I can run everything through them all at once, the keyboards, electronic drum set, bass, microphones. No real need for a guitar amp at all with these, it's less expensive and more versatile. I would go with larger models for a bigger venue, but cranked up, these are enough to rattle the walls of my little studio. I have other amps, PAs and tube amps as well, but this is the most compact, versatile and cost effective. They are heavy for their size.

Perfect for the home studio!

This pair is connected to a Focusrite S. 2i2 audio interface (which is a very high quality sound card) and software output from Ableton Live, that's a massive & perfect set. This is really super bassy, I've been using M-Audio BX5a & AV 40(output from M-Track) for few months, which I thing are very good for home entertainment use, and DJing as well, but not for production, so I replaced them with these monitors. If you've never used them, they're very rich on Lows(bass) which is tight, ideal choice for reproduction, and mixing in a small studio or home, they are front ported, so you don't lose any bass response even without a soundproofed room. Hear the dirty bass, they're amazing. Very good delivery service. Pretty decent speakers.

These things sound far better in the low end than the g2's which I used to have, however, for mixing the low end is unreliable. I made it better with a trick I learned from Mike Senior to stuff the ports with rags or socks so the low frequencies aren't blurry and it really helped but the low end is still unreliable to mix with. My main issue with these is when you turn them on it takes anywhere from 5-30 seconds for them to produce volume. That's a very annoying delay. Also, rarely at times they cut out- either one or the other, sometimes both for no apparent reason... they are brand new! Also, the more I read about these and mix on them and listen to other monitors, the more I realize these are best for DJs who aren't trying to mix an actual pro album. The low end and even mids are no flat whatsoever. Honestly, they seem hyped to me but sound incredible just to use for entertainment like movies, Youtube, and listening to music.Soon I'll be selling these and getting Yamaha HS8's.Hope that helps.

Review of KRK Rokit RP5 G3 5 Active Monitor Speaker (Single Unit)
30 January 2019

Excellent build quality, I must admit I searched the internet and to find a go set of speakers on a limited budget and yes I paid more than I had initially planned to. However others may be up to half the price, but they don't seem to be lasting the distance. I was well pleased both with the deal on two units and their quality. I was surprised by how heavy they are. I have not used them much as yet, however the sound quality will not let you down, well pleased with them. They were well packaged, double boxed the two speakers I purchased were sent together as separate items.

Super clean sound
30 November 2017

I'm a filmmaker and edit my own work and got these for improved dialogue and music mixing. My very old AltecLansing speakers were getting muddy and I was missing details as they were coloring the sound too much. These are much clearer, although they were also quite a bit larger than I was expecting. I easily could have done with the next size down for my desktop editing suite but they were only $10 difference. In the end it wasn't worth the hassle of exchange so I kept them. They do produce a really nice quality of sound but are light on the low end. I plan on upgrading with the subwoofer at a later date.
